  1. Look at a set of Kuryakyn Offset Longhorns. You can rotate them to extend the footpeg closer or farther away. Very solid though not cheap. Link here: http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/IMID/467 There are several types of foot pegs that use the offset mounting. RR
  2. Many states do not require registration/plates for small trailers. If you are from outside the country, I do not believe you will get any LEO's to give a second look at the registration for a trailer. Here in Wisconsin, we don't have plates/registration requirements. I have pulled my trailer around the Midwest and the Southeast and have never been bothered. I have also pulled it thru Canada without any problem. I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, if they give you a citation for it, you can just frame it and put it on the wall when you get back down under. I don't think they will pursue you down there to collect the fine. It was a good idea to about having your friends get on the HOG website and troll around for someone who will rent/loan them a trailer. I expect the trailer owner will want a serious deposit, but that could be handled easily. Work with a local (local to Oregon) HD shop to handle the money. RR
  3. Nice find. I believe it was Tarten Terror that is building the FF edition. RR
  4. I mounted my CenTech AP-2 on the wall above the battery, below the seat support frame. Will get pictures tonight. It works great, is easy to get to if you want to add a circuit, and cleans up the battery box. RR
  5. As another thought, just take a couple of bungie cords (or one of those nylon netting things) and strap your bag on the passenger seat. Plenty of room there. RR
  6. Be careful with this. The Packer God/ ViQueen Killer may be heading your way on his retirement tour. I wonder if he will be cheered or boo'd if he shows up in Lambeau wearing purple? RR
  7. I will also get this occasionally when the load is too great for the cruise control to compensate. Such as when I am running at high speed (for the cruise - maxes out at about 80MPH) and pass a truck. The wind wash from the truck cab will sometimes be enough to not allow the cruise to keep up. The lights will start flashing. Turning off and back on the cruise switch in the fairing resets everything and I am good to go. Don't know if this helps. RR
  8. This is more of a California problem. With their tighter (think - do anything that LOOKS like it will help whether it does or not) environmental standards, the gas pumps have a strict vapor recovery system. The spring loaded covering on the gas nozzle goes all the way to the end and can be difficult to retract to allow the nozzle to go into the tank. Here in the Midwest, we don't have those problems and this certainly looks like a waste of money. As for gas splashing on the tank when finishing the fill, punch out a couple of holes in the filler neck to release the offending trapped air and the problem will go away. You will also gain an additional 1/2 gal, or so, capacity. Instructions are here on the website. RR
  9. The Tourtank works will and is easy to plumb in. I have the 3 gallon version. Just got back from a long trip and it was essential in the strong headwinds. My mileage was knocked down to almost 25 MPG (driving 80 MPH into a 30 MPH headwind). On long trips before I got the Toutank, I just filled a 1 gal plastic gas can and strapped it next to the cooler on the trunk rack. Perhaps not as safe as the MSR cans, but cheap and had it around already. RR
  10. Try here: http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/1662/cat/7 RR
  11. +1 on the Stebel horn and the Carbon One bracket. The CO bracket can be found in the Classifieds section. Easy install and looks good too - and it is LOUD! RR
  12. Steve, I might suggest getting some route planning software such as Microsoft Streets and Trips. It cost about $50 and is very easy to use - yet quite powerful. RR
  13. Rick Butler (an esteemed member here) also sells bolts for quick removal of your bags. Check in the classifieds. they work great. RR
  14. Steve, Took that trip last year and loved it. Make sure you go up Mt. Washington in NH. Stay up near Bah' Hah'bah' (Bar Harbor for yous Midwesterners) and ride the loop around Arcadia Nat'l Park. And if you can, get up really early and watch the sun come up on Cadillac Mtn. If you are heading down the east coast, stop at Young's Lobster Pound in Belfast, ME for lunch. They prepare the best lobster roll you will ever have. Their fish chowder is absolutely premium. When in VT, ride in the Green Mountain National Forest. At the intersection of hwy 100 and hwy 125 in Hancock, there is a little grocery store/deli that makes a mean deli sandwich for about $4. It is a piece of true Americana where they have on the aisle end display VT maple syrup right next to the ammo. Anyway, head west on 125 and then north on Lincoln Road near Ripton. Take that up to 17 and follow 17 across the mountain. It is a fabulous ride and an incredible view from the top. In NH, you need to ride the Kancamagus Hwy (Hwy 112). It goes from Conway, NH to Lincoln, NH. This link is to my ride report on AdvRiders.com about our trip. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=363843 It may give you some additional ideas. There is a lot to see up there that we didn't have time for. Enjoy. RR
  15. Hey, would this finally allow me to get more miles out of a rear tire? It appears the Speed-O-Healer is the solution of choice if I want the cruise to work the way I want it. However, the Throttle-Boss is a much easier way to fix this since I don't travel on the high speed roads very often. RR
  16. MKrieg, I seem to recall taking hwy 5 north out of Huntington was a fun road. Not too many curves, but lots of whoops (up and down). Old 24 to Wabash was also a fun road but I don't know if it is still open since they built the new 24. I graduated from Homestead and lived off of 24 in Forest Ridge. My folks have now moved out to Scotia off of Aboite Center. Where abouts in SW FtW are you? I will give you and Peg a shout when I am coming to the Fort this summer to visit the 'rents. RR
  17. Hmmm.. Interesting (picture Marty Johnson with his Nazi helmet on Laugh-In). RR
  18. I always go by the old edict of feed a fever and drown a cold - with bourbon. Doesn't necessarily help the cold, but you just don't care anymore. And the next day, the cold is the least of your problems. Hope this helps (get well soon). RR
  19. Do you have the helmet lock from the left (clutch) side? Mine fell off a couple of years ago and I never replaced it. I would need the special screw also. Once I get it (if it is available) I will need to see if I can get it re-keyed. Let me know. Thanks. RR
  20. Since my speedometer is off by about 10%, I always look at my Zumo for keeping track of my speed. I got into the habit when my speedo went out in my truck. RR
  21. Does anyone know a way to increase the maximum speed setting for the cruise? While riding out west, there were some roads that had a speed limit of 80 (Utah) and many other states with a limit of 75. My cruise will allow a maximum speed of 80. My wrist is still sore from holding the throttle at 85 to 90 MPH. RR
  22. Redneck, I just rode that route last Saturday. It is fantastic - other than having to push the little KLR's off to the side so you can get around. Just kidding - of course - I also have a KLR (also an '08 - red) that I love riding the twisties on. It is a really fun bike. Now, to have ridden the KLR out there and back would have put me in traction. Great pics. RR
  23. Deb, Yeah, I did. However, it was pretty late and I needed to get home for work on Wed. Don't worry, I have not forgotten you and Gary. My wife has talked about taking a long weekend to go somewhere and riding the Mississippi and coming over to visit you guys was my thought. I will give you plenty of warning since she usually needs lots of leadtime to clear the schedule. Hope to see you soon. RR / Jeff
  24. Last I checked - $229 RR
  25. My travel was 90% slab at 75 to 80 MPH. The other 10% are nice twisty roads at 30 to 50 MPH. Nothing extreme. Riding was 1up with full bags. RR
