LED running lights?
MAINEAC replied to Schlepporello's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I posted it in post # 11... Here it is again... http://www.bigrigchromeshop.com/Merc...RCS/CTGY/MCLSP -
Bill everytime I post to your threads you think I'm looking for an argument.. I thought this was a disscusion Forum where people exchange views and opinions.. I guess I mis-read your post by thinking you were insinuating the rider was wearing a skid lid... But I bet I'm not the only one who connected the dots. BTW I'm not Anti Helmet... I'm against the government telling me I have to wear one... With your accident I can see why you wear a helmet... I'm just not sure why you care if I wear one or not... Alot of these "weekend warrior" accidents could be avoided with some proper training... No helmets in the world can save some of these bad riders. For the record... I've got over 2 million miles on 22 - 2 wheels and everything in between and have owned a few Harleys too.. Not sure what this has to do with the discussion but you brought up the History... So please don't try to dismiss me like I'm some kind of greenhorn..

From the KY Post refering to motorcycle fatalities in KY so far in 2008: http://www.kypost.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=215690d4-7340-4c27-b2c9-28dfb568e75d Don't let facts get in the way of a good story... eh Eddy

O&C maybe in your riding circle it's 80 - 90% no helmet or at least it seems that way.. But I think most Helmet Law Free states report around 50% Helmet use.. I think it's mostly educated guessing as some riders wear them sometimes... Maybe they go by accident reports... I'm not sure.

Question on Higher Output Stator
MAINEAC replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hope you're right Peg cuz I gotta lotta crap to plug in... -
I'm sure Bill will make his point clear when he sees my post... No doubt in my mind... thanks for trying to help out Scott and I understand your point.. I was wondering if he had 1st hand knowlege of this particular accident of if he was speculating... I know the non-motorcycling public likes to divulge in speculation but don't expect it from our brethen.

Squid, Electrosport doesn't show a stator for a RSV only a regulator.
-
Are we assuming he was wearing a skid lid because he was riding a Harley or because he died? Because some Harley riders wear DOT approved helmets... Not really sure how a helmet gets a DOT approval because the DOT does NOT test helmets... People die on motorcycles every day wearing DOT approved helmets... BTW Missouri is one of most dangerous places in the U.S. to ride a motorcycle, according to a published report and they have a mandatory helmet law for all riders.

Actually I had already downloaded and printed it before I saw your post... I wanted to make sure the stator was gone before I bought one.. I did some research beforehand... thanks for the post though... The Ohm test was a little iffy... it was the same w to w and w to ground... I got 36 Volts out of 2 w to w and only 8 out of the other... that was wide open...

how clean plastic wrap of chrome?
MAINEAC replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Good call Drag... M.E.K. ought to do it... we used to clean the valves on the stainless steel tankers I used to haul... M.E.K. would eat through your rubber gloves and make them sticky... Methyl Ethyl Ketone aka PVC pipe cleaner at your local Home Depot. -
I need to replace my stator at 68,000 miles and was wondering if this is normal or what the average mileage was for a stator replacement.. If you've replaced your stator please respond with your mileage.

Question on Higher Output Stator
MAINEAC replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Don... I was trying to verify the "high output" stator output... when I looked the other day it said 25% increase (on buckeye's site) and I looked today and it says 55A max output... maybe Rick changed it in response to this thread... or maybe I'm losing my mind... I'm guessing it's probably rated 45 - 50 Amps... 45 is a 50% increase not the 25 previously stated... that was my reason for concern. -
Question on Higher Output Stator
MAINEAC replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Goose I'm thinking he's right, I get voltage drop as soon as I put her in gear, I've since disconnected the carb heaters. -
Hey LA if you end up headin Down East I gotta spare room with your name on it... Here's the coordinates if you can figure out how to do it... 44.490517, -69.099680 Ride safe whatever way you end up

Question on Higher Output Stator

Can anyone answer Jerry's question?? I'd like to know myself... Maybe someone with the upgraded stator could provide test results. -
how clean plastic wrap of chrome?
MAINEAC replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
No stick to reading the original post... I got a good deal on ebay for chrome passing lamp shields. It is new old-stock so the plastic wrap ended up stuck to the metal. I tried paint stripper, heat from hair dryer & soaking in laquer thinner to no avail. Anyone have a method that might work? -
trailer hitches&noise ?
MAINEAC replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I bought my hitch off of a member here who makes them... You won't find a better deal anywhere.. http://www.venturedad.com/RSV%20hitch.htm About the rattle check your trunk and mounts... all the bolts to your fender struts and those passenger grab rails... the rear grab rail bolts kept coming loose on mine... I finally took them off. -
Correct Avon Rear Tire???
MAINEAC replied to bugfish69's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yeah what Goose said... I'm guessing but I noticed my buddy's older Boss Hoss has the same tire sizes as the RSV and I think the heavier load rated tire may have been made for that... But it works on the RSV... BTW I only got 7500 miles out of the heavier rated tire.. I'm not gonna find out what the 74 rated tire will do. -
Not Charging.. Need some help
MAINEAC replied to MAINEAC's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
DOH!! I was testing the male part of the plug... when I started tracing it I realized it went somewhere behind the fuse box... Not sure how to read this mickey mouse volt meter... My kid has my digital... I'm using the one with a needle.. Anyways near as I can tell I'm getting 20 volts from 2 of the combo w to w wires and the 3rds like 15... Ohm test goes off the chart no matter what setting I select and beeps on everyone. I printed the guide and used that... according to that my stator's bad... Ruff I did the clean and grease thing a while ago and also replaced the regulator with no change in charging status... I guess I gotta go shopping... thanks all for your help. -
Not Charging.. Need some help
MAINEAC replied to MAINEAC's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Squid for the quick response... I don't think it's the battery and I'm not getting anything over the 12.4 - 12.8 at the battery regardless of the Revs... It's just running off the battery with no voltage going back... My battery may be bad now from discharging it so many times... I've been riding it like this for a while... just short jaunts with jumper cables in my saddlebag... I haven't had time to deal with it... I'm working on it today and it's gonna be about 90 here .. Neil gave me some things to try ... goin to do that now.. Thanx again guys -
I pulled my radiator overflow tank and pulled the 3 white wire connection apart... I ohmed it out to each other... nothing... I started the bike had black wire to neg side of batery and red probe to all 3 wires (1 at a time) and I got no Voltage... Am I doing something wrong? or did my stator wires some how become disconnected? Does the white plug have to be connected to produce voltage? I'm thinking the Dealer did something to this when I had my Shock Replaced, Cruise & Fuel gauge fixed under warranty. Of course my warranty is run out now and the work was done in March and I haven't done any long trips and have been putting on a tender every night... I kinda knew something was up a while ago when a few times I got a weak crank. Any suggestions??

Pull the tire and use one of these... Installed properly it will last the life of the tire... http://www.i-car.com/graphics/about_icar/current_events/advantage/2003/advantage_online_0407/full_size/fig_5.jpg
