  1. From the article of the OP: "Most of this fear comes from very successful marketing campaigns mounted by the manufacturers and distributors of motorcycle-specific lubricants". Spend you money the way it makes you feel good but don't say it is a "HAVE TOO" The original Yamaha clutch is not a great clutch, the same is true for my VTX. Both were replaced years ago with a much better aftermarket clutch that is not affected by automotive oil.
  2. Over 80K with only automotive type oil so not sure why someone would say these bikes have trouble with that type oil.
  3. Enjoyed that! Thanks.
  4. Lots of people do it to VTXs, they call it going double dark side with the car tire already on the back. They report no handling problems and higher tread life. They do suggest mounting it reverse direction for another whole set of reasons. I myself have no desire to try it.
  5. After clipping ty wramps and some digging I fould the spare switched white plug. Perfect, thanks guys.
  6. Still don't see anything to try without just cutting into wires.
  7. It is a tri color LED battery monitor. It is under 5 amps. Not at the bike right now but look for the two places suggested. Thanks.
  8. I need a switched hot to tie into somewhere around the battery. That is where my wire is now as I also needed a direct hook up to battery so all three wires are under seat. Any suggestions where? Second choice is in front of the fuel tank if I pull the one wire back to the front.
  9. Might get better answers in the first Gen section.
  10. Still 12 volts going to it even if it is not pumping so yes it will get hot without pumping. The airpcraft pump is my choice for a pump. Way less expensive and I bet money it is better quality and will last longer.
  11. I say yes. You want to be able to turn them off if riding in a group, just don't need them or if limping home on a weak battery.
  12. Lots of stations here have pure gas for a little more money. Acording to pure-gas.org so does Ohio. http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=OH
  13. See this thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=791448#post791448
  14. The new one does make a little clicking noise just not as loud as the OEM pump.
  15. I would guess that part from Yamaha would be quite expensive. E-bay has complete used wheel and tires for under 100 bucks. I got one a couple of years ago and it is great having a spare rear tire. Don't have to get rid of that one with lows miles left on it just because I'm heading out a a trip. That would also give you that part you need.
  16. Very common problem, had it myself and fixed myself with a sterring head bolt adjustment. Look here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=511
  17. Always on reserve. It has a fuel guage, a low fuel light and a low fuel mile countdown. How many warnings do you need?
  18. My wife admits that I make better choices than her. At least sinced that I explained how she choose to marry me and I choose her.
  19. Thinking about having a bacon burger. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f90/2wheelsforme/1236848_10151688489184947_2145489914_n2_zpsf501ba75.jpg
  20. Thanks for checking. I'm still not sure because several people over at VTXOA say it is really bad and to stay away from it. My Venture does not mind dirt and gravel, we have even forded a few small streams in the past. I guess I'll leave it up to my riding buds on a Connie Concourse and a Harley Ultra.
  21. Has anyone traveled the Old Cades Cove Rd. from Cades Cove to Townsend resently? It shows as being dirt or gravel part of the way and it's North only. Don't mind good dirt roads but if I come in from the East on Laurel Creek Rd will I be able to use Old Caves Cove or have to back track? On a bike not a Jeep.
  22. Vogol info is hard to find for us who do not visit here so often. With much searching I found the info page and even it does not state where any events are located and not even sure what is the host city and motel. Vogal State Park, Blairsville?
  23. I got the new pump installed. About 50 for the pump and around 20 for the several brass fittings I used to make it work in the same location and with the original hoses. All it takes is a slight bend in each of the mounting brackets and it bolts up to one of the two original holes. I purchased two 1/8" npt to 5/16" hose connectors, a hose to hose union, a 1/8" street 90, a 1/8" close nipple, a 1/8" npt 90 and a short piece of 5/16 hose and two hose clamps. Only two wires to splice into with what ever connection you choose. Very easy and I'm hopeing this one last longer than the last two OEM pumps. Word of warning; this new pump does not make the noise the original one does so at first you might think it is not working as I did. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/facetpumps.php
