Guilty or not? If it goes in front of a grand jury and they make a ruling, at this point it is not able to be brought back up again in a court. The grand jury is a necessary step to put this accident behind all parties involved. If it does not go to a grand jury then in 5 or 10 years under a new D A this can be brought back up and tried in a court at that time. There are no winners as one man is dead and another has to live with it, may the families find peace. Bill

2006 RSTD gas tank

All of the RSTD tanks will interchange after the restart of production, in around 2003 or so, up to current. Lower tank cover will cover most of the dent, Tank bib may help too. Pinwall cycles or ebay will be a good source for parts. Best of luck and happy trails. Bill -
I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the oil filter? Anti backflow valve bleeding down after she sat a while. I had a roadstar that was bad about cold engine noise due to all the oil draining down after sitting a while. Roadstarclinic.com gave several options / brands that worked. Changed filters and no more noise. My 2 cents worth. Bill

It is my understanding , the twinkie acts like a crank case vent...so it has the ability to push excessive oil into the air box through the vent hose. so now the excess oil has a "vent" to leave the engine. If the packing is absent or crushed or wadded up on one end the oil can easily be pushed through it. Compression blowback would cause increase crankcase pressure blowing oil out the vent. Like I said, this is my understanding of the twinkie function. Bill:backinmyday:

FYI I ran a big block chevy out of Texas up to Kansas years ago, ran fast and hard and lost about 4 quarts of oil, when I returned, ran the speed limit ( 55 ) and no oil consumption? Pvc valve was dumping oil at high rpm. Check the twinkie packing cause that would let oil get to the air breather. Just a thought. Bill:detective:

Those brackets are called p-clamps, get them at Lowes or most hardware stores. There too darn easy. I did break one on a 3000 mile ride, so I spent another dollar and bought more. Bill

I had a set of the Samson fishtails on the last rsv, loved them. The current rsv came with a set of the Samson turn outs, bit too loud for me. Currently have a set of hd ultraclassic mufflers on. Fishtails were my favorite. No rejetting on any so far. Bill Might be interested in a used set of fishtails, or trade for a set of turn outs? -
I have read and seen video of using an old 35mm film negative to do the same thing. Good marketing idea. Bill

Great machines, glad you are enjoying it. I have made the Sturgis trip this month and rode 3000 miles in 7 days 961 in one day coming home( personal best) I wasn't worth shooting the next day, but the bike did great. I have recovered and the bike hasn't missed a beat. All I can say is ride it like you stole it, enjoy it and go again and again. Great memories in the making. Bill:cool10:

No offense, however it is of my opinion that moble home axles and tires are typically made for a one way trip not to exceed 1000 miles. They have found there way to lots of trailers and lots of problems. Money well spent to change / get rid of them now will pay dividends later in life. I have friends that run them and have all kinds of problems. save some heartache. Just my opinion Bill:no-no-no:

It is more about oil contamination(dirty) than thermal breakdown. Driving conditions have been known to be a bit dusty around here and so I change oil and filter every 3k miles, rotella T and Purolator filter. Bill

Ebay and Pin-wall salvage are good resources. These motors are the same from 99 to current. Get good compression readings and run it. Bill

Second on the trailer cooler rack. I removed the cooler rack from my tag along trailer(2 u-bolts) bolted a receiver hitch size square stock in place and drilled a hole for the receiver pin. I just returned from Sturgis with this setup (3000 miles round trip) used it too and from Sturgis for a cooler and fuel can with no issues. With imagination this could be used for a variety of applications. Bill- 25 replies

Tire dealer in Sturgis advised me (for what its worth) that the commander 2 was designed for the European market. With rain/ wet/ twisty roads in mind, this was his most popular road tire. Bill

Tx2sturgis and I sat in one at Sturgis. Very nice rig. Much more like a car than a bike, with tilt steering wheel, clutch brake and accelerator pedal, and a stick shift much like a car. Bigger in life than in pictures. If the wife can drive a stick, there should be little or no transition to this three wheel machine. It felt fun just sitting in it. No test rides at Sturgis either , as they were not officially released till later this fall. I could own one. Bill:cool10:

Hey Rick, I would give it another month or two and let the bike prices drop nicely as the weather cools down. I have done this successfully a few times. I picked up my new to me venture last fall, 03 midnight rsv 40k miles for $5k very nicely outfitted. I thought I could live with that til the next one comes up. Bill

Gas in exhaust

I would not run the bike til this issue is resolved. I had a rstd that did the same thing on rt rear cylinder, hydro locked when starting and bent a rod...pulled the plug , blew the cylinder out, started bike and...instant engine knock. No fun to deal with. Rod bent and the piston skirt was contacting the crankshaft counter weights. Best of luck on yours. Bill
