That is a carb needle and seat / float sticking problem. Yes it will fill the cylinder with fuel and cause you to bend a rod. I did it on an old RSTD I had. Petcock is suppose to allow fuel to flow when left open( as I always do)when this fails , it will leak externally on the engine or ground. Need to look at the carbs.

I worked at a Chrysler dealer back in the day. We replaced lots of Heads and head gaskets. It seems the valve guides would wear out too, causing oil consumption. I do not remember the heads being all that high. While they are off, have them checked. Lots of good information here.

Bike will die if the stand is lowered while in gear, Thus if the sensor thinks the stand is being lowered while riding, the bike will be shut down by the sensor.

I second the ignition switch, It happened to me on a 2nd gen. Easy to wire past, place a toggle switch , and off you go.

I have a used rivco on the shelf... I bought a used parts package (tote full of accessories off craigs list) a while back. It is very heavily built, not perfect, but nice. I have a utopia back rest with RSV and RSTD mounts, kurry highway pegs and mounts, Yamaha storage bike cover, and maybe a few more things that I have not used. I may be willing to sell a bit of this stuff.

Sure would be a pretty ride, with the leaves changing, this time of year. All the way up north in New York, a scenic tour through the trees, deals gap, or maybe a coastal route. Very nice long weekend it sounds like.
Go for it. Its easy to spend your money.

There was a brand new 2012 venture posted a couple days ago, on this site, that showed a dealer in New York with one at a large discount. It was a black, I think around 15k. Good luck

The dodge rams were not known for their mpg. My opinion, do not waste your money on a gas pickup programmer. If it was a diesel, heck yea, real results. Gas not much difference. I now drive a 07 classic GMC with the 4.8, 14.5 mpg. Programmer and exhaust work done and now maybe 15.3, going down hill with a tail wind,but not all the time. Your pickup is about where they should be.

Make frequent stops every 60 to 100 miles or so. Top off the fuel, get a drink , walk around and just visit. Makes for a much better experience on the bike.

Try dis-connecting the battery and go straight jumper cables to battery cables, If the battery plates are shorting out, it will not take a jump. check terminal connections also, dirty/ corroded cables can do this also.

The most popular aftermarket bars are Flanders Part#650-08783 height 9" width 33" pullback 18.5" This works with the factory setup, not sure about the fairing you have.
