I think I'll be sticking with the good ol Yuasa Acid batteries for a while longer... Last one lasted 4 years and was working when I pulled it but I was heading out on a 7000 mile trip and installed a new one as cheap insurance. I remember back when I was a kid changing MC batteries every year... If you got 2 years outta one is was a cocker...

I'd suggest running up I-78 to Rte - 33 up to Stroudsburg and jump on 209... Truckers used to call it the Ho Chi Mihn Trail but then they closed it to Trucks... It runs alongside the Delaware Water Gap and right through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area... It's a pretty nice ride and it dumps you out on I-84 at the PA, NY, and NJ state lines... where you can take 17 up or go I-84E to I-87 the New York Thruway... depends on how much time you got... But the ho chi mihn will only take maybe 1/2 hour more than the interstates... Not including stops.. Click here for map

hey Don I hope you can it worked out... Who handled the group buy? Maybe he could help out... I thought he had some kind of inside connection... Was it Condor?

Passing lights and turn signals 2002 Venture
MAINEAC replied to RossKean's topic in General Tech Talk
Ross forget the dealer... if you already have the stock passing lamps you can change to a H-3 type light... I bought some aftermarket Adjure wannabe tri-bar lights for $60 on ebay and it included the H-3 bulbs... My bulbs were 55W and all the ones in local parts stores are 55... I do know 35W are available I couldn't find them locally.. http://i20.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/a6/b1/4f30_1.JPG http://pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/s.gif http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Accessories_Motorcycle-Parts-Accessories__Tri-bar-4-5-black-dot-halogen-spot-passing-lights_W0QQitemZ220279090134QQddnZPartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQadnZMotorcycleQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQddiZ2811QQadiZ2863QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item220279090134&_trkparms=72%3A543%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 -
Passing Lamps and Popped Fuses
MAINEAC replied to Dave77459's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Using your water analogy with the water being voltage... The Pump is the Battery... The Relay is a valve that you can open and close to allow the water to run or not... The toggle switch is the valve's handle.. So you turn the handle (Toggle switch) which opens the valve (relay) and allows the water through voilla! Lights So run a big pipe (heavy wire) from your battery to the lights... Cut the pipe where you want to install the valve and using fittings install the valve... etc. I think you get it now..- 19 replies

Well it's like this jt... Different Strokes for different folks... you posted a link to some blind guy plucking on a guitar and I couldn't make it all the way through that thing but I was glued to the TV last night watching the Red Sox beat the Rays... I played sports when I was younger then coached sports and now I watch sports... The thing I don't get is Nascar but I don't put people down for watching it.

Yes Guys when shopping for an mp3 player to use on your bike you want a FLASH DRIVE not a Hard Drive
-
Moose you already made 2 mistakes... You went to a Dealer for a paint job... Bike dealers aren't like car dealers.. there's no Body Shop out back... They send it out and then pad the bill so you pay more than if you found your own painter. You decide to paint your bike in June... That's a winter job when the bike's down anyways. Don't make a 3rd mistake by threatening and all this other stuff... Find out who and where the painter is and go there and find out where your parts are... If they're missing or damaged go back to the dealer and have him order your replacement parts on his dime.. If he won't do that then you get a lawyer... Cooler heads will prevail

If they can't beat the Faiders Gene it's time to jump off the Band Wagon...

If anyone has an insurance policy that doesn't cover an accident in a group ride It's time to find another insurance company... Not sure how they could not cover you... It doesn't sound legal..

According to that news article our little Toy Run here in Maine is the largest in the country... I've never seen an accident during this run and we are escorted by the police and no cars are allowed in the 16,000 bike 10 mile ride... I guess you have to see it to appreciate it... I think it's pretty cool and it's for a good cause... We have a lot of poor people here in Mane and the Salvation Army distributes the toys out to needy families for Christmas.. I say go for it Shlep... give it a try... Don't let these guys rain on your parade... Just keep an eye on anyone riding around you and if you get uncomfortable with some yahoo near you just pull off and either get back in line or follow behind... Usually the Tailgunner will want you in front of him as that's his job to pull over with breakdowns.. Tell the Road Captain you're a newby and they'll keep an eye on you and answer any questions.. Don't take my word on it go here and do some homework: http://www.ama-cycle.org/roadride/groupRide.asp Have Fun Man

I guess that depends on where you live or who's setting them up... I've been on Poker Runs that were alot of fun and we never went near a barroom and met some pretty good people.. Please don't condemn all Poker Runs... There are good ones out there and they don't all involve group rides you can ride at your own pace... you just meet up at 5- 6 locations and get cards ... and the best hand wins exciting prizes... like a flashlight

Passing Lamps and Popped Fuses
MAINEAC replied to Dave77459's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I wired my toggle switch to the parking lamps cuz I wanna see the sides of the road on Hi & Lo Beam... Maine is the most forested state in the country at 89% forest and I need all the help I can get dodging crittahs.. I'm with Goose and Larry the Factory Install is Mickey Mouse... I'm running V-Star type lights with H-3 Bulbs and they put out 55W each... If I grab power from the Low Beam circuit I'm tripling the Factory load for that circuit.. Like Larry said it's really not that hard to do properly.. Basically you want to run a heavy fused wire off your battery + side to the relay and then from the relay to your lights... Now you tap into either the parking lamps or LB circuit if you want to be 100% legal with a lighter wire to the toggle then from the toggle to the relay... Then Ground the toggle switch and the relay and you're done... Now your borrowed power with the toggle switch is only turning the relay off and on and not powering the lights themselves... The power to the lights is coming directly from the battery... I also used a lighted toggle switch that lights up when the passing lamps are being used.. Good luck and if you're gonna tackle this lemme know and I'll give you more detailed instructions... I just tried to put out there in plain english so you can understand the reason to use a relay.- 19 replies

I'm going on a toy run next week... Last year I bought a $15.00 Tonka Truck and strapped it on my luggage rack. 16,000 expected at bikers' toy run The ride from the Augusta Civic Center to the Windsor Fairgrounds is set for Sunday. By BETH QUIMBY Staff Writer September 4, 2007 More than 16,000 motorcyclists are expected to ride from the Augusta Civic Center at 1 p.m. Sunday for the 26th United Bikers of Maine toy run. Bikers from all over New England will start gathering at the civic center at 11 a.m. before riding off to the Windsor Fairgrounds carrying toys and donations for children. Last year, the group donated 8,000 toys that were distributed by the Salvation Army to children around the state at Christmas. "To me the toy run is the crown jewel of United Bikers of Maine," said Jackie Hanscom of Ellsworth, who has participated in the event since 2000. It is the biggest non-company sponsored toy run in the country, said Richard Dodge, head of public relations for the bike group. He said it will take several hours for the bikers to make the roughly 10-mile trip from the civic center to the fairgrounds. The parade route is normally lined with hundreds of well- wishers, Dodge said. The group will leave the civic center and turn left to Interstate 95, leave the highway at Exit 113 and travel Route 3 and then Route 32 to the fairgrounds. "We don't go very fast," Dodge said. The fairgrounds will feature vendors and lots of talk about bikes, Dodge said. Politicians often show up to deliver some of the speeches. Both former Gov. Angus King and Gov. John Baldacci have ridden motorcycles in the toy run. Normally, stuffed animals dominate the donations, so this year the group is urging participants also to bring gifts appropriate for older children and teenagers, such as clothes, hand-held computer games and music. More information about the event is available online at http://www.ubm-usa.org or by calling (888) 229-9826. Thinking outside the box here... Maybe these could be mounted to the saddlebag guards and get the boards down lower for your Tigress and could probably be used while retaining the stock boards for a change of pace and both would fold up when the Tigress is triking... Just throwing it out there... http://www.chromeworld.com/images/product/large/lg_127.jpg

What about WD-40 on a stock windshield... I had windshield bags velcroed on and now I need to remove the sticky residue... It says not to use solvents which WD-40 is but I gotta get the goop off. -
Hey Juggler sorry to get your thread offtrack... But just to clear things up... You bought the floorboards for $179 and the mounts for like another $79 and they aren't any better than the stock? They do say they have several settings... I'm guessing you tried them all... I can't see how they could go much more forward than stock... My calves hit the stockers once in a while now... If they were more forward I'd be whacking them all the time... It sounds like you need them lower... They sure look like they could go lower in the pics... If they don't you should be entitled to your money back.. Good luck man

Passing Lamps and Popped Fuses
MAINEAC replied to Dave77459's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Dave from what I've heard from others who had their passing lamps installed at a dealer... They most likely just tapped the low beam headlight circuit and now it's overloading your HL circuit and possibly your toggle switch and they probably didn't use a relay and that's what you want to do... Do your passing lamps go out with the high beam? You might end up cooking the toggle switch or the connectors to it... Don't ask how I know this... I wired mine up wrong and had the feed to the lights coming off the toggle switch with a smaller gauge wire powering the toggle and the connector corroded off.. I'm thinking this may have burnt out my stator at 68k miles.. Basically the way you want to wire it so that the toggle switch is only turning the relay off and on (Not the Lights) The relay will power the lights... And the toggle should only work with the key in the on position... Lemme know if you want more info on how to wire them up properly... It's really not that hard... Not sure what I was thinking when I wired up mine the first time because I haven't got any new knowledge since then... I guess I just goofed.- 19 replies
