    New Arai Profile full face helmet with J&M headset installed. All came from the J&M elves at the North Pole. That this was the helmet that saved my cousin's life when he wrecked racing made Santa's decision to splurge much easier. Finally, a comfortable, and extremely safe, helmet that fits my oblong melon. Son #1 got lots of household items since he is moving out to his own apartment in a month or so. Son #2 got lots of clothes, video games, and various stuff. Son #3 got a Netbook (really nice, I may need to get one of those for taking on M'cycle trips). Daughter got clothes and various girl stuff. Wife got new towels for the whole house (about 12 full sets). Packed within the towels where 4 books on the history of they town we live in. This is what she really asked for. She also got an antique (1941) makeup stand/mirror to go with the antique desk I had refinished for her last year. Good Christmas for all. Still have 2 more Christmases to go. In-Laws on Sunday, my folks on New Year's Eve and Day. RR

    Doing it in the spring. We are heading from Chicago to Phoenix - mostly on the slab. Then a couple of days riding around the Red River Canyon and the southern Rockies, then home. Should be about 5 days total and about 5000 miles. Can't wait!!! RR

    What are you looking to do? Mow a couple of acres, do some light snow plowing? Or, mow 25 acres weekly, add a rotortiller, etc.? I have one of the cheaper JD Sabre lawn tractors with a 20 HP Briggs engine. I believe the L140 replaced the Sabre line a few years ago. Overall, I have been very pleased with it. I mow 3 acres about every other week. Periodically, pull a garden trailer with fire wood and stuff. Other than my daughter hitting a post and bending/braking some body work, it has been very reliable. The Briggs engine is a real workhorse (built in WI). Should be good for a lot of years. RR

    The law in WI is 8 yo minimum. The other issue is balance when they fall asleep. If you keep the rides short, I don't think it is an issue. However, kids have a tendency to fall asleep when they are moving (remember taking your crying child for a ride in the car/van to quiet them). Kids younger than about 8 do not have balance when they are asleep. Older than that and they do. That's why young children fall out of bed and older ones don't. Be very careful. This is an accident I know I would have immense difficulty living with. RR

    Yup - me too. Cold and snowy here. Working on my son's '66 Rambler to finish patching the floor boards so I can get it out of the heated garage. That's where MY truck is supposed to go. RR

    Rick Butler (a member here) makes and sells a set of bag bolts with knobs on them. Relatively inexpensive and eliminates this problem permanantly. Look in the Classifieds under 2nd Gen Parts and Acces. Definately worth the money. RR

    The built-in 40,000 BTU Lennox Pulse does just fine to keep the garage as toasty as needed. Now I just need to get all the darn projects done so I can get my truck in there so it is warm in the morning. One stall has the wife's toy ('72 Skylark convetible), one stall has my son's project car ('66 American Rambler), and the last stall has my son's band equipment (drumset, amps, guitars, etc.). Bikes are in the basement. However, all are warm. RR

    On the Venture - Change brake and clutch fluid Oil and filter change Rear end oil change Lube drive shaft splines Set float levels in carbs Check and adjust valve clearances Install handlebar risers Hopefully - Install gauge set in place of cassette Hopefully - Install Russell Day Long seat On the KLR650 - Change oil and filter Change out front sproket to a 16T Install handlebar risers Change out tires I also have a '66 Rambler I need to get on the road and repair the convertible top mechanism in a '72 Skylark. Paint the master bathroom, redo the kids bathroom, paint a couple of bedrooms, redo the laundry room, replace ceiling in finished basement. It's a good thing winter is long up here. RR

    Just throwing this out - if the neutral switch was messed up, would that somehow cause this? Can't see how it would, but that is the only switch in the tranny linkage that I can think of that will effect the running of the machine. RR

    Often alcohol (such as brandy) is used to create a fast, intense heat to sear items in a pan. The alcohol burns off completely. Wine is used to deglaze a pan to make delicious sauces. In the end, there is no alcohol left in the food and you would be really hard pressed to find any distict taste of a liquor (or wine or beer) in food properly prepared with it. Many things going into standard food preparation have considerable amounts of alcohol in them. Vanilla extract (used in making ice cream) is about 40% alcohol as is Almond extract (used in cherry pie). Bitters is 20 or 30% alcohol (use it in chili). Alcohol is a great solvent and is used to carry many flavors. In good cooking/dining, it is hard to avoid. You could never eat enough of any food to get any kind of buzz. That being said, if you make a request to not have any alcohol involved in the making of your meal, it should be honored. And ... Liver and Onions (properly prepared) is outstanding. RR / Chef Jeff

    This is the jack I have and am very pleased. It is $180 instead of $80 and you get what you pay for. The reviews are over 80% positive on this one as compared to the cheaper steel unit. I use it with the Carbon1 adapter (w/ legs). RR

    Spend the extra money and get the yellow aluminum (vs. the red) Sears jack. You won't be disappointed. RR

    I'm going to take a wild shot at this. It doesn't sound like a problem with the spring. Assuming they changed the fluid correctly and bled the system correctly, they may have filled the reserviour too full. What can happen is, as everything heats up, there is no room for the fluid to expand. Therefore, the clutch stays partially engaged. Once it cools down, the clutch works fine. It is something easy to check. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out. RR

    Yup, clutch. Certainly not unknown. It is also not generally covered under warranty (wear item). However, it is really easy to deal with yourself. Might be a good time to upgrade to a Barnett or PWC clutch kit. Not too expensive, fairly easy to do, and will eliminate a weak link in an otherwise strong chain. RR
