  1. Scooter Bob, Ride safely. If you are interested in a little seat comfort while still on the road, there is an IKEA store in Charlotte that sells sheep skins for about $25. Just be careful going into IKEA and make sure no one you know sees you go in. It's kind of a ... umm .... let's just say ... a chick place. You may want to take your chaps off before you go in. Take I-77 thru Charlotte and pick up I-85 going north to Greensboro/Winston-Salem. In a few miles, take exit 43 South (City Blvd). The map on the IKEA website has the store in the NE corner of that intersection. The IKEA stores are generally big, square, stand alone, and very blue. Hard to miss. They will have sheep skins in a big box. Website states they have 47 of the small skins in stock. Opens at 10:00. (704) 549-4532 It will make a nice improvement to your seating environment. You might find this 20 minute side trip will make a significant different for the balance of your trip. Enjoy the ride thru the Virginias. If you happen to stay in Beckly, WV, see if Char's is still open. They have/had a great fillet. The story was that the local Madam got out of the oldest profession and opened the second oldest. RR
  2. +1 on the electrical box cover. I generally carry 2 in case someone else doesn't have one. They are certainly cheap enough to give away. Also, they already have a hole to tie a line. RR
  3. Walter, Sent you a PM. Sorry for not responding earlier. RR
  4. Steal away guys. It's a good story. RR
  5. OK, this will need to be done quickly, if at all. I am sending in my seat for a Russell Day Long conversion. Apparently, they need more than just the pan. However, my seat has the Butt Butler mod done to it. It would be a shame to send this nicely modified seat to be converted if someone locally would like it in exchange for a standard (non-pillow top) seat. Mine is studded, yours would not need to be. This would be a straight up exchange - no money involved. I will try to get some pics posted tonight. However, it is in perfect shape - no cuts or tears and both studs are in good shape. If there is anybody in the central WI area that would like to exchange, let me know. I need to get a seat sent out to Russell early next week - latest. For those that don't know, the Butt Butler modification is wonderfully comfortable. It takes a 200 mpd (mile per day) seat and makes it a 400+ mpd seat. However, I need a 1000 mpd seat and it just doesn't quite get there. My phone number is in my profile. RR
  6. Scooter wakes up next to Mad Dog.... Mad Dog -- "Those aren't pillows!!!" Scooter -- "Oh, Oh, .... How 'bout them Packers!!" RR
  7. Charlie, You apparently needed to upgrade your cruise control. The little yellow O-ring didn't quite cut it. Congrats on the new scoot. RR
  8. Jeff, Don't forget to check with your insurance dude once you get the collector plates. If it is anything like cars, the insurance goes to almost nothing. With my '72 Buick, insurance is something like $70 per year. RR
  9. I've got one if you would like. I am upgrading to the PCW spring and do not need the old one. It's not quite new, but only a couple of years old. Let me know if you would like it and I can mail it out to you or pass it along to anyone heading to the MD from WI (I assume you will be there since it is in your backyard). RR
  10. I was trying to find one also. Pinwall Cycle Products has a couple on EBay. $89 +$16 S&H. And since this may be your first Venture, the seat from years '99 to current will fit. There are two types of OEM seat - standard and Pillow Top. The 2000 came with the standard seat. Later models had the pillow top. Either will fit, but the standard will match the balance of the upholstery. Good luck finding a seat. And congrats on the new bike. You have the fastest year and color. RR
  11. It actually might be. Barrabo, WI is claimed to be 'Circus Town USA' and is just northwest of Madison. Glad to hear Bob made it down to you. It was kind of (d)icey yesterday. Thanks for the report. RR
  12. Just slip on the ice tires and go for it. Travel safely. RR
  13. PM sent. Should work out perfectly. Thanks, RR
  14. If I need to buy one it would be interesting if I could find a seat that was less than pristine. I sent an email to Pinwall asking if they have a lightly abused seat they would be willing to part with. All I need is the seat pan. Ideally, I would like to find someone who has purchased an aftermarket seat and has their stock seat just sitting around gathering dust. I will make sure the dust gets blown off; whether borrowed, traded, or bought. RR
  15. Called today to order my Russell Day Long seat for the RSV and was told the build date is April 23rd!!!! And it will take 2 to 3 weeks to get it built!!!! The RDL seat is built on the OEM seat pan so my bike would be without the seat until it gets back. This creates a big problem. I have a trip scheduled for May 1st and it won't be done by then. I should have ordered this seat a month ago, but...... Anyhooo, I was wondering if anyone had a stock seat they are not using that I could borrow, trade, or buy. If you would like to trade, I will send in your seat for the RDL conversion and then send you my Butt Butler modified, OEM (non-PillowTop), studded seat once the RDL is done. For the borrow, I will send in my seat and use yours for the May ride. Once the RDL shows up, I will send your seat back to you. Would have it back to you by mid-May. Of course, I will cover shipping (or come get it from you if you happen to be in WI). Thanks, RR
  16. OK, from a Dad that thinks this is cool - WEAR YOUR HELMET!!! Want to see pics. RR
  17. I mounted mine with sticky backed velcro on the bottom side of the faring. Right under the cruise control on/off switch and above the triple tree nut. Looks like OEM. Looking for a picture, but I can't find it. Found it on my work computer this morning. RR
  18. Perhaps a small cat. I had a mouse/chipmonk/small critter get into my muffler and store some deer corn I had in the garage. When I fired it up in the spring, the corn all shot out. It was quite a surprise. Glad it wasn't popcorn. RR
  19. Best weight loss program - divorce!! Didn't say it was a good program, just very effective. Lost 50+ lbs in about 4 months. Now that I have upgraded to Wife 2.0 for 6 years, gained it all back plus a few. Certainly don't want to go thru that diet program again though. RR
  20. Dan, I assume you brought some back for a WI maintenance day? RR
  21. You may want to check out the J&M website. They sell helmets there also. For the price you showed for the Nolan, you can get a 2 yo Aria with the headset installed. At 2 yo, the Aria warranty is the same as buying brand new. Their warranty is 5 yrs from purchase or 7 yrs from manufacture. Not sure if they have Nolans though. Google J&M for their site. RR
  22. I've got 70,000 miles and still going strong. Must have been built on a Wednesday. RR
  23. Does anyone find it interesting that Drew Brees played college ball at Purdue (just north-west of Indy) and Payton Manning grew up in New Orleans? RR
  24. Deb and Gary, +1 on the Red River and Nada Tunnel. Make sure to stop by the Natural Bridge State Park while you are in the area. Visit Mammoth Cave. Really neat. Took a weekend trip thru this area with my Mother a couple of years ago. It was a great time. FWIW: You may want to check on Bed and Breakfasts instead of a hotel. They often cost about the same and you get a better breakfast out of it. You can also get some nice local info. Several of them in the area. Just Google 'Bed and Breakfast Kentucky'. Have a great time. I need to get over to visit you this summer. RR
  25. Beav, I would reuse these calipers as is. You may want to run a little emery cloth around it to clean 'em up a little, but they look pretty good. What condition are the boots in? RR
