2nd Gen Valve Adjustment
RedRider replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
(I suspect you know this and it was just a terminology typo - but just in case...) The thickness is stamped on the back. 25 mm is the desired diameter. RR -
Steve, Don't they have a law in California against such wanton killing of innocent creatures? Glad you are well on the way to mending. ATGATT (All the Gear, All The Time) should be a mantra. Bless the angels that help. Make sure you pay it forward - I'm sure you will. Ride safely. Let us know your health progress. RR

20K miles is pretty good for the rears - assuming how much you use them. I tend to use my rear brake more and only get about 10-15K out of a set. Make sure you check them every tire change (at least). You may want to flip them (inside to outside) at 10,000 miles. If you run them down and start hitting metal to metal on the disk, it is bad news. A new disk is not cheap. Glad it was successful for you. RR

Outstanding! Just don't use any of those military flares in the baking of your treat. RR (to others wondering about this reference - somewhat inside Cudahy humor - the Patrick Cudahy meat processing plant that has been a fixture in Cudahy for over 100 years had a huge fire July 5th that was started by a military flare. It was an accident from a couple of knobs shooting off fireworks and flares).

Help, wifes Virago is using a lot of oil
RedRider replied to raceman62race's topic in General Tech Talk
It just wants to run like a 2 stroke. RR -
We will try to park in front, but with the Balloon Festival in town, not sure there will be room. We are going to try to get on the road by 8:00 (we will aim at 7:45) which should get us to the Mineshaft by 9:00 easily. If we are early, we will save a spot for 2 or 3 extra at the table. An hour feed and back on the road home by 10:45 to start wrenching. In the famous words by Flounder "Boy... This is going to be great!!" RR

We look forward to having you all. We always welcome anyone from The Region (my mother is from Hobart - GO BRICKIES!). Softdrinks will be available and we should have at least 2 CarbTunes ready to go. Ride safely. RR

Ummm .. Yeah, Hartford. Sorry. Just found out today there is a balloon rally in Harford of Saturday. If we get going soon enough, we may be able to stop by the Hartford Airport early to watch the balloons for their morning shakeout. The actual rally is later in the day when we will be wrenching. However, I meet with a guy today that lives next to the airport and he advised they get going pretty early. However, we will be somewhat pressed for time in the morning with the need to get back here in time to meet the others coming in. RR

Area Motels: Comfort Inn & Suites 920/924-8800 Holiday Inn 920/923-1440 Microtel Inn and Suites 920/929-4000 Ramada Plaze Hotel 920/923-4000 All are easy to get to off Hwy 41. The Ramada is downtown FDL and would not be a good place with a trailer (you can leave the trailer at my house if you would like to stay at the Ramada). There are also a couple of nice B&Bs in town. Let me know if you would like me to check these for availability. RR

You friend is always welcome - even on Milwaukee Iron. Thanks for the warning about the beer allergy (that would really suck). I usually precook the sausages in beer, but will make sure to quanantine a few (and keep them well marked) if I precook them. Depending on what you like to drink, I may have it here are can get some. What is your beverage preferrance? RR

differential noise
RedRider replied to starrider60's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just an FYI - you do not need to pull the drive pumpkin to grease the pins. Just get the rear wheel off, remove the circlip, and lube away. Most members use Honda Moly60 paste for greasing the pins. Can be found at most Honda m'cycle dealers and car dealers. Do a search on here for the Honda car part number. Good luck. RR -
Good to know your appearance on the news isn't doing a 'perp walk' or with a number board across your chest. RR

Also to confirm the battery, jump it from a known good battery (like a running Saab or something). RR

My Dad is going down to the rally on his R1200GS. BMWMOA contracts with a company to set up the tents, supply them with cots and sleeping bags, etc. and then tear them down at the end of the rally. The participants can rent these tents for a reasonable (reasonable in BMW terms) fee. It's a nice perk to a bigger rally. I wouldn't be surprised if the same group does this at Star Days or the WingDing. RR

Look forward to meeting you and your wife this weekend. RR

05 RSTD Hard to push and pull
RedRider replied to piper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Holy Moly! I've been using Moly60 for a few years and have never seen that. You ought to check you pins too. Have you been fording creeks? RR -
Uh-oh - will I need to lock up my 15, 18, and 20 year old sons - all good looking and smart - just like Dad? RR
-
Additional ideas: Carb float adjustment Carb mixture adjustment I have had the same problem. Setting the carb mixture helped and mostly eliminated the problem. I believe an adjustment to the float levels will take care of it. RR

Will probly do a short breakfast run in the morning, but expect to be back and wrenching by 10 or so. RR

I don't feel any safer knowing that. RR

While in the Great Socialist Republic of Wisconsin - I don't. We are one of only 2 states that do not allow concealed carry under any circumstances. Illinois being the other. On the bright side, our State Attorney General has effectively decriminalized open carry by denying the LEOs to opportunity to press charges for this "offense". RR

2nd Gen Valve Adjustment
RedRider replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Is this the same tool needed for the 2nd Gen? The OBB fitment guideline did not include the 2nd Gen bikes. RR
