Spitting oil
OrlinEngh replied to Air Ready Auto's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I am with cowpuc have seen that many times when the pipes heat up after its gotten cold out. As for the gas I would guess a float that's a bit sticky and letting a little fuel by, Check the oil level. Make sure its not ending up in there. -
Have to say that I sure hope that 2018 isn't the crazy year that 2017 was. Sharon is doing well back to work and getting stronger each day, And I am getting better, getting back to getting some wood split up and some of the other chores that have gotten neglected, but then its been limited because someone had to open that darn door up so this other guy that we all have heard of is out sending snow with that sinister grin on his face:hihi: Looking forward to spring already, Getting the campground ready and get things in order for Maintenance day so we can take some time this summer and hop on the bike and go see some other Venture Rider friends that have been so nice to come and see us, We thought it would be nice and go see them. But first we need to decide witch way we are going and it may end up being a flip of the coin when we get to the end of the drive way. So if you see us pulling up to your house you will know if we took a right or a left at the end of the drive. Well now back to putting some more wood in the stove and head to work and dream of those warmer days and think about the flip of the coin. Orlin

Dan I hope that 2018 is a much better year than this one has been, And who knows 2017 isn't over yet and the best part of is coming. I know I am very Thank full this year, Sharon made it threw her surgery and is on the mend and doing good, And for the chance to be able to make the changes in my life that I have been wanting to do in a long time. Are you asking me about heat or what I am going to do? If its heat I heat with wood for now, if its work well what ever I can get in the door to turn a wrench at. Starting to get some detailing work, and looking to do some restoration work on cycles.

Sh After a few years of wanting to get this done, I got to get it done. What a difference it made now to get my walls done by spring is in the plan but I know how my plans work out at times. My body is telling me that 30 some years of running heavy equipment is about enough, time to get to working for myself and hope to have some more time to ride. Orlin

Looking at the calendar I see that the last weekend in June is taken so we are going to move it up a week, so as not to interfere with another get together. The dates will be June 21st to June 24th. We have camping here at our place, hope that we don't have the flooding next spring and the campground will be open, But if not we have plenty of room above the road by the house. For those of you that haven't been able to make it, we always try and have a great time and so far so good. We go out for a ride on Friday and Saturday and we do have some great roads to ride. There is a campfire each night, Saturday evening is a cookout and bonfire and we make sure that there is time made to tinker on the bikes and get plenty of time to relax and chat. I will put together a list of motels and other places to stay. Hope to see some new faces and get to make some new friends and get to see old friends. We are already looking forward to it. Orlin

So much of this going around, one of my sons has gotten caught up in the hard drugs and has been in and out of jail and cant seem to get a grip on things. It got to the point where it was time to walk away and let whats going to happen happen and hope for a good out come. Dan I hope and pray for your son to over come it and be the person he was. I know what I would like to do with the ones making and selling this stuff, But then I most likely wouldn't be here where I am at. Orlin

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers, I picked Sharon up from the hospital yesterday and she is back home and doing good. Her doctor and the surgeons are real happy with the speed of her recovery, Now to keep her from pushing to hard and take the time to heal. Thank you all again. Orlin and Sharon

I haven't had much time to post anything. They just wheeled Sharon in for her open heart surgery. Doing this from my phone so I am going to keep it short. Any thoughts and prayers are sure welcome. Orlin

We hit a very deep pot hole a couple of years ago, and had the same thing going on, it hit hard enough that it put flat spots on the steering head bearings. Not sure if hitting the hole caused it or not but I also had to replace the front wheel bearings with a 1,000 miles,

Prayers headed up, have been down a much similar path. Hope you and your family come out of this all okay.

This looks to be a little dry and wore
OrlinEngh replied to OrlinEngh's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes I did take the snap ring off and greased it. I also pulled the drive shaft and found that it had been a long time since it had been greased. From what I understand that the shop that did the tire changes didn't bother using grease. I take my cycles apart every winter and clean and grease. -

The splines are supposed to be flat and square, this one is shot, after looking more at the gear on the final drive I can see a lot of ware on there, so I replaced the final drive and hub from a different one. It turns much smoother and a lot quieter. I did also find that the keeper for the needle bearings wasn't holding them in place. Orlin -
This was in a 07 Venture it had a growl to it when I pulled in the clutch going down the road looks to me its been a long time since any grease had been out on this, its as I took it out, I didn't wipe it down. The bearing still was smooth and had grease and the splines on the final drive looked to be in good shape, I put in a hub that I had here and it seemed to fit good and no play, Orlin
