If I could only have one bike, it would be a 1991+ Honda Nighthawk 750 (I have a 92) As for my favorite bikes that I have ridden: Suzuki Dr400 RSV First Gen Venture TW200 Honda 200X (3 Wheeler) 1989 Kawasaki KDX200 2007 Yamaha R1 2004 Harley Heritage Softail Classic Honestly, I have never ridden a bike I did not like, but those 8 are exceptionally nice bikes for what they do.

Motorcycle Safety Classes - Illinois Residents
GG54172 replied to Cerviperus's topic in Watering Hole
I haven't seen the ride like a pro DVD, but I did end up using the rear brake to control speed on the R1 for parking lot maneauvers. -
Good luck, I bid 10,300 on it the last time it was listed and did not meet reserve. It's a nice looking bike.

Great price? less than 11,500 Good price: 11,500 to 12,500 Reasonable? 12,500 to maybe 14,000, but you can get a brand new 2009 OTD for about $16,200 right now. I was looking at the paperwork from my 01 yesterday, the bike sold brand new for $16,500....

That's the entire point of the experienced riders course. If you already have your license, who cares if you fail? You need to know how to operate your machine, safely, in all circumstances. This is why I bought my 01 last weekend. I had planned to purchase in the fall of this year, but have been hired to teach The MSF course in South WI. Part of the application process requires you to take the MSF Course again (if you haven't had one with-in three years). I want to use the RSV to teach the courses, so I need to start preparing now. Finally, the RSV is an excellent close-quarters parking-lot combat machine. Really only bested by the 250cc class bikes used in the basic course. I have no problem turning the RSV around in two parking spaces. And I have only had my RSV for 5 days. (It looked lonely in the garage, so I rode to the local parking lot this weekend to play around and get used to it.) If you really want to test your skills, try an sportbike... My friend picked up an 07 R1 last fall. I took him to a parking lot to practice a few maneauvers. The clutch was so "grabby" I couldn't get the thing to turn. It was awesome out on the road, but just not designed for anything slow. -
So how well do cowboy boots work with 2nd Gen Controls?
GG54172 replied to GG54172's topic in Riding Gear
Got a link or brand name? -
It's taking me a little bit of effort to get used to the heel-toe shifter. Plus, my current riding boots are worn out and it is time tor eplace. I am thinking about getting a set of cowboy boots, but I am wondering how well the work with the controls. My size 12 foot barely fits between the two shifter pegs as it is. Anyone else ride with forward controls and cowboy boots?

It's pretty normal for motorcycle sales to ramp up early Feb to Late March. People start cleaning out their garages and realize they don't plan on riding much this year. Prices are always highest late winter to early spring. I always tell people to hold their bike until the first week fo march for the best ebay sale price. That being said, every single bike on eBay right now is already higher than the price I paid for mine. Gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling...

I got a quote from the local dealer for an 09 red black for $16,200 OTD. Prices have come down.

My venture is actually a rare Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrier Model. Has alot more power than the standard or "midnight" models, but prone to radioactive leaks....

Thanks for the offer on the carb synch, but I have my own carb synch tool. You are still welcome to come up and visit! I will be selling the pipes in favor of a set of RK pipes. There are a couple of other chrome pieces I will want to sell as well. I am not a big fan of riding a fishing lure down the road.

There are a lot of good deals to be found on Craigslist. However, it is craigslist's policy to only deal local. So even if you live inbetween three craigslist cities (like I do) you have to search each city's website idependantly. It's actually craigslist policy to prevent people from buying or selling over distance. The problem is, when you know what you want, you don't mind driving a few hours or waiting a few weeks to get the item in the mail. So I think I found a way to search for stuff, using google, on craiglist. This should work for any decent search engine, I just like google. First of all, if you click on the "Advanced Search" button Google will enter all of these details for you. First off, enter the terms you want to search for: yamaha venture Google will search for and return a result for any website that has either yamaha or venture somewhere in the page. This will return first gens, second gens, vans, snowmobiles, etc. So let's say you are only interested in the Second Gens. You can limit the search more by adding a phrase, surrounded by quotation marks. Enter the term: "Royal Star Venture" Now google will search for any website that has yamaha, venture, or royal star venture. However, those sites that have all three will be prioritized to the top. If you are not interested in a chevy van, or a yamaha snowmobile (both of which are also called venture) you can delete search terms with the negative sign: –chevy –chevrolet –ski –snow –rs –snowmobile No google will exclude any site that mentions one of the negative signs. Finally, you can search within a specific domain by adding the term site: site:craigslist.org The final search term should look like this: yamaha venture "royal star venture" -chevy -chevrolet -ski -snow -rs -snowmobile site:craigslist.org Again, google will enter all of this information for you if you click the "advanced search" button. Now, google does have a couple of limitations: 1. If someone list an item on craiglist, google will not find it for several hours to several days. 2. The search results can be outdated. 3. You still may miss some items that aren't listed correctly, and get a hit on some other items you don't want that are listed incorrectly. Either way, , and happy hunting!

2001 Aside from my wife's 2002 TW200 (which I bought new) this is the newest vehicle I have ever owned. Also the most I have ever spent on a set of wheels, two, three, four, or otherwise.

Drove down to the St Louis area to pick this bike up. Packed the kids in the car, rented a U-Haul 6x9 trailer, and headed down Friday after work. Stayed in a cheap hotel, purchased the bike, then went to the St Louis zoo for a few hours to let the kids play. Exhausting trip, but I think it was the best Valentine's Day I've ever had. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0776.jpg I bought it from the second owner, who installed: Backrest Handlebar risers Trunk Rack Hopnel Tank Bib Headlight visors Lighted license plate frame Chrome engine mount covers Chrome master cylinder covers Chrome carb covers Chrome front fender rail Celestar Radiator Grille Saddlebag Trim rails Passing lights LED accent lights Kuryakyn ISO Pegs Star Trunk Rack Bag Samson Silver Bullet Fishtail Slip-ons 32,000 miles with brand new Dunlops. I picked it up for $7100. I took it for a ride around the block today. Aside from the 20 degree weather I really enjoyed it! Now all I have to do is wait for the warmer weather Al Gore promised me. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0772.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0775.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0776.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0777.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0778.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0780.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_1751.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_1750.jpg

Joe, I know I expressed interest in your bike, but I ended up buying a different bike this weekend. No doubt that you are asking a fair price, but your bike was still out of my price range. I'd really suggest eBay as 2nd Gens are pulling decent prices right now. Prices will go up the first or second week of March. I'd be willing to handle the eBay listing for you for free if you are unfamilar. You would just have to pay the $35 listing fee and a $35 sellers fee when the bike sells. I have 100% feedback and I have handled quite a few high dollar eBay auctions before. Otherwise, Good luck with the sale.

All of my vehicles have manual shift transmissions. One day i was down at Fort Leonard Wood with a rental car (auto trans). I was headed back to the hotel at like 1 in the morning, dog tired. I exited the highway and came to the end of the exit ramp. Thinking I was still in my car, I pushed the brake pedal down a little and then pushed the "clutch" (other half of the oversized brake pedal) all the way down to the floor. I still have the kia logo stamped on my forehead.

Sears Motorcycle/ATV Jack
GG54172 replied to dlhoulton's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My wife works at Sears and i get the sears employee discount. I do not like any hydraulic powered product sears makes. From day one the atv lift would pump up just fine, but it would take hours for the lift to go down. I changed the oil, went to a lighter oil, and finally removed the release valve from the unit alltogether and plugged the hole with a plug. Now I can pump up the lift and then it will hold long enough to put the mechanical lock in place. When i want to let the bike down I pump it a few times and release the mechanical lock and it lets the bike down slowly. They both work fine, just not what I'd expect. I'd really encourage you to look elsewhere. I like Sears mechanical tools just fine, but that's probably because they are still using the same forging dies that they developed in the 60's.- 26 replies
