  1. Haven't had time to work on it yet. Looks like Sunday evening will be the next opportunity. My plan is to pull all the lights off except one tail light, verify that works, then add back one at a time. I'll use a spare battery with an inline fuse in some tester wire to test the lights.
  2. 1.32 this morning = $5 USG
  3. No LED's. Standard bulbs. Wasn't much choice on the grounding method as the light pods supplied with the kit ground through the mounting bolt.
  4. CB antenna on the wrong side of the ....
  5. Just finished wiring the beast for a trailer using a Reese Towpower tail light converter. Bike lights behave normally after completion. When I connect the trailer and turn the key the headlight fuse blows. I see two possibilities: 1. There's a short in the running lights on the trailer or 2. The trailer running lights are too much draw for the circuit. Any helpful thoughts appreciated...
  6. There was a gator?
  7. +1 for that. 09 RSTD, no whine at all. Bought new in '11 over 12000 km and climbing.

  9. About 2 months ago when my passenger was mounting I let the lean get a little too big and we both sat down on the pavement next to the bike. Now it a rigid practice. Everybody get the quick brief every time: "Sit still when stopped or slow-moving. Lean with the bike. Relax and enjoy." 1st time (with me) passengers, we talk in more detail about what that means. Mounting: 1. I get on and start up. 2. If necessary manouevre into a position where I can take off forwards (I never ever back up with a passenger if it can be avoided at all). 3. Stand down, bike resting on stand. 4. I stand up on left foot, taking my weight off the bike and stand. 5. Passenger gets on and settles in. 6. I sit, lift bike, side-stand up, go. Dismount: 1. Stop, stand down, bike resting on stand. 2. I stand up on left foot, taking my weight off the bike and stand. 3. Passenger off. 4. If necessary, manouevre bike into parking spot. 5. Shut-down and off. Haven't had an issue since we started this. Same rules apply whether it's my 60# daughter or my slightly heavier wife. I tell every passenger that if they don't follow the rules and they cause the bike to go over, they get to pick it up. (this son-of-a-beach is heavy!)
  10. I had a v-star 950 before I traded up to the RSTD. Great bike. Light, nimble, lots of fun, but with me at 260# and my wife at (well, never mind, I ain't that stupid) it just wasn't quite enough horse. My son has a vstar 650 and loves it. Cheap to run, reliable. Only real answer is to sit on a bunch of bikes and see what feels right.
  11. When my wife turned 40 I told her I was going to trade her in on 2 20yr olds. She told me I wasn't wired for 220....
  12. 21 Yr old female driver. Cell phone? Makeup? Both?
  13. I'm 52. 2 years ago I let my son talk me into doing the rider course with him (he wanted me to pay his fee, and figured he could bury that in the idea that we'd be doing something together. I bought a 950 (v-Star), and rode that for about 3 months to get comfortable. Then I spent considerable time talking my wife onto the passenger seat. She enjoyed it, but wasn't real comfortable. Narrow seat, no backrest, etc. With the 2 of us on it felt a little underpowered anyway. Traded the 950 in on the RSTD last year. Got the ultimate seat set (with armrests). Haven't been able to talk her OFF the back since. She starts her course this thursday and there's a shiny new V-Star 650 sitting in my driveway waiting for her to finish the course. I've ridden it a little just to keep the fluids circulated (feels like driving a rollerblade after the RSTD). Long story to say something simple... Riding is fun. After 24 years married, and 7 years prior, knowing each other we've found something new to do together.
  14. I apologize if I offended either you or your friend. I would think that by now even the most die-harl hardley afficionados among us would realize that the teasing is meant at least mostly in fun.... but perhaps not...
  15. But the question is .... how many parts came off while it was in transit....
  16. Hid, so she wouldn't see me, and
  17. Also check out ultimate seats. Pricey, but just about perfect - for me...
  18. Ultimate seats, front , rear, driver backrest, wide sissy bar bad, and passenger armrests. Completely changed the experience. Before on long runs I had to walk around, stretch, convince myself to go again after every gas stop. Now I gas and go, tank after tank. Wife likes it too, more importantly.
  19. Multitool socket/allenkey/wrench set Flashlight Booster cables Set of fuses zap straps Litre oil 2 litre gas first aid kit Yamaha tool kit Hideaway spot: Spare Key Emergency Cash
  20. Yes. Doing a mini-trip next month -St. John's NL to Montreal PQ and back - approx 5000 km total
  21. There's approximately 7500km between my family and that lunatic, and, after watching that video, I'm grateful for each and every one of them.
  22. I was out from 13 april until 21 december last year. The start and end of that was a little chilly, but we have stuff called 'clothing' for that. I am planning to ride south, once I no longer need this JOB thing that eats up so much of my time...
  23. Brought my beast in yesterday for the spring service. I'm planning a road trip next month and when we looked it over the service guy and I agreed the the stock rear (11000km) was looking a bit iffy for a long run. He had a pair of venoms in stock, and I said "Sure, why not." When I picked it up that afternoon I took it for a run to get the 'new' off the tires. OMG! I've never been willing to push the beast hard because it felt heavy in the turns, a little squirelly. Within 10 minutes I was taking lean angles I'd never dared with it before and the thing was running like it was on rails. I actually managed to touch a floorboard to the road. Felt like the v-star 950 I traded in for it... It's a completely different bike. I know I've restarted the tire brand debate, but I had to say it.... I'm REALLY impressed with the venoms. I'll let you know how the durability works out, but the first impression is amazing.
  24. I'll see your 'East Coast' and raise you a "Most Easterly Point in North America". Welcome TampaKH
