New Bluetooth headsets....review coming
FreezyRider replied to FreezyRider's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Nope, those are different. There are several companies all using the term "Interphone".....I found at least 3 different mfg's using that term. The brand name on mine is Shark. Joe -
I just purchased these [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Bluetooth-Multi-Interphone-headsets/dp/B001SUZNGW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1242399404&sr=8-4]Bluetooth Headsets[/ame] and will be installing them into my new GMAX helmets. These appear to be fairly new on the market, could only find a couple reviews. I am going to be using them extensively over the next couple weeks, should be able to post a review in early June. We needed new headsets, ours are old and don't work well anymore. I also wanted to lose the wires. There is a huge range of prices on the bluetooth sets....most are above what I'm willing to pay. These are about the same price as lower-end wired units. I'm just hoping that they work as advertised and as the minimal reviews stated. I'll let you know! Joe

Dropped my Helmet, need reccomendations on replacement
FreezyRider replied to Sunman's topic in Watering Hole
AMEN to that! I understand why replacement is necessary if you are involved in a crash that produces a head impact. In that scenario, the foam absorbs much of the energy produced by your head moving in the direction of the impact at a rate faster than the outer shell is moving (at the point of impact). If the helmet is empty (no head in it), then there is nothing for the foam to absorb. If the helmet is not damaged physically from a drop, then there is no reason to replace it......(unless you're just looking for a good excuse to buy a new one!) I'd recommend that you check out the GMAX GM44 helmet. I just bought one a week ago....my first modular helmet. I've always resisted going with full face or modular because I could never find a helmet that had good enough venting for my tastes. Well, this one does! It is excellent in the venting department. The fit is superb, huge viewing area, comes with both a clear and a smoked visor too. There are built-in pockets for speakers if you have headsets. Plus, it's one of the more economical modulars that I have seen. Motorcycle Superstore has them for $126, after the VR discount you'll pay about $113 including shipping. Hard to beat that! Joe -
Denny and I made it home around 1:30 this afternoon. GREAT job, Bill!!! You are a wonderful host. And Linda is a peach, I can't imagine all the work you two put into this. It was a super weekend. BTW, for anyone who has never met Bill, he is the most UN-Snarley guy you'll ever meet! FreezyRider (also known as U-Turn) Joe

HEY BILL..... the sun is coming through here at the Red Roof. Bikes are being uncovered and wiped down. Do ya know anyone who could lead us on a short afternoon country cruise??? Joe...who is bored and sick of looking at the inside of this motel room.
-
We're heading out around 8 am. Weather looks like we may be in rain most of the way. If you see a couple of drowned rats pull in to the Red Roof this afternoon, that will be us!

I gotta find me some new friends!!

Well, I'm not in the area so I can't assist. BUT, I'm not so sure I'd be wanting to give my opinion to an attorney unless he first signed an ironclad waiver releasing me from any and all accountabilility as to the reliability, accuracy, efficacy, etc of the results from using the information supplied. I can just see a lawsuit 5 years down the road when he has a flat tire related incident due to his own neglect....I'd be fighting him in court! You may get the impression that I have a rather low opinion of lawyers. Yep. Joe

Bob, This sounds great to me. Dennis had indicated that the Saturday route would probably get us back into the horse farm area early enough that those who wanted to could explore that area. Sunday, IMO, wouldn't have to be confined to the horse farms. In fact, after reading what you have described, it sounds better to me than the HF area. Especially since there is a large DQ on that route!!!:hihi:

MMMMmmm.. Seat MUCH better now!
FreezyRider replied to similost's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Very interesting. Where did you get the foam? I'm considering trying something similar on my GW seat. Joe -
Wow, that sounds awesome! Someone mentioned the Red River Gorge....I don't know what that is exactly, but it sure sounds interesting for a Sunday journey. Thanks again Dennis! And thanks for straightening me out on the exit numbers too. Joe

Well all, I've booked 5 rooms for the Indiana contingent coming down on Friday evening. We'll be at the Super 8 at exit 113 (Buena Vista Ave). I called around and shopped on the Internet and this seemed to be the best price. As an interesting side note....I've always heard that if you get the best price you can on the Internet and then call the motel directly you can usually get a better price. Not in this case. The guy at the motel couldn't come close to the price on Super 8's website. He said "if that's what is on the internet you better book there". So I did. Can't wait!!! Joe

Your schedule fits perfectly. We plan on arriving on Fri evening. Probably stay at a motel around the 113 exit south side of Lexington. Looking at a Red Roof there..... We'll ride Sat and Sun, head home Monday. Like Rod Roddy used to say......Come on Down!!! Joe
-
Yep, you got it. We like twisty, hilly, highly scenic roads and no ! Can you do that?? Doesn't have to be so twisty that it takes all your effort to stay on the road and leaves no time for "gawking" at the scenery though. The bridge ride was pretty well ideal. We really appreciate you guys taking the time to do this. Without your local knowledge we'd just be wandering around trying to find the good spots. JOE

Wow, Dennis. Those are some great suggestions! As far as our little group goes, we don't really have much of a clue, since we don't know the area. I really appreciate the local experts like you and Bob jumping in to make this into what looks like an awesome weekend. I think your plans for Saturday are right on the mark. Riding, seeing some of the interesting local sites, eating, DQ, bike shop....couldn't be much better IMO. I can't wait!! Joe

Dude......you need to spend some time reading Gold Wing forums and talking to GW riders. Check out all the stock and aftermarket seats for GW's on ebay as well...... There is an absolutely HUGE market for aftermarket GW seats....Travelcade, Hartco/Diamond, Russell, and about a dozen more. I personally have had 3 different seats on my 1500 in one riding season trying to find something comfortable. I have a friend with a Kaw Vulcan....hates his seat, trying to find something better. Another friend with a VTX 1300...put an Ultimate seat on it. It's NOT just Yamaha. They all put the cheap-o seat on in order to save bucks and make a nice aftermarket available. My two cents.... Joe

I'm really looking forward to it, Bill! Sounds like it will be great! Joe
-
OK, let's ask this question.....if you were the potential buyer, would you hand over your $10,000 without riding the bike?
-
My trailer is EXACTLY like yours.....except different. My frame and car top carrier are identical, but I just don't have the creativity that you do. I painted it all black. Have a question for you....what paint did you use on yours? I used the Krylon paint that is made for plastic, supposed to adhere well. But it doesn't. It scrapes off easily. I've been thinking about repainting it but don't really know what to use. Joe

First of all, WELCOME to the best motorcycle forum on the web!! We're glad you're here and hope you stay around and become part of the family! I used to own a 99 RSV, and the only thing I can really advise you to listen for is the infamous "cricket on steroids" chirp that a small number of these bikes makes. This chirp is the result of the straight-cut gears that Yamaha uses in these bikes. Not all or even a majority of RSV's emit a severe chirp....but on those that do it can soon get to be unbearable. That's the main reason I sold mine after only riding it for 4 months. I just couldn't deal with it anymore. I know that there are others who have had the same issue, but most do not. If you listen while you test ride it, you'll definitely know if this bike has the chirp. Others have described it as sounding like the chirp of George Jetson's car....and that's pretty close. Good luck, again WELCOME! Joe

The next "Safety Chrome" item I buy will be...
FreezyRider replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
Where is the original mounted on an RSTC? On the RSV, several have mounted it in place of the stock horn that is right behind the engine on the right side of the bike. CarbonOne (I think) sells a bracket for mounting it there. -

Get one of these: Click They'll crap down their leg when you activate this puppy and they are right beside you. Just DO NOT "test" it in your garage or your eardrums will pay the price! Joe -
That's one of the great things about our Father.....He knew you were going to pray, and HE heard it before you even sent it up. So it's all good!!! Joe
