Wow....$11,100 for an 08....that should be classified as robbery. Oh to have some extra cash at times like this. Linky

And then after you drag your kiester out of the pond you can put it back to stock and vow to never say such stupid things to her again.

I agree, Lynn. I've always be mesmerized by the 2003 Strawberry/Sand color scheme. If I wasn't so worried about the future economic situation I think I'd have to pull the trigger on this one. Joe

Sorry to hear that you can't make it that weekend. Life is busy, that's for sure. We'll look forward to seeing you another time, another place. Joe

Hey guys, thanks for all the suggestions. Wow, this looks like it could really be good. For right now, I think we'd plan on riding down on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. We'd arrive in the Lexington area probably late afternoon, then could meet a bunch of hungry bikers somewhere for some good old Kaintucky Vittles. Sunday would be available for whatever exploring we all wanted to do (and a bunch more eatin too), and then we'd head home on Monday. I know that weekend may be busy for some of ya, but the more we could get the merrier! Let me do some further planning and see what comes from this. Meanwhile, y'all get that weekend on your calendar if possible! COME ON, SPRING! Joe

Thanks, there are some really good routes there. Since you are so close, would you be able to join us? We could all sit around in the evening and listen to you jam and sing. Joe

Ron, That would be great! Hope to see you then. Joe

I'm looking at the Memorial Day weekend. Wife doesn't have a lot of vacation time this year so we have to maximize the long weekends. Anyone who could come that weekend would be welcome. We could have a really good time on this one. Snarley, I've wanted to meet you for a long time. It would be awesome if you could come. Joe

Just wondering if any of you live close to the Lexington, KY horse farm area. We rode with a group to that area about 5-6 years ago and just cruised some of the back roads and took in the beautiful horse farms (with barns that put most mansions to shame!). We also toured the Keeneland (?) race track. Anyway, I'm thinking of putting together a little ride for some friends (and anyone else who would want to meet up) this spring back to that area. When I was there before someone else was leading and I basically paid no attention to the routes we took. Anyone have any suggestions of roads/routes that we just shouldn't miss? Any other things we should see while we're there? Thanks, Joe

I got a ride in yesterday as well. Went home at lunch time, parked the truck and rolled Ol' Red out. Took some effort to get her to "wake up" and run, but finally she came to life. It was windy yesterday afternoon, but felt OH SO GOOD to listen to the old Wing purr contentedly as we renewed our shared love. It was hard to make her turn into the parking lot at work....she was pleading desperately to ride on....but I turned in anyway, got to do my duty. After parking, I caressed her smooth lines and assured her that there would be many more wonderful days together. Patience, my dear....patience. Joe

They DO work with the new Google Chrome browser! That was unexpected! Joe

OK....time to pull off the gloves.... No surprise there.....1st Genners spend all their time either talking about riding, or fixing those ancient rattle-buckets in order to try to actually get a ride in. 2nd genners just ride!

Don, In the past, I have registered on websites where the site generated an automated email to me. I had to respond to that email within 24 hours in order to "activate" my account. When a human response is necessary, the spammers lose. They don't have people monitoring those spamming servers, in fact most of the time if you reply to the address on one of those spam messages you will get a bounce back from their servers. Joe

Don, Gmail IS a "real" email address. For many, it is their ONLY email address. I guess I don't understand what you mean by a "real" email address. I run a corporate email server, and where I am most of our spam comes from Comcast, Embarq, and Verizon email addresses. Guess I never considered people using those services not to have real email addresses just because the bad guys have figured out ways around their systems. Joe

Lusting???....nah....unless it's an '04 white. Or an '05 Liquid Silver. But, it ain't gonna happen unless I win the lottery....which is highly unlikely since I have never bought a ticket! Even then, I'd have to ride the new Kaw Voyager first in order to make up my mind. I just thought this one would be a good prospect for someone out West who wants a 2nd gen without a lot of expense. And you're right....it would definitely need to have some eyeballs laid on it first! Joe

Just saw this on ebay, would take a bit of work but I think it could be fixed cheaply. At only 22k miles, should be a good one. If Utah wasn't so far away I might be interested myself.... Joe

Hey Lynn, how about posting instructions on how to make a heated jacket so the rest of us can make some too? I know that Donna would sure love one. How do you control the heat? Did you mount a thermostat or rheostat of some kind? Come on....spill the beans! Joe

which GPS is the best now???
FreezyRider replied to Ga Dawg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm on my third GPS....took that many to find one that does what I want. I have the Lowrance Iway 500c like several others here, and think it's great. It is heavier than most of the others, but that is due to the fact that it has an internal hard drive. Huge capacity for your tunes or whatever. My previous 2 both had screens that would washout in bright sun. Not worth a darn for use on a bike. The screen on my 500c is bright enough to see even in direct bright sunlight. I need to update my maps to the newest version, and will probably do that before spring. Mine are at least 4 years old and missing some newer construction. Wish Lowrance updates were free, but they're not. Gotta fork out $79. Even so, I think it's worth it. Joe -
It's a sad commentary on the state of mankind when the rush to buy "things" is so important that people resort to this kind of stupidity. I read that they removed the door hinges in their efforts to get in early. They estimate that 200 people were in that mob that rushed in. I wish they could identify all 200 of them and prosecute every last one of them. Pure freaking IDIOTS!!

I honestly don't believe that failure of the gov't to give "relief" to the Big 3 (guess we're going to have to stop calling them by that name!) will mean the end of the American auto industry. We are hearing a bunch of scare stories right now that are meant to panic all of us into calling our Representatives and telling them to support this "bail out". I don't buy it....if the automakers go into Chapter 11 it will NOT mean that they shut down and put everyone out of work. That isn't what happened when the major airlines filed bankruptcy and it won't happen now. The chapter 11 filing will simply allow, no FORCE, the automakers to reorganize both their management and their debt. They will continue to operate. I know that the union rank and file doesn't want this to happen because their contracts would be voided and subject to the approval of the bankruptcy court. Which, in my opinion would be a good thing. Some outside authority needs to oversee the union contracts, the management pay and benefits, the entire operations of our auto makers and get this wobbling industry back in balance. No, letting them "fail" won't cause the catastrophe that some are trying to make us believe. It WILL force a major change on the industry, which is really what this is all about. But unless this change comes, and soon, it's all going down anyway. Patching the problem with money will only allow the same old management attitudes, union demands, marketing-driven operations that got the whole industry into this mess.

Can you use one of these as a replacement? I know that a lot of Goldwingers replace the expensive Honda solenoid with something like this. Joe
