  2. You seem like you know what you're talking about but I think you have this backwards... PAR36 SHMAR 36... We're talking Sealed Beams right? With all the aftermarket bezels out there I think the H-3 type lights probably have 4 to 5 times more options than the sealed beams... Just guessin but I think I'm right...
  3. Yes you can set them for how much brake and when to come on using the preset on the controller... But when the brakes are applied they are on... Maybe they've improved since I used one but they were either on or off with no in between...
  4. I've used electric trailer brakes before with a 3/4 ton Dodge and a 30' trailer and they worked pretty good when they were adjusted right... That being said I wouldn't use them on my bike... Electric brakes are either off or on with no in between... You can't modulate the pressure like you can with hydraulic brakes (other than the preset adjustment on the controller)... Hey it's just me but I don't want those trailer brakes locking up on me which they probably will from time to time... My advice... Put the trailer on with a pretty good load and try it out with no brakes... Include some evasive manuvers as you get more comfortable... I think you'll find you don't need the brakes... If you're really set on doing the brakes go here to do some research.... Motorcycle Trailer Towing on Delphi... Good luck
  5. Those in the pics I posted aren't mine but some pics I got off google to make the point... I don't know what the specs on mine are other than I'm running the 55W H-3 bulbs and they do light up the side of the road real nice and give me a fighting chance with Moose and Deer.. Mine work on Hi and Lo Beam and also make me more noticeable in the daytime as well.. Maine is the most heavily forested state in the country at 89% forest and we have all kinds of Crittahs in them woods.... The passing lamps were the best upgrade I've done to my RSV along with my PIAA headlight bulb..
  6. If it was my Daughter I'd be looking at the Shadows or the Virago... The Honda VLX 600 Shadow is 100 lbs less and 2" lower seat than the V-Star or C-50... The 750 Virago is closer in weight to the V & C but rides smaller with skinnier tires... The 535 Virago is a light weight option as well as a Kawi Vulcan 500... Despite the Vulcan name it's not a V-Twin but a parellel twin with plenty of power for a 500 but probably not that great for a lot of highway miles as it's very light and small... The V-Star and C-50 are nice bikes but to put it in perspective are heavier and bigger than my 3rd street bike (77 Sporster XLCH) and I'm 6'3" 220 at the time... I would err on the side of caution if it was my little girl and let her move up gradually... All these bikes can be bought pretty cheap... Good luck with whatever you pick up...
  7. Yamaha to close motorcycle production lines for 10 days January 19th, 2009 Responding to slumping sales Yamaha is following the road taken by several other manufacturers and cutting back on its motorcycle production and temporarily shutting some facilities. Japan's Yamaha Motor Co Ltd made the announcement on Friday, confirming it would cut output by halting production at 11 facilities amid the global economic slump. Yamaha said in a release it would stop production for seven to 10 days in February and March at facilities making motorcycles, recreational vehicles, marine sports vehicles, industrial robots and parts. 8. I guess we're resurecting an old post... Lemme see if I can clear it up for you... If you have the stock RSV passing lamps you most likely have a "sealed beam" unit where the Bezel and bulb are a unit like these... http://www.jcl-tech.dk/images/Nuffieldpics/4.0forlygte.jpg I now have an aftermarket Adjure wannabe tri-bar lights that use a H-3 bulb that is separate from the bezel... Like these... http://www.vtwinshop.co.uk/acatalog/2149-metric.jpg These bezels use a replacable H-3 bulb like this... http://www.fishingessentials.co.nz/images/AG100.jpg

I know Johnny did some pretty good R&R back in the day but I think his Blues Guitar work is right up there with Stevie Ray Vaughan... He toured and recorded with Muddy Waters for a number of years and did his best work there...

  14. I'm pretty sure Canada has a nationwide helmet law and I would assume he has heated clothing... just a guess
  15. Once the bike is running the stator supplies the electricity to run the bike and recharge the battery... Except if you're using more juice than the stator supplies... The Stators on the RSV don't put out a lot of extra juice for accessories so it is possible to over tax the stator and discharge the battery... But you'd have to have 55W passing lamps, some heated clothing, extra electronics, and/or be sitting in traffic to cause a battery discharge situation.. I hope this answers your question...
  16. I think you are refering to my post.... 1st. I wasn't trying to talk anybody out of anything.... 2nd. I wasn't responding to the "original" question... I was responding to this: Quote: Originally Posted by Mariner Fan Backrests blow. They push you up into the gas tank..... You, my friend, have never tried a Utopia with the adjustable backrest... 18. They're not wired directly... They go through the relay... It goes Battery to relay... relay to lights... If the relay is off with the key switch the circuit gets disconnected...
  19. No... That's why you use a relay... You hook the relay up to something that works when the key is on (Like the parking light circuit)... The relay acts like switch that only turns on when the key's on... Some have wired a toggle switch between the relay and the keyed power source...
  20. I had a Utopia... For about 3 weeks... It pushed me too far forward and when I tried to adjust it back further the little screw would slip off the back side of the bracket and just flop backwards... It always felt too low for me and I had it adjusted for the highest setting... I really don't see the big attraction with these things... On long rides I found it to be a negative as it limits the repositioning I'm allowed to do without a backrest...It's a PITA to get off and on the bike... I've done back to back 1000 mile days and 60K on my RSV without a backrest... No thanks... Been there, done that Now if someone had a Corbin to swap for my pillowtop I would like to try out that... I'm too cheap to buy one but if I found a good deal... The Corbin looks like you don't need a backrest...
  21. I beg to differ... While there was no actual "Limited Edition" labeled Model... The 1976 Ford Gran Torino Starsky and Hutch was a Limited Edition because of how many were made... "Ford built 1,000 replicas of the "Starsky and Hutch" car in the spring of 1976. Production of the replicas began in March of 1976, and all were produced in Ford's Chicago manufacturing plant. This limited production package was essentially a special paint option, but required the deluxe bumper group and dual color-keyed sport mirrors as mandatory options" As far as yours... "opera windows and landau roofs were now available options for all 2-door models" You probably had a 1976 Ford Gran Torino Brougham of which 3,183 were made... Other than the Starky and Hutch model this had the lowest production numbers...
  22. What kind of oil are you running??
  23. Limited Edition? Was that the Starsky & Hutch Limited Edition??? http://www.automallrichmond.com/p129492_large+1976_Ford_Gran_Torino_Limited+Front_End_View.jpg Not sure what engine you had but I owned the similar 1976 Lincoln Mark IV with 460/4BBL and 4 wheel disk brakes than ran super for a Luxury Liner... I could set the Cruise Control at 100+ MPH and just glide down the road... If you had a small block in 1976 they were detuned so bad with smog stuff they couldn't get out of their own way... It was a smog thing not a Ford thing http://www.lincolnsofdistinction.com/images/oldschool4001.jpg
  24. I'm not sure if slotting the trunk rack is all that safe... The forces at play will allow that trunk to fall off the back if those 4 screws aren't real tight (I've had mine loosen up in the past)... How much longer does it take to remove the screws or just partially loosen them... If you really want to speed up the process you could use a cordless drill with a allen wrench and remove/install the trunk in a minute... Besides if I'm not mistaken you should use shorter screws on the fender strut if you take the trunk off... I know I had to use shorter screws when I took my grab handles off because they wouldn't screw in all the way...
