Slow batt drain
2WHEELSFORME replied to 2WHEELSFORME's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The light is wired all the time but is LED and only blinks once every few seconds and is not supposed to drain. It also has been on the bike for a few years with no problems. Nothing is recently installed and the drain is new. Thanks FF for the advice. My laziness was hoping for a quick fix with little thinking required. -
05 Venture with 93K on the odo. Some extras like lights and Gps. I have a batt indicator light that after a few days of sitting showed the batt was low. Batt was over a year old so replaced it and now it still shows low after a few days. Bike will crank with yellow light have not let it get to red yet. So it looks like I have a slow batt drain somewhere or possible my light is defective but don't think so. I have done no troubleshooting so far was just wondering if someone knows a weak part on this bike for me to take a first look at?

Rear tire change.....what to do???
2WHEELSFORME replied to Kettlinton's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
No reason to take the left bag off, nothing but a single nut comes off that side and it is easy to reach with nothing more than an adjustable wrench. No reason to worry about a balancing act as the bike will see more movement from getting the tire and rim out from under the fender than that much imbalance. Don't make it harder than it needs to be. Check the pads, grease the pins. I have two sets of wheels and one with new rubber is ready to go back on the bike as soon as the old one comes off. -

Also a good time to check the pads and replace or at least swap the sides as one wears faster than the other. -

I have Nasty Boys aftermarket pipes that are much smaller that stock muffs and the bolt slides out over the top. -

Only the right bag comes off when I do it. No trunk, no peg, no muff. Takes about 25 min. -
Close to GS and a quick ride is Gulf State Park and take a ride around Shelby Lake. Also close and over the intercostal bridge on 59 and to the right is Lu Lu's restaurant on the waterway and can be seen from the big bridge on 59. Lu Lu is Jimmy Buffet's sister and it is an interesting place and pretty good food. Go West for a short ride to Ft. Morgan for a tour and maybe ride the ferry to Dolphin Island, could be a day trip if you take the ferry. Up the bay is The Grand Hotel at Point Clear, stop walk the grounds and visit the pier. More north up the bay is the Fairhope Municipal Pier, nothing special but a nice ride. Then go East on 32 and before Cowpen Creek just south of 32 is Big Daddy's for lunch on the water, rustic. More East as in north of GS is Barber Marina east of Wolf Bay and North of the intercostal. It has a Stonehenge replica some dinosaurs, a very pretty marina and some really fine sweeping curves going in and back out with little traffic, highly recommend this. Close to that is Pirates Cove Restaurant on Roberts Bayou, very casual place but good for lunch or just a beer or a break with a view. A must do is from GS go East along the beach to the Flora-Bama on the state line, famous place for many reasons. Continue for a full day trip to West Pensacola onto the Navy Base back entrance and visit the Naval Aviation Museum, a really fine place to spend several hours. Entrance is free but the movie is not but see it anyway. They also have a nice light house you can visit and a view of Pensacola pass into the Gulf. The museum is also highly recommended.

Amazon has both the Yuasa 20L(270 amp) and the 20HL(310 amp) I use the 310 amp one. It is $89.73 with free shipping and tax in some states and not in others. The Deka had some poor reviews that may be the fault of Battery Mart. Prices are about equal.

Would like to organize a Venture Meet and eat in Alabama.

Just remember it is flat like Florida in Dothan. Better roads to the West, Greenville, Evergreen, Monroeville esp 41 north to Camden, North of Montgomery, is really nice as in 9 to Lineville. -

XLarge Baggershield
2WHEELSFORME replied to MidlifeVenture's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just a hint I found out: I have the medium after market shield and it was right on line with my field of view. Terrible position. I installed the leveling links which raised the back of the bike the perfect amount that I now look just over the shield which I prefer and understand is recommended. Nice to have a choice with out cutting the plastic. I'm guessing you could install the smaller front tire if your short legged and it would have the same results. -
Best accessory you have purchased for your 2nd gen?
2WHEELSFORME replied to Broncoboy36081's topic in Watering Hole
The Garmin Zumo tied into the system with the buddy rich cable. Tried the backrest and did not like it and my stock Midnight seat is so comfortable I have no need to change it. I would not call tires an accessory and a light that is only benefited from at night is "the best"? Different strokes I guess. -

It is not a bike if you open doors, use a steering wheel or have more than two wheels.

brake disk chrome covers
2WHEELSFORME replied to 2WHEELSFORME's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The disc look great without the chrome covers. -
Yes it can be that simple. Me on the other hand stupidly took mine to the shop and had the pleasure of letting them tell me it was only corrosion on the terminal and they fixed it and for a price.

6000 on dino oil with a filter. Not that it matters but close to 90K on my 05. Motorcycles are something that people love to baby and often over care for in my opinion!

Bearings don't just wear out and should not be replaced just so you feel better. Wheel bearings especially should last the life of the bike. Checking the feel, making sure they are lubricated and making sure they are set correctly is all that is needed in my opinion. 86k on my 05 with same neck and swing arm bearings. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Taking out an old good quality undamaged bearing and replacing with a lower quality bearing and possibly damaging the new one is not a wise decision.

I don't think that is a good substitute for a real lift. First of all it does not lift high enough to get a wheel out from under the fender for changing a tire. Having the ability to go a little higher or a little lower really helps when reinserting an axel also.

Removing Chrome pieces
2WHEELSFORME replied to DarkHorse9825's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Too much chrome for me also on my Midnight. Eyebrows, trunk key trim, dash Yamaha piece, front rotor chrome covers and tank badges all removed. Front x 2 pieces and rear fender trim, passenger floorboards, rear crash bars, front fender accent piece and saddle bag lid latches all powered coated black. Trim between windshield and fairing and lower clear wind deflectors painted black. Even the aftermarket SS brake, throttle, and clutch lines are black rather than silver. Darker than midnight, much more to my liking. -

Yes I would bet anything new will have some styling people on Venture Rider will not like. If fact the proof of that is so many people here still like that antique styling of those ugly gen Is. -
brake disk chrome covers
2WHEELSFORME replied to 2WHEELSFORME's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sam, make sure you have a tool for removing the bolts holding the covers and disk in place. They are not common hex head and they are tight. I put back on using blue lock tight. -
Take a look at this old thread. I used the one with the positive cut off and made for airplanes. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=80318&highlight=FUEL+PUMP

I removed the chrome covers on the front wheel that covers the two disk. Just prefer the looks of a traditional looking disk and continuing to remove gaudy chrome that I don't like. I noticed one side looks to be weighted on the inside of the cover. On a 200 mile ride I notice no difference in the way the front wheel feels. I do wonder about that weighted cover and which side it is suppose to be on. Could not find it showing as being different in my shop manual. Thoughts?

Battery charging on my 06 RSV
2WHEELSFORME replied to uncledj's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It is only two threaded nuts holding the seat that covers the battery.
