  1. Another site that is pretty good is Smugmug.com. It costs $35 per year or something like that, but it allows you to upload lots and lots of pics. It will automatically resize the pics for inclusions to a website posting. Very easy to use. RR
  2. You can run some heated garmets with the stock stator. I suggest adding a volt meter to monitor the charging system. It is cheap and easy to install. If you try to run heated clothing with both you and a passenger, you will likely outstrip the stator capacity. RR
  3. I'm trying to work it out to hit both rallies. Just got to work it out with the kid's schedule. The Very Boring Rally will be on the KLR, PinP on the Venture. We shall see. RR
  4. Before doing an Iron Butt ride, I filled the bike and a 1 gal gas can that I stapped to the luggage rack. Ran it out of fuel to see how far it would really go. Used the 1 gallon to get me to a gas station. 211 miles (indicated) at highway speeds. RR
  5. Lynn, Go to the upper left hand corner and hit HOME. It will take you to the list. RR
  6. Love the naked sport bike look. OK, not naked, just bare backed. Sharp. They were coveting the bike. RR
  7. RMS - Root Mean Square is a true measurement of amperage and/or power. AC power is transmitted in a sinusoidal wave form at 60 Hz (50 Hz in Europe). If you take the peak of the amperage and multiply it by (sqrt2)/2 = 0.707, you end up with the RMS value. In effect, it equals the true area under the curve. (I hope I got that right) You got a good buy. RR
  8. Jack, Really sorry to hear the latest news. That sucks. Been there, done that and didn't waste the time with the T-Shirt. Just a thought - you might want to hang on to the bike. Taking a ride is a great way to clear the head - and you will regularly need head cleaning. I also noticed the time you made your initial post (2:30 am). Two words - Bufferin PM. I went for 6 months getting 3 to 4 hours of sleep a night when we were going thru our troubles (before the divorce). Bufferin PM was the only thing that would allow me to sleep for a whole night. Well, I am pretty sure you are getting plenty of unsolicited advise from folks like me (who you have never met and don't know from Adam), please try your best to just 'be there' for the kids. As tough as it is on you, it is worse to them. They have absolutely no control over the situation and are just along for the bumpy ride. Good luck. Make sure you put aside a little money for new clothes. You are getting into a diet program that is VERY effective - but won't sell many books. RR
  9. May or may not be the engine/tranny. Go over the bike with a set of ball end hex wrenches and tighten everything. You may find the trunk mounts, the chrome rail mounts, engine heat sinks, etc. are loose. It's not uncommon. Cheap fix if that is what it is. RR
  10. Don't think it will scrape from the passenger foot boards. If so, there will be a lot of other things scraping first. RR
  11. 100% of the time I wear one, now. My wife passed me in her cage once when I was not wearing one (at the time I wore it about 1/2 of the time). When I got home, the SHTF (last word is Fan). She advised me if she ever saw me riding without a helmet again, she would take all her riding clothes, throw them away, and never ride with me again. She was widowed once (non-motorcycle related) and didn't want to go thru that again. Besides, I like her in the leather chaps . I will be upgrading to an Aria full face next year. Spent all my fun funds for this year. Were a modular HJC now. ATGATT is the word. RR
  12. I received the DVD from Kitesquid today. Will review and pass it along when done. RR
  13. Very nice. Good call on the seat belt and arm rests. In WI, it is illegal to carry a child under the age of 8. Apparently, that is the age where you can maintain balance when you fall asleep. Hence, younger kids falling out of bed. However, with the seat belt it looks like you have that possibility covered. Also, love the boots. Ride safely. RR
  14. This is what the tail end of a Venture looks like with the Harley lights. Easy to hook up and they look great. Still have the standard bulbs in 'em. You could get more light with LEDs. RR http://2000rsv.smugmug.com/photos/332730279_exZhQ-M.jpg
  15. Garmin Zumo 550. RR
  16. I got almost 16000 out of my Avon - before the cord was showing and left me stuck in Erie, PA. I should have changed the tire at 12 or 13k. RR
  17. Brian, Something I have been curious about. With the speedometer corrected, does the cruise control still top out at 85 MPH (corrected to about 74 mph actual). In other words, it previously would not let you set the cruise above 85 indicated. Will it now allow you to set it to 85 corrected? Inquiring minds want to know. Might be a reason to get a Speedohealer. RR
  18. They mount right into the helmet. Depending on the helmet brand, you may need to cut out a little of the foam around the ear. Most helmets have the cutout available already. If you are unsure, take your helmet to your local dealer. A good one will install the headset for you. Of course, you will likely pay a little more at the dealer than buying it on line. However, you will have a person to go to if anything goes wrong. RR
  19. Atwell, I HIGHLY recommend you route around Chicago. The construction on the tollways is brutal. Head south thru Rockford to Normal on I-39. Head East (Save my life, I'm going down for the last time - sorry for the musical interlude) on I-74 to Indy. It's a few more miles, but will take less time and be a lot less frustrating. If it's still open, stop at Char's Steakhouse in Beckley, WV. Mmmmmmm..good. Rumor has it, it was opened by the local Madam after her previous business was laid to rest (yes, pun intended). You are already starting south of me. If you have trouble getting going, give me a call. Number is in my profile. Did you purchase this bike from an inmate in VR? RR
  20. Most intercom headset manufacturers also have a version for the full face. J&M works nicely. I've heard good reports on EdSets. Stay away from Chatterbox. Check the websites. RR
  21. There has to be a mention of a pump shotgun. There is no more distictive sound than a round being pumped into the chamber. You also don't need quite the practice to hit, and stop, someone with a shotgun. Plus, you can tell the cops when they come to drag the trash out that you were just using it to hunt rats. RR
  22. Try to take the ERC every 2 years. They are not holding it this summer in town, but will get it next year. Always a good idea. RR
  23. If the Silverado horn is too whimpy, the stock RSV horn will make it, well, ... quieter. Good idea for the Stebel. RR
  24. West Bend, WI They held the International BMW rally there last year and it was great success. I understand out rally would require a few more resources than the BMW folks, but West Bend can stock up on beer beforehand. RR
  25. No, just looking at the kickstand, not a lobotomy.
