  1. I'm thinking something along the lines of this. This is not exactly what it will look like but maybe to give everyone an idea.
  2. The cool thing is that most of all the needed sensors are already on the bike so my plan is to interface with the monitoring clip that stock panel connects to in order to read the data from all the sensors. Unfortunately I'm no good with fabricating so I doubt it will look pretty ... any volunteers for the fabricating part? lol At the moment for just the electronics, I'm ball parking the cost around $250-300... Not too bad considering the costs I've seen to get a mint condition USED panel if you need to replace the one you have. Jason
  3. This is true, but I feel it is no more true than people resetting their trip while driving, switching between compass and temp and mileage, GPS programming, etc... whether touchscreen or buttons the possibility is already there and in use in 90% of vehicles. While this is not exactly the case with motorcycles, it is becoming more so with the touring bikes and their built in gps, stereos, etc... I guess my opinion is that good riders will continue to use good judgement while poor riders will continue to use poor judgement - regardless of the devices available. You do make a good point though. Jason
  4. Yeah. I'll probably use either a full arduino or just atmega328 chip on a custom board. It depends more on the size of the code though. May have to go with a larger chip with more memory.
  5. Just wanted to get some opinions, feedback and/or comments here on this idea/project. I'm putting together a 4.8" TFT Touchscreen instrument cluster for my 1983 Venture Royale Deluxe ... I want to replace the current dash/cluster with the touchscreen display that will show the following: Battery Voltage Fuel Guage with MPG reading Speed / RPMs Odometer / Tripometer Compass / GPS Turn Signals / hazards (when on) Outdoor and Engine Temp Clock with alarm Neutral Indicator (maybe indicator to show which gear as well) Side Stand / Kill Switch Indicator Burned out headlight and HI / LO tail, brake light failure indicator High beam indicator. Possibly Oil level indicator. (any additions or changes please comment and let me know) I'm also thinking that there could be a few user selectable display variations (themes). I have the electronics / programming know how to do this and I am planning on doing this for myself either way, but was wondering if others would be interested in this as well? Thanks, Jason
  6. Though it would be a long ride for quite a few... i wonder what it would take to get a majority of the PGR and any other like minded individuals to ALL go and protest for a weekend at THEIR church. ALL at one time. I know smaller groups have done it in the past but I think a formidable gathering protesting them could hopefully be enough that it would help enlist the everyday normal person to take a stand in the future when they see this type of activity. The problem with most people is that unless it personally effects them, they tend to not get involved (regardless of how they feel about it). I don't disagree with the Supreme Courts ruling at all, I believe our 1st amendment (as well as the rest of the amendments) should be vigilantly protected. I however also believe that it is up to society to balance that extremists out and solve these problems in like manner. I am from MN and would be more than willing to ride down there and spend a weekend holding a sign voicing MY opinion of them. If others are interested and/or know of more people would be willing to commit to the same, lets make this happen. All that is needed for evil to exist and conquer is for good people to stand back and do nothing.
  7. So... 1083.1 miles, 3 states (including MN), sunburn, windburn, 2 campsites, 2 hotels and my beautiful woman pressed against me the whole way... AWESOME! Rolled in at home about 2:30 am sunday morning and remembered how much I love our bed. Sorry for the lack of updates on the last 2 days ... not much reception on friday and road about 7 hours on saturday (last 2 hours after stopping for a bbq with friends in Eau Claire). All and all we had a great time and the bike handled it great. I'm definitely very happy that I traded my truck for this bike ... on a side note ... forgot to check helmet laws so after stopping for gas in Michigan about 15 miles into the state, we realized EVERYONE was wearing helmets ... 100+ degrees and a full face helmet was really rough not being used to wearing one. Thanks for the tips and help, you guys helped make our trip a success and wonderful experience ... BTW if you are ever rolling through Marathon WI, stop at Kurt -n- jo's eats-n-treats ... tiny little restaurant but they have great hand scooped icecream, and their burgers and slaw are the best
  8. Day 2. Another couple hundred miles and made it to Dulut last night. Going to be heading out to Wisconsin soon. Took hwy 2 from near bemidji to Duluth. 60 MPH road, beautiful country.
  9. *side note* choosing not to bring some type of pad to sleep on so we could save room... bad Bad BAD idea! Walmart here we come! Off to Itasca state park today to walk across the Mississippi then off to Duluth.
  10. Day 1 ... 209 miles done. We arrived safely in park rapids, MN and set up camp. Heading out tomorrow for Duluth, MN.
  11. Leaving in 2 hours for our trip ... decided to put it off until today so our rain gear could get here and I had to meet with a client yesterday ... SOOO EXCITED!
  12. pretty much finalized out route ... thanks for the info everyone Check out the route here! http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=blaine,+mn&daddr=19331+Eagle+Pointe+Trail,+Park+Rapids,+MN+56470+to:Duluth,+MN+to:46.22876,-91.50993+to:46.07382,-91.29182+to:46.19194,+-90.86+to:saxon+falls,+mi+to:gorge+falls,+mi+to:Watersmeet,+MI+to:Agate+Falls+State+Park,+MI+to:Bond+Falls,+MI+to:2006+Stewart+Avenue,+Wausau,+Wisconsin+54401+to:817+Broadview+Blvd,+54703+to:Blaine,+MN&hl=en&ll=45.981695,-92.136841&spn=2.710183,7.13562&sll=45.954969,-91.977539&sspn=2.711491,7.13562&geocode=FV8ZsQId-1hx-ikbKX3PGySzUjFPJNaCmMlEVw%3BFdtOzAId215V-iktnVV2rbi3UjHs_mEIpZXfUw%3BFXDoyQIde6iC-in_Ny54flKuUjFyDFjrdr_9kA%3BFRhlwQIdVquL-iknZOIJ1aCuUjGa5W7r8Uacdg%3BFdwHvwIdVP-O-ilTo4HvswesUjHNJw4KcnbSZw%3BFUTVwAIdIJaV-g%3BFXoVxgId2e2c-in5xkQ9a76pUjGmth6vcQ42hA%3BFWCsxwIdbfCh-imb-1FqpdmpUjF3GHvsk_-FuA%3BFU79wQIdwkCv-imfh5Ka4INWTTFr_nhPyoBrSQ%3BFUI7xQId6I2w-iEu7iwTWxtvDw%3BFYMkxAIdifCv-ildTgE7MpFWTTEXJJ1FqPY91A%3BFUUIrgId1d6n-ikld5CKACEAiDG8Xc9xdo5Ciw%3BFblwqwIdRiuL-im1ymIeR5b4hzEMeRAttpNuPQ%3BFV8ZsQId-1hx-ikbKX3PGySzUjFPJNaCmMlEVw&mra=ls&via=3,4&z=8 Would love to maybe meet some of you along the journey if anyone is up for it let me know.
  13. thanks for the campground list ... very helpful ... we decided to leave on monday after I get paid our last payment from one of our clients ... I'll update you all on our trip if I can. Added a cigarette lighter to the bike so we can charge our phones and use our gps and a mount for it on the tank cover ...
  14. ok ... here is our tentative route If any of you are along the way and wanna meet up for some coffee or at our campsite to share some stories, let me know where you are and what your thoughts are. We do need some info on campsites, haven't found any yet (just starting to look) we are heading to St. Peter, MN first and staying the night with friends, the to Eau Claire, WI on saturday and staying the night there with some friends... then a drive all the way out to Michigan and would like to camp at or by our first destination there (Bond Falls, MI) - Not opposed to stopping for the night a little short of that either Any suggestions or advice are welcomed as always.

  16. yep ... swapped out the rear res with the one from my parts bike ... it was broken and (rubber epoxied and hose clamped !?!?) ... see that original thread for pics of what I found. Thanks for asking though
  17. My fiancee and I are taking 10 days starting this coming Friday (June 24) and going to head out on the bike with some camping gear and see where the road takes us. We are leaving from Mpls, MN ... any suggestions or advice are welcomed... Thanks in advance for you advice and suggestions. We will keep you all updated on our journey J
  18. definitely would not argue with someone with a carbtune gauge thing whose willing to show me how to do it lol ... Just called the local shop/dealer and they want $115.95 for one lol ... Thanks guys I appreciate all your help ... after i get them sync'd and tuned i'll let you know how it turns out. Probably gonna have to buy one next week after I get paid. Gonna check online for a cheaper one.
  19. @squidley - appreciate it! ... what is the easiest way to do a carbsync on these? do you gotta tear it down? is there a thread somewhere on it? i searched and got a bunch of threads ... looking through them i didn't find what i was looking for though lol
  20. oh yeah ... and it's a subtle backfire ... (almost sounds like a quiet missfire) my fiancee couldn't really notice it when i was trying to get her to hear it ... i guess i just notice it because i know what it was like before lol
  21. ... it's afterburn through the exhaust. I changed the plugs because i just got the bike and didn't know when it was last done. I did add half a can of seafoam to the tank as well (halfway through that tank when I changed the plugs. Two of the old plugs were a little dirty, nothing that would give me much concern though... can't think of anything else i've changed (except the rear brake reservoir lol).
