  1. My front forks have an annoying squeak in them. This seems to be constant, every up and down motion produces this squeak. Can't hear it when I'm riding (the CHIRP drowns it out!) but when getting on or off, or particularly when working on the bike...every movement seems to produce the squeak. Aren't the forks supposedly filled with oil? Why would they be squeaking like this? Any ideas? Joe
  2. Moly 60 is 60% moly. The best I've found at parts stores is in the 3% range. Joe
  3. Hey Don, Just in case you missed me.....I have paid but don't yet have the Supporting Member designation. No big deal and no rush, but just an FYI. Joe
  4. That would be awesome!! Let me know when the float level instructional video is ready for sale. I'd like to be customer #1......of course, it will be serialized with a small bronze plaque on it won't it?? Or at least maybe the cd could be autographed so I can recover my money after you become world famous!! Joe
  5. Is your horn running through a relay? If so, my bet would be a faulty relay that isn't passing 12V to the horn. You could hook 12v directly to the connectors on the horn to check this theory. If it works fine when directly connected to a 12v supply, then it's probably the relay. Have also heard that occasionally the Stebel/Wolo horns (which, according to what I've read are the exact same horn with a different label) may need to be cleaned out as they can accumulate road dirt and then not operate correctly. Hope this helps. Joe
  6. Any updates on this? Joe
  7. Goose, Since you seem to be the resident carb expert around here (and I'm thankful that we have someone like you!), I have a suggestion that would really help those of us who aren't within reasonable travelling distance from you, or have other issues that keep us from paying you a visit. There is a man named Fred Harmon who is well known in the Gold Wing world for his maintenance videos. I believe that initially he started with a small video or two on cd, which were available for the asking. He now has maintenance videos that cover every conceivable maintenance function on the 1500 and 1800 Wings. They are not free, but they are excellent for those who are wanting to start doing their own maintenance. Perhaps you could consider making a video of the entire process for setting the float levels....removal of the carbs through reinstallation. You could easily sell that video to guys like me who would like to try this but are a bit hesitant.... Give it some thought (please?) Joe
  8. As long as you don't mind being surrounded by bees, it won't hurt a thing. Them buzzing critters just love lemon pledge. Joe
  9. It's still in my garage....for a (hopefully) very short time.
  10. I hope this works....but I will be shocked if it does. Let us know. Joe
  11. Must just be the Royal Star, my 99 RSV is not like that. Would be a good idea though. Joe
  12. I have the 4-2-4's on my new-to-me 99. Rode it home from Wichita Kansas, over 800 miles. Did NOT get offensive, but sure sound authoritative! And I also really like the looks of these! Joe
  13. Are you sure about this? I know that the older Royal Stars ('96, 97??) had the smaller carbs, but thought Yamaha changed that in 99 when the Royal Star Venture was first released, and that since 99 there have been no changes except color. Can anyone verify this? Joe
  14. Great work, Bob......and interesting reading. Thanks for sharing the journey on these carbs. You oughtta buy that bike! Joe
  15. I don't think I've EVER seen anything uglier than that! Geez, I'd have to ride with a bag over my head so nobody would be able to see who it was.
  16. I agree with RedRider. Lower the front. Costs nothing but some time. My first RSV was lowered both front and rear. I didn't like how it handled, and I was constantly dragging the rear over bumps and in curves. So I put the rear back to stock height and left the front lowered. Handled like a new bike! Good luck! Joe
  17. I don't know the length, but longer links lower the bike, shorter ones raise it. Baron's sells a couple different kits for this. If you lower the bike, you really need a kit, as the rear brake caliper has to be relocated in order to lower it by any significant amount. The kits have a new mounting bracket included for this purpose. Joe
  18. Still have the wing, but not for long. As soon as I get the RSV safely back to my garage the Wing will go on the auction block. You think YOU'D be going far for fish???? Try this...Fort Wayne, IN to Atlanta, GA to Wichita KS to St. Charles...... I think I win on that one!!! Joe
  19. Hey that sounds awesome. I plan on staying at the Red Roof where we stayed during your meet. Easy on/off of 270, right on my route....and at least liveable if not deluxe! Plus, Culpeppers is right there! Did I mention how much I liked their fish?? Joe
  20. Hey Ed, I'll be calling when I get in! Joe
  21. Please tell Dale to be very careful if he gets into rain. Wet roads give me the jitters after seeing my friends wipe out and hit the guardrail on Memorial Day. Still hard to get that out of my mind. I have to keep reminding myself: Others can't see as well in the rain...be extra sensitive to how others are driving. The roads may be very slick and hazardous, especially in a light rain that hasn't washed the oil and goop off the road. Our bodies just naturally get more tired riding in the rain than in the sunshine, so we need more breaks. Wish I was going to MD and could say Hi again, but other things are taking precedence. Best to ya, Joe
  22. On Friday, June 5th I will be flying to Wichita Kansas to pick up my new (to me) Venture, and then heading out on a 2 day journey back home to NE Indiana. I hope to be spending Friday nite in St. Louis....probably St. Charles....and wondering if any members in the area would like to meet for a late dinner on Friday (maybe Culpeppers?) or for breakfast on Sat morning before I hit the road again. Snarley Bill??? Wrongway??? Any others??? Let me know! Joe
  23. Me too, I want a set! Joe
  24. Thanks, but I already bought a set. It would have to be from a 99 or newer anyway. Thanks again! Joe
  25. Busted!!! Don't have it yet, it's being shipped to me. Pix later.
