Clutch slips when cold out but not warm?
ctraylor replied to 6pak's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had the same problem with my 86. I was using Castrol 20W50 car oil and mine started slipping. I changed to Rotella and after about 3 oil changes the slip was gone. The type of oil makes a great difference. I am sold on the Rotella oil now. -
Man it would take me an hour to read all these post. WHY!! did it take this many post to explain WHY????:bang head:
-
I read that you used Castrol 10W30. I tried to use this and my clutch started slipping. You must use the kind made for motorcycles or your clutch will slip. It took 3 oil changes before my clutch stopped slipping in high gear.
-
My bike was pulling and I pulled the forks off and resealed them and refilled with 15 weight for oil and pull was gone. I think one side was out of oil.

Hydrogen Peroxide does something to the molecules to kill the smell. I read this somewhere.

Are you going there for an attitude adjustment or an altitude adjustment. There is a difference you know.

I feel a song coming on here: Now it was a Saturday evening on the edge of town just about the time the sun went down ole Johnny slips on into the old out house. Now he knew that it was a gettin late and this was about the only place he could concentrate so he opened the door and slipped on in. Well ole Johnny he was raised up like a dog and they always used a Sears and Roebuck catalog until he heard about this new stuff called toilet paper. Well up to now everthing was a going alright until he tried to use it that night and that's when he noticed that something was definately wrong. Chorus: Johnny Baker Johnny Baker he was a cabinet maker and the first time that he wiped himself with toilet paper. Well the paper was thin and his fingers slipped on in. What a hell of a shape ole Johnny Baker was in. Maybe someone can write the next verse. That one took a while......:smilies6: Going to :draming:now...... Good night.......

I can't believe this thread went on this long over one word. It is a good thing no one said the work "IF" man that is one we could talk for hours about.

I just bought a 99 BMW K1200lt about a month ago and it is the sweetest bike I have ever ridden. It is fuel injected and has gotten 49 to 50 mpg on every tank I have burned. The saddle bags are not as big as my Venture but I will be buying a trailer for long hauls. I also read that BMW has a straight 6 engine in the plans for next year.

If you will price the K1200LT it is cheaper than the Goldwing. I bought a 99 model with 15000 miles for $6200.00 and love it. I think the new ones are going for about $21,000.00 which is much cheaper than the Goldwings. It has plenty of power, seems to have more than the Venture on the low end but I think the Venture will beat it on the upper end but the big difference is that the BMW has 2 overdrive gears. It also gets 50 mpg 2 up consistently and is fuel injected. I will not get rid of my Venture but will ride the BMW not on long trips. -
1986 Venture Royale bumping 60,000 miles on it and never had a problem.

I actually ordered some Harley baffles and welded to the end to quiet them down a little. Not real loud while cruising but will definately talk to ya when you twist the throttle. Alot of the guys heard them at the International Ralley in Harrison, AR maybe someone could elaborate on the sound.

Modern Day 1st Gen
ctraylor replied to Sheradan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I own an 86 Venture and the BMW K1200LT. Both are great bikes but I will have to admit that the BMW has a slight edge on the handling capabilities. I like the heated grips and seats also. -
Doesn't PG mean no one under 17 admitted. Maybe we should change it to G rated if you want your 6 year old grandaughter to be able to read it.

Engine cuts out at WOT
ctraylor replied to ctraylor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This has been a good one boys and maybe this winter I will remove the carbs and go through them. Right now it is running fine I made a trip this summer to North Carolina and back and ran fine. I am not a speed demon anyway but am the type of person that if I know something is not right it bugs the hell out of me. I have since bought a K1200lt BMW and have been putting some miles on it so can now work on the Yamaha. I might bring it to the maintenance day at Free Bird's place in June. You guys are great Thanks, Curtis -

Mine did that until I upgraded to larger wires then replaced the battery with a PC680 gell battery and that made all the difference. I bought a new bike and removed the gell and reinstalled the previous battery and the problem came back. These oddyssy batteries are great.

My first gen has never let me down and I have ridden it all over the US without even a hickup. I would be more afraid of someone stealing it. I knew a guy that got pulled over by the cops and they took his bike and left him standing there.

Are you kidding? That's exactly where I want to be.....

I found that mine turns over easy. Just lean a little to the right and raise foot. Sorry couldn't resist
