  1. I just realized you have a VR. The link is for a Gen 2 Venture. I suspect they are the same, but dig around on the Bike Bandit site and they will provide the answer. Good luck. RR
  2. http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/oem_schematic_view~schem_dept_id~400972~section_dept_id~1~section_dept_name~OEM+%28Stock%29+Parts~dept_type_id~2~model_dept_year~2000~model_dept_mfr~Yamaha~model_dept_id~392341~model_dept_name~ROYAL+STAR+VENTURE+%2F+XVZ13TFM.asp Item number 17 - $18.81 each. RR
  3. Southwest MotoTires carries most. I just got some Avons (put them on today - still haven't ridden them yet) and they were current manufacturing date (late 06 date code). I believe their website is www.swmototires.com. Best price around and shipping is free if you buy two tires. They do carry Dunlops. RR
  4. Other than burning a little oil, how does the bike run? Does everything work? Let me know, I might be interested. RR
  5. Rich, It is difficult, but can be done. If you have a MC jack, lift it up. This allows you to get to the proper angle to get your hand in there. I was never able to do it on the ground, but tried it while the bike was up (changing to levelling links). Low and behold, I could reach the light from the left side. I have big hands (XXL gloves), but was still able to fit. Wasn't easy, but very doable. Good luck. RR
  6. Find someone with a CB and see if you can broadcast. If someone can hear you over the CB, your mics are working. RR
  7. Thanks Goose. That is what I thought was to be done, but now I know for sure. Pics are worth a ... Yeah, Yeah, it's a cliche'. RR
  8. Goose, Do you, or anyone else, have a pic of how to vent the tank neck? RR
  9. I HAVE vented my tank neck, which allows me to fill it completely without too much fuss, and I think it is completely understandable why this is necessary. Yamahaha would rather play it safe and have the tank seem full at 5.5 gallons that risk dealing with the problems from lazy and inattentive owners spilling fuel when they don't shut the gas off soon enough during fueling. Anyway, the RSV tank DOES indeed hold six gallons, and many here have reported in other threads that they have come close to that on some fill ups. Goose Goose, Do you, or anyone else, have a pic of what you do to 'vent' the tank neck? RR
  10. Did my test today and found I was able to get 211 miles from a tank of gas. Filled it up to the neck and ran it until it was dry. Went to reserve at about 165 miles. Once out of gas, I put in a gallon from a gas can and drove about 5 miles to a gas station. Put in 4.95 gallons. Works out to about 37 miles to the gallon. This was about 1/2 back road / small town and 1/2 superslab at 70 mph. 3 weeks, 5 days to launch. Not that I'm counting. RR
  11. You will need to add a couple of 2x4 blocks or hockey pucks. Then it should work. I suggest getting a LarryLift (CarbonOne makes a lift adapter that works great. Very sturdy and makes for an easy and stable lifting platform). Check in the VR Classifieds for the lift adapter. Worth every penny. RR
  12. Kbay, Welcome to the Venturerider fanily. You will really enjoy your new bike. And yes, your post was in the right place (we are not too terribly strict about rules - other than: always keep it on the G side of PG, no disparaging comments about others, etc.) However, there is one cardinal rule: when you have any thing new - a bike, an accessory, a dog, a trailer, etc. - you MUST POST PICTURES!!! We all want to see your new baby. You will find tons of great information about your new scoot in here. And tons of ways to spend your disposible income on accessories and safety chrome. OK, all - start sending Kbay all the thing he needs to review, add on, remove, etc. to his Venture. I will start: Leveling links - great for improving low speed handling. Again, welcome. RR PS, My brother has a Honda Shadow Aero - very nice ride.
  13. WARNING --- WARNING --- WARNING (assuming it hasn't changed in the last 15 years) HAMILTON, AL is in a dry county - and is surrounded by dry counties. It is 60 miles to the nearest beer!!! END OF WARNING RR
  14. Sell them both and upgrade to a Gen 2!!! hee, hee RR
  15. Sounds like another job for ......SEAFOAM !!! RR
  16. Us 2nd Gen riders need that high speed course just to leard to control the powerful capabilities of our machines. Do they have any courses that go downhill? RR
  17. I am working on a bike for my son to learn on (Kawa Vulcan 750). He will NOT even get on the bike without taking the riding course. Now, part of that is because until I get the Kawa put together, my RSV is the only bike available for him to learn on. NOT going to happen. I will let him learn on the 125cc bike provided by the course, then graduate to the Kawa, then maybe, just maybe, he can ride my baby - once. I learned a lot when I took the course as a new rider. The ERC was enlightening also. I will take that again in a couple of years - hopefully with my son. Mandated, no. You just can't legislate against stupid (not taking it as a new rider). RR
  18. You can change the bulb without splitting the fairing by going into the rear of the fairing from the left (clutch lever) side. It is significantly easier to do if you have a lift since it makes the path easier for your hand. If you have a son/daughter with a little bit of grip strength, they can help. It is kind of a tight fit for your hand. It is a quarter turn CCW to remove. Good luck. RR
  19. You can get gaiters from several sources. I just saw some from Kyramun (sp?) that were on sale for about $30. They go over the boots and up to the knee. Haven't used them before, but they look like they would work well. RR
  20. Rather than rotate tires, I just run in reverse for the second half of the riding season. RR
  21. Dawg, You may be abnormal, but I couldn't have gotten in there without removing the reed valves. RR
  22. I was looking for a way to better understand my wife at 80mph. Nothing helped. Buddy, have her talk slower! RR
  23. David, You will want some grease handy to grease the bearings in the suspension link (it will be obvious what this is). Also, a 2x4 with your wife to lift the rear wheel and make it easier to align the bolts for reinstallation. Takes about 20 minutes and is an easy job. Good call in getting the CarbonOne lift adapter. RR
  24. I agree on this being a great class. Took it twice on consecutive days - once by myself and once with my bride on the back. That was a challenge. Laid the bike down once doing the bike with rider. Only on my way home did I realize my clutch was burned up. Will probably take it again next summer. Should be interesting to see how different it will be with a good clutch and levelling links. RR
  25. Mine just came in - haven't installed yet. Also got a new rear rotor. Will advise.
