  1. Rear brakes not fitting right? Wheel rubbing on the swing arm? Yup, many of us have done that - ONCE. RR
  2. If, I mean, when you get one, I recommend getting the model with the legs. Makes it VERY steady and you can pull the jack out of the way. Spring for the couple extra bucks and you won't regret it. RR
  3. Bill, I have not had any luck with hardware stores cutting keys for anything other than home doors. Go to a locksmith to have them cut. Their equipment is generally newer/better maintained/sharper/etc. They have to keep them that way since it is their livelyhood. Have had a couple of motorcycle keys made from 2 different hardware stores (one of which I use regularly and we know each other by first name) and none of them worked. Went to the local locksmith and have never had a key not work. First step when a new bike comes into the herd is to get a couple of new keys made by a locksmith. Mine usually has the blanks too. Good luck. RR
  4. I have read several threads on here and elsewhere about needing a helmet to fit an egghead/roundhead/etc. Ran across this page that lists the ovality (don't really know if that's a word) of various helmet brands and types. http://tinyurl.com/yfy6log RR
  5. The best show in Las Vegas is ... oh wait, are you planning on taking your wife? RR
  6. It was a brand new 883 Sportster. The luggage wasn't so new. RR
  7. Met this guy at Majove Desert National Preserve. He is from Wisconsin and has been on the road for a year and a half. Turn 65, retired, and had "a really bad year". Since he was living on Social Security, he figured he could either live in a crappy apartment and watch the snow pile up, or he could make bike payments and ride. He's my new hero. RR
  8. The easiest I have found to do what you are asking is Microsoft Streets and Trips. About $50. You can apply trip options to your routing including Fuel Consumption. You input your City and Highway MPGs, tank capcity, and check a box. It will include refuel points in your driving directions. RR
  9. You should ask him if he wants to make some $$ and have him come to Freebirds MD (with permission from Don, of course). Looks great. RR
  10. Like a U-joint? RR
  11. A point of clarification - Loctite BLUE. +1 on the shift lever bolt. Take that out, add a couple of drops of Loctite BLUE and put it back in. If not done in your garage, it will be done on the side of the road (at 2:00 in the morning, in the rain, with your significant other whining about not being at the hotel yet). RR
  12. That's roughly how mine is mounted (behind a Zumo550). I bent up an old license plate rather than this fancy, schmancy store bought new fangled thing-a-ma-bob. Now get off my lawn!! (Just releasing my inner crumugin). Found a picture. RR
  13. Sure, they taste like chicken. RR
  14. How is it being linked to the sound system? Thru a Zumo? Thru a special in dash radio? RR Depending on the answer I may have some interesting ideas (and pictures to boot).
  15. A Lucas Electric part going bad???? Say it isn't so.... Never heard of that happening..... (Owned a couple of MGs and a Jaguar - Lucas Electric is the prince of darkness). RR
  16. Jonas, The lousy music quality of the Bluetooth from Zumo to headset may be from the Zumo (assuming 550) being a mono-Bluetooth only. However, if your GPS is one of the newer Zumo 665 units, they have stereo Bluetooth. J&M has released a stereo bluetooth headset that is getting pretty decent reviews. RR
  17. The change out the clutch spring will take about 30 minutes - if you need to spend 15 minutes of that time cleaning the old gasket off. You don't even need to drain the oil. Just put it on the side stand, pop the cover off, remove the clutch plate bolts, remove the old clutch spring and replace with new clutch spring, reassemble with new gasket, ride. RR

    Scam????

Just tell him it will take 3 weeks to make sure all the money has cleared the banking system. It can take up to 2 weeks for a check to be cleared and I assume it will be the same for PP. He will likely run away like a little girl. RR
  19. Boomer, I think your pygmies are moonlighting. Found this van at the Grand Canyon a couple of weeks ago. RR
  20. Chris, Welcome to the family/asylum. We look forward to sharing knowledge and experience with and from you. If you have the willingness to change out a stator, there are likely a bunch of other stuff you are doing with your Venture that we would enjoy knowing about. You've got to have someplace for all those extra electrons to go (lights, cameras, and action). If not, we have lots of expertise in spending your money on fun farkles that can suck up the amps. (I know my motorcycle budget was in a lot better shape before joining the VR family.) You will find this forum is very different than most (at least I have). There is a community here that is beyond anything I have found in the innerweby world (or even in meat space). We support and defend our members just as we will support and defend you as a member of this family. Your apology was heartfelt and gladly accepted by all. I have learned a great deal in here on how to work with and on these machines. I have also made some good friends - both close to home and far away. Interestingly, you will find many members that are still quite active here even though they have moved away from the Venture to another manufacturer - or even given up riding. This is all about community. Also, in your travels, I would encourage you to take advantage of the VR Assistance listing. We are there to help if difficulties arise on the road and/or to share a DQ, coffee, or couch (well, maybe not share the couch, but let you use one:smile5:). We welcome you as a member of this great group. Look forward to meeting you at one of the gatherings and sharing a cold one with you. Just stay away from that Boomer guy - his pygmies are trouble. RR
  21. No, never. I run at recommended pressure all the time. If the square off starts to bother me, I will replace the tire (or tyre as our friend from OK calls it - durn Canuck/European spelling - I can't even speel our Americanized version of this language) And yes, speel was on purpose. RR
  22. No, that is a happy fact. That means you got to ride a lot . (But I understand what you meant by your statement and agree). RR
  23. Buddy, Don't mean to make this into a 'what tire/oil/toilet paper should we use' thread. But my experience with an E3 has been fantastic. I need to confirm the exact mileage, but I have about 14-15000 miles on my E3 and it is still covering Lincoln's head. Unfortunately, it is kind of squared off now since a lot of that mileage was done on the superslab. Will need to go ride on the sides a while once this d*#m snow goes away. RR
  24. Keith, The shock pump will fill the tire, but it will take all day, at least. The small compressor from Walmart is about $20 and works fine. Slime also has one that is pretty cost effective. HOWEVER, don't expect to run these compressors from the outlet in the fairing. These compressors pull about 8 amps and it will blow the fuse immediately (don't ask me how I know). The Walmart compressor has a connector that mates to the BatteryTender lead currently installed on my bike. The BT lead is fused to 10A and directly hooks to the battery. Also, most of the compressors come with clips that will allow you to connect it directly to the battery, but you will need to pull off seat. The spark plug type inflator won't work too well on these bikes since it is difficult to remove a plug without taking off a bunch of other stuff. Stick with the Walmart/Slime compressor. RR
  25. The clutch upgrade is really easy. Don't even need to drain the oil. A set of mechanics picks makes it even easier. Should have it all with me (including the torque wrench). RR
