  1. Use the nylon insert nuts. You still will need to use a tool to remove it, but it won't vibrate off. They are also referred to as airplane nuts. RR
  2. Kurt, It was -17F in WI today. Was this just a couple of days ago when it was only 20F? Holy Cow - PBS really must have been hitting you hard. (Parked Bike Syndrome). This is still snowmobile riding time. We have been buried in snow since Thanksgiving. You are a little south of us though. Glad you walked away - OK, gimped away. Good luck in getting your bike beautiful again. RR
  3. To toss out an alternative - Airhawk seat pad. About $150 but is transferable to another bike and is incredibly comfortable. Just a thought. RR
  4. That is the correct pump and a good price too. When I bought mine last year the best price was from the HD dealer - about $45. RR
  5. PM'd you. RR
  6. You don't need to rejet for the K&N filters. The best thing to start with is a good carb syncronization. Put out the feelers for someone in you area who has a Morgan Carbtune. In exchange for beer, you can probably get your carbs sync'd. RR
  7. I know exactly what that ailment is. My older brother had it when he was 20ish. Had it cut out as it wouldn't heal on its own. Once he had it fixed, he was a perfect a**hole. Just kidding, of course. My brother is also my best friend (even though he doesn't ride). Hope you get better soon. However, I don't have much sympathy for "not riding for 10 days". I haven't ridden since before Thanksgiving and there is about 15 inches of snow on the ground. We are supposed to get 6 to 12 more on Sunday. AAARRRGGG!!! RR
  8. I've had Bubs on mine since I bought it in 2002 - no rejetting. Runs great with no fouling of the plugs. Don't waste your time or your money on rejetting. There are so many other items you can waste your money on. RR
  9. +1 on the advrider.com reference. Be careful if you start reading some of the ride reports. They will consume you and your time. RR
  10. Am going nuts!!! We got 10" of snow yesterday, it was -4F this morning, we are to get 8 to 13" on Sunday, AAARRGGHH!!! I you are doing the Superior Circle Tour this summer, call me. I may, or may not be able to join you, but it is a great ride. Did it 2 years ago and I can give you some pointers on where to stop and where not to. Anyway about it, you can stop by on the way for a rest if you would like. We are just off the highway you will take to get there. We are planning on doing an East Coast tour this year. I am laying out some routes thru the Green (VT) and White (NH) mountians and over to Arcadia National Park in Maine. Should be a fun ride - IF THE SNOW EVER GOES AWAY!!! RR
  11. It's just above the front wheel, right under the windshield. Has the big round shiny thing in the middle. Just trying to help. RR
  12. I have a CD player that I used to have in my trunk. Works fine and ties in directly with the handlebar controller. I removed it since I got a GPS with built in MP3 player. Don't mean to be condescending, but if you are truely technology challanged - I will translate the above. I got a Garmin Zumo 550 GPS (Global Positioning System - basically an electronic map) which contains an MP3 player (solid state recording/replay system - It allows you to store songs on a small storage device, like a computer does. It then will play back, like your computer will play back a video or a song). I would be glad to sell you the CD player - it is pretty easy to install. Ummm, this is a 2nd Gen you are working with, right? RR
  13. I think she will notice the hole in the bottom of the Jeep you cut so you could sit in the warmth and fish. RR PS. My F-I-L does this to an old Suburban and uses it as his fishing shack.
  14. I've had mine on the bike for about 1/2 of a season with no problems. The phone sounds better than the hand-free setup in my truck. I hope this continues. Thanks for the info. If I start having problems, you have provided a place to start looking for solutions. RR
  15. This is a couple of years ago they ran this trip. They are just releasing the second trip called 'Long Way Down'. They drive from London to the Cape of Good Hope (southern tip of Africa). I hope it is as good as Long Way Around. Truely a fascinating and addicting DVD. RR
  16. Go to this page: http://stevemorse.org/jcal/latlon.php RR
  17. Great idea!! I would definitely use it. Adding the coordinates would also prevent publication of everyones address. Good thoughts. RR
  18. Adjust the IC (intercom) setting on the control. Turn it down and the wind noise will go away. You may need to work out a signal system to know when to turn it back up to talk. If you need it turned up all the time so you can talk all the time - take the cage. RR
  19. Zumo 550 - I have this wired into the bike's system and can use my bluetooth phone thru my helmet speakers - with voice commands. It is really nice. As for all the other features - I use the MP3 player in it, the screen is easy to use with gloves, the planning software is OK (not great, but OK). It is rugged - have dropped it twice on concrete and it hasn't missed a beat. Spend the extra money and you will not be disappointed. RR
  20. Donald (Tazmocycle) stopped by the owner's place this morning and confirmed the KLR650 is as advertised. Thank you very much for your help Don. I will post pics once the bike makes it north. My cousin will be picking it up at the beginning of March and taking it to Charleston, SC. My family will be in Charleston at the end of March for his wedding and I will pick it up then. Depending on the weather, I may ride it back - but likely will trailer it. Don't know how a 1000 mile run on a stock seat will work out. Thanks again Don. RR
  21. My guess is for the same reason I carry an electrical junction box cover with me. Tie a wire/string to it thru one of the screw holes. You can then pick it up without having to lean over with the bike stood up. Wrap the wire around the cover and slide it into the mesh pocket on the inside of the right hand saddlebag. Works great as ..... A kickstand foot pad. This is essential in the summer as the weight of the bike will bury the kickstand in hot asphalt. Also important if you park on gravel or dirt. These bikes prefer to sleep standing up. RR
  22. He'll be just fine. I am 6'4" (fairly full sized) and my lovely bride is 5'7" (much more petite) and we both ride very comfortably on a 2000 RSV - the fastest Red color, of course. We have taken several 1000+ miles trips with no ill effects. The fit was one of the reasons I bought the Venture. Was almost set on getting a BMW LT, but the foot pegs are too far back and it just wasn't as comfortable. Also, if he has extra long legs, he can get offset highway pegs that will let him stretch out as much as he would like. I believe the Venture is one of the few cruisers that fit tall folks better than standard height folks. Kind of nice being normal for a change. Your friend will not regret his desicion to buy a Venture. RR
  23. For me after having ridden for a while 1) Levelling links 2) Extra lights up front 3) Extra lights in back 4) Stebel horn 5) Avon tires instead of the Brickstone 6) RAM mount for your IPod or GPS Welcome to the family. RR
  24. Bump for some help. If possible, I would like to get someone to glance at this bike before the M&E. I have sent a couple of PMs to folks in the Montgomery area but haven't had any luck. I know this is an imposition, but I need some long distance assistance to get this deal done. Thanks for your consideration. RR
  25. Eck, Great idea. I will chat with the owner and let him know. When we were talking a little while ago, he did mention that he will ride it somewhere close if it would be helpful. However, if we are able to get someone to see this bike sooner, it may be nice for the buyer - since I am reluctant to send his money until it is seen. I'll let you know. Thanks, RR
