Went on two of them today with the new ride. The RSV is still in storage. The pic is of my '08 Kawa KLR650 on Rustic Road 82 just outside of Campbellsport. RR

Steve, Sorry you got burned. I (and another member) had an issue previously and that is why he was banned. Digging thru my old emails the address I found is: Tim Moulton 4101 Passport Lane, Unit 202 New Port Richey, FL The previous phone number I had listed has been disconnected. In the end, he (or his wife/girlfriend - women's name on the account) sent me a check for most of the amount. Close enough to where I let it die. Good luck. RR

Seats for 2nd gen Venture
RedRider replied to straight pipe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You may want to check out the AirHawk seat pad. I have a 2000 RSV with stock seats and find the Airhawk keeps me comfortable for as many miles as I want to put on. Completed an Iron Butt SS1000 and BB1500 last year with it. Expensive, but worth it for me. However, much less than a custom seat. RR -
Steve, Picked up my KLR650 yesterday, installed crash bars, engine guard, skid plate, and a couple of other little gadgets. Will be taking it for a ride on the roads today and running thru Francis Marion Nat'l Forest OHV trails (40 mile track loop) on Thursday. I'll let you know how it went. Will also be posting pictures next week. Let the fun begin! RR

Yup, just waiting for a good rain to clean the roads and then - Wham - another 6 inches. However, I am heading to Charleston, SC on Sunday to pick up a new bike. Will be riding around for the week before I trailer it home. Pics will follow. This is an addition to the stable - not a replacement. RR

You can program specific routes by using the offline software. You can enter your own POI list and then adjust the automatic routing. Once you get the routing the way you want it, download it to the Zumo. Once in the Zumo, disable the autoroute recalcuation feature to prevent it from overwriting all the cool routing adjustments you made offline. The Zumo will then follow right along the route you designed. There is a tutorial on advriders.com that covers a lot of this. FYI, if you don't want to store all your POIs on the Zumo, you can keep them on an SD card. You can then load them as needed. The Zumo seems to be the benchmark all other motorcycle GPSs get compared to. Others are cheaper, but after using the 550 for a year, I would pay more for the Zumo550. RR

Why Fathers Should Not Buy T-Shirts For Their Babies
RedRider replied to Joopster55's topic in Picture Folder
I'm glad those shirts weren't around when my boys were that age. I suspect the divorce would have happened 10 years sooner. RR -
No, both driver and passenger backrests are separate items. RR

Pete, Sound like a simple clutch replacement. Springs and friction plates - just like Squeeze said. Pretty easy to do. Where in WI are you? RR

Is it now legal for anyone to wear a diaper on their head rather than a helmet?

That's a good looking radio holder. RR

And don't forget - 5 year warranty. RR

They are directed to the same speakers. The music will play and the CB will override when something passes the squelch. RR

Check the Classifieds on this site. I also recommend the lift adapter if you are going to do any serious wrenching. RR

I'm not sure about that. Different helmets fit me differently - all with the same neck. While it is certainly more expensive, check out an Aria helmet. If you have a good dealer that carries Aria, they can fit you. If your forehead is tight in a standard HJC helmet, try the Profile line of Aria. It fits my egg shaped head very well. Aria provides custom pad sizes for the head, cheaks, and chin to customize your fit. You pay for it, that's for sure. A Profile helmet (it is a full face - not modular) is about $450 to $500. As an alternative, take a ball peen hammer and knock back the styrofoam where it hits your forehead. A nice smooth river rock works well too. This is how I got my HJC to fit. I can't afford an Aria either. RR

Juggler, you should know better than to criticize someone's rib recipe. It's like telling them their kid is ugly. :rotf: Never criticize recipies for - ribs chili bread gravy or anything made over a fire in a dutch oven. All are very personal recepies that have developed or past down thru family. They will be defended as a point of honor. Just eat, help clean up, and ride. RR (aka Chef Jeff)

Thanks all. To Capnmidnight: You need to document your ride with a witness form at the beginning and at the end, along with gas receipts along the way. Submit the witness forms, receipts, and a map outlining your ride (along with a few dollars) to the Iron Butt Association. They review it, confirm it, and approve it. There are many levels of IB rides. This is just the intro ride. They only get better from here. If you want to check it out http://www.ironbutt.com Ultimately, it would be fun to do the IB rally. However, I don't see that happening for quite a while. To Starbog: It took from about October until yesterday to get the certificate approved. An email was sent to me yesterday advising me of acceptance, but it will take another couple of weeks for the paperwork to get to me (certificate and license plate backer). The friend I ran it with may also want to try a next level run this summer (1500 mile in 24 hours). It may require some alteration like an auxilliary gas tank, but we may go for it. May you be interested in joining us? The Venture is a great bike to do this on. At the end of a long run, I am still ready to do more. RR

It is official. My ride last year from Fond du Lac, WI to Charleston, SC - 1000+ miles in 24 hours for the SaddleSore1000 and the additional 500 miles the next day to complete 1500+ miles in 36 hours for the BunBurner1500 - has been accepted by the Iron Butt Association as valid. I can now claim to have buns of steel - no matter how they look in Spandex. WooHoo!!! RedRider

That's right where mine is too. About 6 to 8 mph high. If we use a Speedohealer, will it still allow us to set the cruise at 85 mph (max cruise speed)? Or will it be the corrected 78 mph? RR

Been down there the last 2 years. The only place I have ever gone twice (on an overnight trip). There are so many great places to ride here in North America - but riding in the Smokeys is just something special. I think I will be back to ride it again in October. The snow might be melted by then. Supposed to get another 4 to 8 inches tomorrow. GRRRRRRRR!! RR

driver's seat bolt nuts
RedRider replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Naah, stock nuts are fine. If you don't tighten them properly, though, they have a tendency to vibrate loose and off. This discussion has to do with what to use once you loose the stock nuts (or is you want the ability to remove the seat without using tools). RR
