  1. When you mention plugging it into the Aux line, did you do that under the faring or into the jack next to the cassette? RR
  2. Yup, Great road.
  3. Welcome to the family. First rule. We need pictures of your new bike. Second suggested rule, listen to V7Goose. I am 6'4" and ride iron butt rides with the Venture. Offset Longhorn highway pegs allow you to stretch out in comfort. You may find handlebar risers will also add to your riding pleasure. +1 on the Dunlop Elite3 tires. Synthetic vs. Dino oil? See how your clutch works with each. Mine didn't seem to like syn so I've been running Dino. 130000 miles and running great. RR
  4. Both NH and Vermont have great roads throughout. Hwy 17 in the Green Mountains of VT has a view at the top that is unbelievable. RR
  5. My favorite is the road climbing Mt. Washington in NH. Done it twice. Once with a friend and my Dad, second time with my wife on back. She was terrified. Mostly paved, but a long section is gravel. And no guardrails. Pics at the top: RR
  6. Put a full can of Seafoam in a tank of gas and run it out. Then ride it like you stole it. Glad to have you back. RR
  7. Where's the one for the white spy?
  8. Are you doing this as a beta site? Or is it something proven with the VMax's? Really interesting option if it is proven to work and doesn't cost more than some of these old washing machines (1st Gens). Please keep us up to date on your progress. RR
  9. Strangely enough, I didn't take any pictures during this trip. Took video of my son's matches, but they aren't really very pleasant to watch. I certainly should have stopped while in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Beautiful sight of a grass plain on the right with the moon above the horizon, and more grass plain on the left with a sunset. Happened to be in the middle of a bunch of trucks at the time and pulling over might have been treacherous. Sorry. RR
  10. Got back last night about 7 from a quick round trip to Dallas. 2434 miles and the bike ran flawlessly, as always. I really love my Venture. Weather was perfect the whole way. Timed my return to hit lunch at Smokey D's BBQ in Des Moines. Best brisket evah!!! Son didn't do so well at Sr. Nationals. First draw was against the eventual winner, 2nd match against the guy that took 3rd. 22 players total in his weight class. All black belts and many with international experience. He fought well, just couldn't get the throws. Have a nice bug patina to get me through the rest of the riding season. RR
  11. Got the Venture polished up, aux tank mounted, hydration system mounted, XM turned on, and the maps on the Zumo's updated. Ready to roll. Leaving after work tomorrow and heading to Dallas, back on Sunday. My son #3 is competing in Judo Senior Nationals Saturday. This will be the first time watching him live at a national/international competition (some are webcast). A quick 2200 miles or so to get the juices flowing. Time to go pack. RR
  12. Congratulations. Welcome to the club #60622 . RR IBA 33089
  13. I am looking for a passenger foot rest board - right (throttle) side - for a project. Don't care if it is scratched up or if the rubber piece is missing. Am going to build a mount for a hydration system. Don't trust the straps I have used previously. Lemme know. Thanks. RR
  14. I use a tank bag when travelling. Just mount it over the bib. Only use the bib if day riding. RR
  15. Hope you bought the seller a drink first. You got a great deal. Welcome. RR
  16. What bike are you referring to? All Ventures and RSTDs are carburated and don't have ignition maps. That is for fuel injection. I could be wrong here - usually my wife will stop by to let me know - but I don't think so. RR EDIT: I now see in the title Ignitech. Read that originally as Ignition. Therefore, I am likely wrong.
  17. Not unless you REALLY ride the clutch often. Although, it is a good practice to measure both the frictions and the steels for thickness when you work on your clutch. RR
  18. The H4 "dual" beam HID is actually a single bulb with a small actuator in the back. The actuator moves the bulb to change the focal length for high beams. Don't use it with a modulator. RR
  19. Search for replacing the points in the OEM pump. Easy and cheap. As I have a tendency to take trips far from home, I carry a spare fuel pump with me. However, with 130k+ on the bike, the original pump has never failed. Inspected the points and they look brand new. Got a lucky one I guess. RR
  20. We have identified your problem. RR
  21. I suggest putting a 10 second delay relay on the HID. When you turn on the key, the light turns on. Hit the starter, and the voltage feeding the igniter goes to the threshold of acceptable. Sometimes below. This turns the HID light off and then immediately restarts it. Not good for the longevity of the bulb. In the more expensive HID units, this isn't as much of a problem. The inexpensive units from China (sold by Canadian Customized Cruisers and others) will have this difficulty. FYI - I have a cheap CCC HID. It has lasted several years and many 10s of thousands of miles with the 10 second delay relay. The bulb would last about 1/2 a year before installing the time delay. As an alternative, install a manual on/off switch for the headlight. Just make sure it is off when you start the bike. RR
  22. The Zumo 550 is a discontinued product by Garmin. You can find good used units out there, but Garmin will not repair if damaged. Garmin has moved to the Zumo 600/650 for new purchase. RR
  23. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?515-Rear-Wheel-Removal Try this. Couple of hints to make it easier: 1: A 10mm (IIRC) Allen wrench fits into the throttle side end of the axle. This allows you to turn and loosen it up. 2: Anti-Seize is your friend. Coat the axle with A-S before reinstalling. It will make your removal much easier next time. DO NOT GET ANTI-SEIZE ON THE THREADS. The torque specification for the axle nut is for dry threads. If you get A-S on the threads, you will severely over-tighten the nut. RR
  24. The Venture could have had a chance if the rider remembered the rev limiter. He shifted to 4th every time. No need. Top speed showed to be about 90-95 mph. We can do that in 3rd - and get there quicker. However, it looked like they were having a great time. Cool video. RR
  25. I got the Hagon one for mine and have been pleased. Heard nothing but good things about the Works shock though. The couple hundred dollar difference made the decision for me. RR
