I had it happen today on the way to the WI M&E. An 18 wheeler decided at the last minute he wanted to take an entrance ramp I had already moved into. I had stayed back just in case and broke (braked) hard and came to a stop. The rear locked up and was just a little squirrelly, no big deal. I also used the front brake. The 18 wheeler saw me also and stopped so there wasn't much opportunity for a collision. In the end, nothing bad happened. In defense of the 18 wheeler, there was construction barrels all around and it wasn't very well marked. This was also a turn back onto a main road after a detour. A gentle wave once I passed him thanking him for seeing me and stopping when he quickly turned onto the entrance ramp. I felt the rear locked up easier than it should have. ABS would be really nice ('10 model??). RR

That's OK, some of us don't read real fast either. RR

There must some changes in the offing. The silence is telling. Until this year, you didn't hear anything about the Kawa Concourse, and now every magazine and website is discussing the new Concourse14. Same thing with the Kawa Voyager - although they haven't done anything new for it and it still is getting no notice. Hopefully, with the release of the new VMax motor they will port the engineering over to the Venture and WOW us all in 2010. At least by then, I might be able to afford a new bike. I just hope all my accessories will fit on the new Venture!! RR

Congratulations on quitting!! I quit chewing after 25 years and it was absolute hell for a couple of months. Then just inconvenient for a couple of months. Now it only bothers me when I drink. I use a cigar as a crutch. The tobacco is enjoyable, but it makes me stink so badly that I know I won't do it on a regular basis. Your life insurance rates will go down substantially also. Good luck. Just think of all the chrome you can buy with the freed up money. RR

This month's Road Runner Magazine - Great!
RedRider replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
Yup, noticed this also. It is a great magazine that deals with motorcycle touring. You won't get the usual 'Ducati' reference in every artical (ie. CycleWorld). I noticed the comment in the previous Victory Vision article reference left out the Venture. I thought it was left out since it was a little long in the tooth, not well promoted by Yamaha, and not very common among the general biking population. I was pleased to see she (the editor is a woman - Christa Neuhauser) actually included the Venture in the original cut of the article. RR -
Heated gloves are wonderful. Got a set from Warm&Safe (www.warmnsafe.com) along with a jacket liner and the controls. No more cold hands or body. As for the passenger, unless they are riding with you all the time, go to WalMart or your local hunting supply store and get some chemical hand warmers. They are about $1 a set and last 7 to 10 hours (depending on which ones you get). They work as well on the bike as they do in the tree stand. You can get a lot of chemical hand warmers for the cost of heated grips. I carry 3 or 4 sets on my bike all the time (in case I get caught without my toasty elec gloves). RR

I would be in for several. Great idea. Will they still work if they are given to folks that don't ride the premier bikes? Specifically, will they work on BMWs, Hondas, and HDs? RR

1070 miles in 19.5 hours. Had to deal with rain, cold, sun, heat, and rain again. Fond du Lac, WI to Charleston, SC. IB papers in progress. First plan option was discussed this weekend for doing a '1500 miles in 24 hours' run. RR

Touch Up Paint for MM 2000 Models

Dang, too bad it wasn't the faster, red 2000 color. I am likely painting my trailer this winter and could have taken it off your hands. How well did the ColorRite paint match? RR -
If you are looking for a GPS that will go on both a bike and a cage, you can't go wrong with the Garmin Zumo 550. It is a little higher in the price range, but it comes with both mounts and appropriate wiring. It also has a built-in MP3 player. Very nice. RR

For those of us ..um .... bigger guys, lowering is not a good option. The leveling links raise the back end and it is great. Certainly don't want anything lower. The 'bigness' of the RSV is what sold me on it in the first place. Glad it worked for you. It can be a beast to handle at slow speed without some modification. RR

[They are great bikes and I have no problem controlling the bike at low speeds. Unless she stands up in the seat and dances. Dang, doing that drove me to make her my wife!!! RR

I just got back last night from a weekend trip with my Mom. Submitting pics in the hope you might let one or two squeeze under the line. If not, enjoy the pics. RR

No, you heard wrong. This bike is wonderful for carrying passengers. Just as always, they need to hold still and not try to do the leaning for you. Your wife will love the ride. Just remember, this is a big, fairly top heavy bike. Adding your wife, no matter how petite, will make it more top heavy. Be careful when you stop because once it starts going over, you will need to be really strong to bring it back. I just got back from a weekend trip with my mother as a passenger. It was her first time riding. She loved it. Welcome to the family. We hope to meet you at some of the rallies/gatherings/M&Es. RR

My Sick 2nd Gen (long overdue update)
RedRider replied to Cerviperus's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I will be very curious to see what caused your fuel smell problem. My ride is experiencing the same thing, except no decrease in performance. It has been running great, just smells like gas - especially when decelling, and after a fill up. Hope it is just the vent tubes. Haven't look into it yet - hopefully this weekend. Good luck with your dealer. It sounds like you have a decent one to deal with. RR -
I still use my cassette Walkman. Figured I needed to keep the cassettes handy so I can listen to them in our Venture!! RR

Ride around the Smokey Mountains, Tail of the Dragon, etc. I suggest staying one night at Iron Horse Lodge (Google it). It is a great place to stay. You could also stay in the Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park. However, the ammenities are better at the Iron Horse Lodge. These are all near the end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Have a great trip. RR

I have both a 10 ft. utility trailer, pull behind motorcycle trailer, and a boat trailer (w/ 17 ft boat). There are no titles or tags for any of them. You will need a signed bill of sale to get things passed the border. When running thru Canada, I didn't have any difficulty getting the trailer thru either way. However, I was just vacationing and not bringing back in something new. Contact your local Dept. of Motor Vehicles and see what the requirements are. Good Luck. RR
