  1. Up to 70cm snow (27.5 in) forcast for the next 24 hours with high winds/blizzard conditions. Argh!!!! Somebody remind me why I live here?
  2. Small circular saw blade - carbide tooth
  3. In the background you see my brilliant son refueling his 650... he ran it out of gas because he 'forgot' he was on reserve. I love my new ride.... I even tracked down a cassette for it...

  5. Picked up me new '12 venture Aug 13..... Loving it loving it loving it (and it looks great parked next to my TD)
  6. Engine and fan were designed for the correct operating temperature. As long as you're not actually overheating, fluid and fluid level is correct, and the fan comes on automatically when it's supposed to, I wouldn't mess around. If it ain't broke....
  7. Oh great!!! My wife saw that... Now the Ultimate Seat isn't good enough any more. Thanks a whole bunch...
  8. Starting to wonder if this thread will go on much LONGer. These messages are PUNishing...
  9. Hydrate BEFORE you ride in extreme heat. Drinking water during the ride is not hydration, it's attempting to replace water loss. Fill your reserves the day before and keep your level up. This will help you easily replace loss, and will provide you with the reserve that you WILL lose. The rule of thumb proven in 22 years in the CF and 2 tours in Afghanistan is: If you don't feel like you need to pee, you're not drinking enough.
  10. We're expecting a sweltering 66 degrees this weekend.... sheesh
  11. Who's your daddy? Don?
  12. I live a long way behind nowhere, don't think I've ever even met another member of this site (in person) The maintenance advice, knowledge and support I've found here can't be matched. I didn't start riding until age 49. Never turned a wrench on anything. Figured that's what mechanics are for. Since I bought the beast last year I'd added accessories, changed the seat, etc. This spring I wired in a Stebel horn, built a trailer from a kit, wired the bike for the trailer, installed a hitch, and dragged said homemade trailer 5000 km from here to Montreal and back (my first real road trip). Would never have had the nerve to attempt the trip, much less do the trailer and associated bike mods, without the expertise, guidance, and support from this site. This afternoon I'm gonna change my own oil, just because I can.. (another new experience) Is Don making $1000? Is Don making $100,000? Don't know, and don't care. I'm paying $12 a year and getting incredible value for my money. Welcome to the family. Relax and enjoy.
  13. You must have a YamaHarley... :stirthepot:
  14. You sound like the guy I hired to paint my porch for $200. He came to the door after 2 hours and said "I'm done, but it wasn't a Porch, it was a Ferrari..."
  15. It's never good to hear of a rider down. At least there's no tar snakes or potholes where he's riding today. "There must be motorcycles in heaven, because it's the closest thing to heaven I've found on earth."
  16. RSTD too ....
  17. Given the time 1st Gens spend up on the jack being worked on, bike not moving, speedo reads 0, 100% accurate.
  18. I prefer the simpler solution, mark one eyeball. Since I ride at or near the speed limit, I can detect the radar equipped patrol cars by eye as I ride past them. No tickets, either.
  19. +1 for the Carbon-One hitch. Easy install. I just did 5000 km from St. John's to Montreal and back pulling a home built trailer kit. Absolutely no issues.
  20. Just got back from a 5000km road trip with a new kit-built utility trailer with a cartop carrier on top. Trailer weighed about 100, load about another 150. Riding 1-up (I'm about 260). Trailer body was almost perfectly level when connected, hitch weight was just under 30 lb. At about 140km/hr (87mph) I picked up a slight oscillation and backed off the speed. Most of the trip I was between 100 and 120 kmh (62-75 mph) and I found I was generally more comfortable in 4th than 5th as 5th felt underpowered trying to maintain the speed. Eastern Canada is pretty hilly. Gas mileage was worse than expected, but it was my first trip with a trailer so I have nothing to compare to.
  21. I've just sent my $10 (+extra shipping) My own Royal Newfoundland Regiment is a 'Sister Regiment' to the Royal New South Wales Regiment, and we are the ONLY North American unit to carry the battle honour 'Gallipoli', 20 Sept 1915 to 9 Jan 1916, on our Regimental Colours. Because of this we commemorate 'ANZAC day' annually with a Battalion Parade on the Saturday closest to 25th April, which is also our Regimental Birthday. More recently I shared some sand and dirt with Australian forces in Kandahar, Afghanistan when I was serving with the Canadian Headquarters in 2007 and 2009. Given the shared history, this is a patch I will wear with special pride. Thanks for thinking to make it available. I'll PM my address.
  22. Leaving Flatrock NL for St. Jean sur Richelieu PQ Saturday morning (19th May). Planning on crossing the island on Saturday, ferry Saturday night, 1000km across NS and NB Sunday, and the last 600 or so km Monday morning.... Any members along the way that might be interested in a coffee and a handshake, it'd be nice to actually meet some of the folks I've met on here this past year...
  23. I've got the set I pulled of my 09 when I put the ultimate seats on. Used less than a month. Make me a reasonable offer, including shipping, and I'll part with them. Only hitch is I'm away from home until 5 June, but we can work out the details as soon as I get back.
  24. Geez! It's a pond monster!
