If you drive fast enough, you don't need to worry about what is behind you. RR

For those of us ..um .... bigger guys, lowering is not a good option. The leveling links raise the back end and it is great. Certainly don't want anything lower. The 'bigness' of the RSV is what sold me on it in the first place. Glad it worked for you. It can be a beast to handle at slow speed without some modification. RR

[They are great bikes and I have no problem controlling the bike at low speeds. Unless she stands up in the seat and dances. Dang, doing that drove me to make her my wife!!! RR

I just got back last night from a weekend trip with my Mom. Submitting pics in the hope you might let one or two squeeze under the line. If not, enjoy the pics. RR

No, you heard wrong. This bike is wonderful for carrying passengers. Just as always, they need to hold still and not try to do the leaning for you. Your wife will love the ride. Just remember, this is a big, fairly top heavy bike. Adding your wife, no matter how petite, will make it more top heavy. Be careful when you stop because once it starts going over, you will need to be really strong to bring it back. I just got back from a weekend trip with my mother as a passenger. It was her first time riding. She loved it. Welcome to the family. We hope to meet you at some of the rallies/gatherings/M&Es. RR

My Sick 2nd Gen (long overdue update)
RedRider replied to Cerviperus's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I will be very curious to see what caused your fuel smell problem. My ride is experiencing the same thing, except no decrease in performance. It has been running great, just smells like gas - especially when decelling, and after a fill up. Hope it is just the vent tubes. Haven't look into it yet - hopefully this weekend. Good luck with your dealer. It sounds like you have a decent one to deal with. RR -
I still use my cassette Walkman. Figured I needed to keep the cassettes handy so I can listen to them in our Venture!! RR

Ride around the Smokey Mountains, Tail of the Dragon, etc. I suggest staying one night at Iron Horse Lodge (Google it). It is a great place to stay. You could also stay in the Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park. However, the ammenities are better at the Iron Horse Lodge. These are all near the end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Have a great trip. RR

I have both a 10 ft. utility trailer, pull behind motorcycle trailer, and a boat trailer (w/ 17 ft boat). There are no titles or tags for any of them. You will need a signed bill of sale to get things passed the border. When running thru Canada, I didn't have any difficulty getting the trailer thru either way. However, I was just vacationing and not bringing back in something new. Contact your local Dept. of Motor Vehicles and see what the requirements are. Good Luck. RR

Not true about the old stock at Walmart and Sams Club. They buy the new stuff just like everyone else. If manufacturers had enough old stock to keep the pipeline full at Walmart, they would go out of business. RR

Had this same issue and the bolt was messed up enough so I couldn't tighten it or take it out. It would move about 3/4 of a turn and lock up in both directions. Ended up drilling it out and then attempted to retap. Took out too much material to retap. Put in a Helicoil and all is good to go. I now double check to see they are all tight (and they all have blue Loctite on them). RR

Is there a carb rebuld kit for the 2nd Gen? Looking like it might be nice to clean up the carbs and replace the gaskets/O-rings. Would like a kit so I don't forget anything. RR

You have a smart Dad. Thank him for loving you enough to say 'No' when it needed to be said. Not enough of that going around today. RR

My son was/is 18 and just starting to ride. He took the motorcycle safety course this summer and I got him an older Yama Virago to ride around on. He is very responsible and I am pretty comfortable with his decision to ride. Reading stories like that kid on the crotch rocket keep me awake at night. I don't know if I could forgive myself for passing along a passion that ultimately took one of my kid's life. However, life is a risk and you can't keep them locked up safely forever. So, just try to make it as safe as you can and pray. RR

One more ride - then the bike gets put away and the guns come out. Taking my mother to southern KY for some riding this weekend. Can't wait. Weather looks great - low 70s and sunny. RR

At least here in WI, you have 3 days to get tags as long as you have a signed title or bill of sale. My insurance also gives me 3 days after a purchase to get a vehicle listed. You might want to cut the kid some slack. I know when I was 18 or 19, it was a new and somewhat scary thing to buy a big ticket item. He is having to explore all the logistics we now take for granted. Also, he is likely concerned about being taken advantage of because he has no experience while the seller does. Hope everything works out for the best of everyone. However, after saying all this, if a kid is young enough to be intimidated with the logistics of buying a bike - the VMax is not the bike to be buying!! WAY too much power. RR

There are places that customize seats for the GW that allow taller folks to sit comfortable. A friend had this done. He is a full 7' (played center for Tulane) and the seat allowed him to sit comfortably. RR

I endeared myself to my future Grandmother-in-Law by making a rhubarb pie from scratch while visiting over Thanksgiving. It is, and always has been, my favorite pie. Cut the sugar in half to make it good and tart. Rhubarb is easy to grow. Once you get it going, it is like a weed and you can't kill it. Lasts most of the summer. You can usually find it at local farmer's markets. Enjoy!! RR

Steve, That is a beautiful bike. Enjoy. Looks like this weekend is going to provide great weather to break in the new sled. Congrates. RR

Dang, and I just bought one last weekend that wasn't that nice. However, I only paid $850 and it was a 750 instead of a 900. Very nice bike. Love the pipes. RR

EagleEye is from Sauk City. Perhaps he meet someone and couldn't keep his clothes on. However, what kind of tramp would he be seeing at a HD dealership? Steve, raise your standards!! RR
