I guess this is not an apples to apples comparison since I have a RSTD, but I have owned a GL1500 (90) and a GL1200(85).
I really did enjoy both of those bikes but I tend to agree with most folks here that the riding position is MUCH better on the RSTD.
The RSTD is much smoother in the parking lot and stop lights, both Gold wings were abrupt in 1st gear.
I felt like the GW was more nimble once under way, but I'm not into dragging pegs/boards on every corner. The RSTD felt very comfortable to me right way.
My wife wants a trunk on the RSTD (I know why didn't I buy a RSV) and we both agree that the looks are much better, not just a little.
So I guess my answer would be no, but really if someone offer me a straight up deal for my RSTD for a GL1800 then I would be a fool if I did not take it.
Ride the GW a while, and then trade it for the next generation Venture.
