Mine was as bad as that when I bought it without all the accessories that ones got... That guy spent some money on that bike... Chrome wheels, diamond cut jugs, Yammie chrome.. Can't really tell from the pictures if anythings tweaked... but if the fork and frame is straight the rest of the stuff is bolt on and repairable. If it runs and the price is right I would do it. how many miles?
-
I ran 45 lbs of air and during my routine checks of the tires it never went below 42 lbs.. I'm glad they're working out for you.. I won't be buying them again.

Histry Shmistry... I'm just trying to help out you antique collectors... Okay near as I can tell is 175/75-16 is the closest size that anyone actually still makes and it's claimed to be 1.4" wider... but that's probably not the actual width when you squeeze it on a 4" rim.. Here's a link to the calculator I used... It doesn't copy and paste too good... pwobably javascwipt http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos

I actually like the steamroller tire up front... I think that's all the Stratoliner needs to look cool and maybe a taildragger front frnder... All they need now is some "Cross Bones" boots with Stainless steel inserts in the heel in case you gotta stop fast... Fred Flintstone brakes... that's really retro.

If you had a problem with "they act like they're on ice" say it...Instead of 3 paragraphs that I thought were written to invalidate my opinion because I'm in the minority... I'm a straight shooter and apreciate that quality in others... You've seen my other posts on this and I think I've prefaced them a time a two with "I'm in the minority here"... As far as hearing both sides... lots have chimed in with how great they are...Which I knew would happen... How did that turn into my job if I think otherwise? Maybe I feel I have to use stronger language because I am the minority with this opinion.. Yeah strong words.. The guy already bought the tires... he's gonna use them... If they are like my Avons he's gonna need to treat them like he's on ice... Cuz that's what mine felt like to me... I don't scare easy but my Avons on wet roads are scary... I wouldn't use my back brake unless I had to cuz it would lock up way too easy. For the record ther's more than just me and a couple of other guys that aren't in love with Avons... I'm on several forums and have voiced my opinion and people are starting to come out with the same opinion... Your post didn't help that cause along any here tho...

Next year's the 100th anniversary of the Harley V-Twin engine... I expecting special editions up the wazoo... You know what I don't understand is the Cross Bones... This thing looks like they had some extra parts laying around and wanted to get rid of them... Let's seee Nightrain Softail frame and engine ok... Scratched up Springer front ends ok we'll powdercoat em and throw em on... we'll make it sound cool... hey what about these left over FLH spoke wheels we could use them... sure why not... how bout these Sportster mini-apes... yeah paint them black too The worst part is they put a single piston caliper on the single disk front and a 2 piston caliper on the back... And they're probably flying out the door. http://z.about.com/d/motorcycles/1/7/b/F/-/-/08_FLSTSB_07.jpg

If it was over 13 mph studies have shown it probably didn't matter helmet or not at least in that type of injury.. it helps with Road Rash but so does a leather aviator cap... In some cases the extra weight of a helmet on your head causes you head to hit the ground harder than it would have bare headed and increases your chances of spinal cord injury... Don asked us to cool it on this topic... This is my final post to this thread... But if anyone's interested in the reasons not to wear a helmet go here: http://usff.com/hldl/frames/50state.html Some interesting reading..

Maybe I got a pair of lemons... My Bro orders them from Parts Unlimited... He charges me list but that includes installation... Hey I mean it when I said I hope you have better luck than me... I was just letting you know about my experience.. For the record... Just in case anyones thinking it ... I have never done a smokeshow or burnout with my RSV... but I probably do ride a little more aggressive than most riders here... But I also get more mileage out of brakes than most... go figure

I'm really don't want to go there right now... But if you want good manners read Emily Post... I just try to keep it honest..

PJ we all know what your saying is true and all the variances that affect tire wear ... but that's not the issue here now... Goose doesn't like the way I post my opinion... I really don't see how it's any different from some of the PRO Avon posts in this thread... except it's contrary.. And if there is anyone out here not impressed with Avons like myself they're not going to post it now... Not after MAINEAC the nay sayer get's taken to task by a Moderator in the middle of a thread.... That's what I'm talking about...

I think since I've been posting "my Opinion" the "smallest of minorities" is growing daily... Some people are not as forward as me and might be intimidated and don't want to rock the boat.... perhaps we haven't seen or heard from more people because of the overwelming love affair with these tires... Maybe in fact that love affair has skewed the popularity of these tires.. Did you ever consider that? The fact is I got 7500 miles out of a tire that some people are claiming to get 20,000 + out of... Yeah I'm a little ticked off paying 30% more for these than D404s and performing worse.. Maybe this comes across in my post. Not sure about the "cold hard facts" issue you have with my posts... People are asking for opinions and I give mine... just because it doesn't happen to agree with yours doesn't mean it's somehow less valid than yours.. Besides if I'm the lone voice in the wilderness like you seem to think why does it bother you? People will dismiss me as nutjob and move on. Goose I've met you and you seem like a nice guy and I don't want to get in a p--ing match with you... BUT your attempt to silence the minority is way out of line.. Just my opinion.
-
I bought the hype and 7500 miles later the rear's pooched and there ain't much left in the front... Hope you have better luck than me... And be careful on wet roads... they act like they're on ice.
-
Hey Fireman that's only like a 900 mile trip... That's a touring bike you got there... That's doable in 1 day... I've done 2000 miles in 2 days before on my RSV... If you just want to run daylight hours you should be home for supper on the 2nd day.. good luck with your ride..

The six safest states in which to ride, based on the numbers of fatalities per 10,000 registrations, are Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Wyoming. None of these states has an adult helmet law. Looking at fatality rates (number of rider fatalities per 100 accidents), the six safest states are Colorado, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Iowa, Wyoming, and Minnesota. Again, these states do not require adult helmet use.

LED running lights?
MAINEAC replied to Schlepporello's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Those are made for License Plates... But they also replace the Side cover bolts on a RSV and the Ignition cover bolts on a RSV. -
Well said David... I had that link in my 1st post until I saw it happened 2 weeks ago and I edited it out.... MO has a helmet law and if the rider wasn't wearing one I'm sure it would have been reported..

Good one Bill... LOL... Comparing wearing a skid lid with 1st Degree Murder.. Are you suggesting that not agreeing with our Government and all it's laws is Anti Government or Anti-American??? Well my favorite forefather disagrees.... The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. - Thomas Jefferson

"Some HD loyaliststs"??? Hey I had a 650 BSA until I bought a new Harley in 77 and knew plenty of guys who rode British & Jap bikes and those were the same guys that couldn't afford a Harley... But they all wanted them.. All the 1% Patch Holders (HAs were the Dominant Club here then) were "American Iron Only" in New England... I'm assuming that's who you're refering to as "Bad Ass Bikers" .. Support and AMA clubs could ride anything but they weren't the Hardcore Bikers.. As far as the old chopper rags... The only Chopper rag that counted was Easyriders (I think I still gotta couple of milk crates full of them somewhere) and that was All American... They came out with Iron Horse for the Metric Riders of the time.. Maybe it was different here in New England... maybe our idea of what a Bad Ass Biker is is different...

I thought it was all the same thing...Good catch Don... . I was wrong.... The link I posted is a free club... this one's gonna cost ya: Indianapolis Star Chapter #144
