Computer virus help
FreezyRider replied to slick97spirit's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
Ken, I have been through the exact thing you are experiencing. Very easy solution. You have to find the executable file for Malwarebytes and rename it. Then when you run it the virus won't block it. By default, (if you installed it in the standard location) you will find it at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe Just right-click on the file named mbam.exe and from the menu click on Rename. Then type in a new name such as kill.exe or what ever you prefer. Make sure to put the ".exe" on the end or it won't be able to run. After renaming it, double-click your renamed file to start the program. Let me know if this works. Joe -
Running Light Problem
FreezyRider replied to philmartin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Start checking the wires. On mine, the ground wire came loose from the rivet on the inside of the housing where it was supposed to be attached. Had to fix that then it was fine. You could also have pinched a wire up around the neck, depending on how it is routed. Another spot to check is where the wires to into the driving light mounting bar. They can get worn just from vibration. Good luck. Joe -
Gen 1 vs Gen 2 ???
FreezyRider replied to Patrick46's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hmmmmmm......I haven't thought of it before, but as a prior owner of a 1500 Gold Wing, maybe that is why I "can't stand the Gold Wing knock off" looks of the 1st Gen Ventures.... -
Yep, it's how I do mine. Joe

Here's what I think of Larry's adapter: In 2006 I bought a used RSV. Bought one of Larry's adapters because of the recommendations here. Worked great. Sold the RSV in 2007, then sold the adapter to another VR member. STUPID move. :bang head: In June of this year I bought another RSV. Jacked it up once using 2x4 blocks. Got it about 3" off the floor and it was so unstable that I immediately lowered it. Went in the house, got on the internet, and ordered another adapter from Larry. I love the stability and won't lift the beast off the ground without one. If you don't have one and like to do your own work on your RSV, GET AN ADAPTER!!! Joe

You didn't fool any of us. We all knew that there would be no nude pix of you. THEY HAVEN'T MADE A CAMERA THAT COULD SURVIVE AN ATTEMPT TO TAKE NUDE PIX OF YOU, BUDDY!!! IT WOULD SELF-DESTRUCT. :big-grin-emoticon::rotfl:

It's usually just those 1st genners.....they seem to enjoy living in the past. Heck, most of 'em still have 45rpm record players at home! :stirthepot:

Let's see that sucker automatically calculate a new route in 3 seconds when you get turned around and miss your road. Good luck getting it to tell you where the nearest gas station is....or restaurant....or hospital (had to use mine for that once, no fun). Mine also tells me my true ground speed, my charging system voltage, the time of day, and almost anything else I set it up to do. To me, it sounds like the Atlas is a rip-off!!!
-
Obviously, the new one doesn't know the old one or he would have picked a different name! :rotfl::whistling:

oooooohh, that's HARSH!!!

Bill, they say that helmet buffeting is a problem on the Nomads. Can you verify this? Joe

Yamaha should teach Victory how to add the "Jetson Chirp" to the engine on the Vision. Then it would be PERFECT!!! :rotf:

WELCOME!! I think that it may just be a personal preference for some women. My wife likes the feeling of being held in by the backrest. Some probably don't. You may be able to find out whether she'd be comfortable with it just by both of you getting on the bike and holding something between you that is similar in size to a backrest to see how much room she'd really have.

I have mine quieted (that's really not a good term) to the point where I could live with it. Trouble is, Donna can't. About 10 years ago we found that she was losing hearing in one ear. Turns out that the small bones in the inner ear were fused together and would not vibrate to produce sounds. She underwent surgery to replace those bones with stainless steel ones and that restored her hearing. But she is very sensitive to loud or high-pitched noises in that ear. It actually can be painful for her. Unfortunately, the chirp is right in that range and she's not going to ever "get used" to it. I don't want to have to go back to a Wing....don't get me wrong, I loved my Wing and it was in a lot of ways a superior bike to the Venture . But I just could not get as comfortable on the Wing. I tried 5 different seats in 6 years plus every kind of butt pad known to man. Nothing gave me the comfort of my Venture with the pillow-top seat. I also know what you mean about the V twin vibration and thumping not being well suited to touring distances. I agree. But I think that both Donna and I could tolerate that if it meant that her ear didn't have to hurt. I guess that a guy has to make compromises in this imperfect world. Joe

Dude!!! If I had your luck I'd be buying Lotto tickets! Joe

I've wondered the same thing. Before ordering my I basket yesterday I had been watching flea bay for a different basket. Let one get away that I should have bought, it went for $131 for the basket and all the clutch plates too. If my I basket doesn't work for me I might be willing to start swapping.... Joe
-
I have ordered an I-basket for my 99. Since it is so far out of warranty, this is coming out of my pocket. Going to change it myself. If this doesn't resolve the SCREAM to my satisfaction, I will probably sell it and look for a Strat also. I'd have to figure out a way to add a trunk (maybe from an RSV) in order to make the wife "feel" more secure and allow me to carry all the stuff that I do....but after having 2 consecutive RSV's with the chirp problem I won't buy another one. And that breaks my heart since I've never been so comfortable on any bike as on my RSV. But....I gotta get rid of that infernal noise some way or I'll end up riding solo. And that would be even worse. Joe

Hey Jeff, let me know what you think of their fuel additive as well. I have a definite opinion of it but will keep it to myself so as not to prejudice your opinion. Joe

Vibration/Rattle From The Trunk Area
FreezyRider replied to Bobby G's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Got a heck of a deal for you..... I'll trade your rattle for my CHIRP! -
This has nothing to do with the Nomad, but thought I'd see if I could hijack a thread. Last week I rode a friend's 2007 Stratoliner. WOOOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!! If I was in the market for a cruiser style bike I think that would be the one. I have always liked the Nomad, but after riding the Strat I can't imagine any other cruiser that would be as smooth, as butt-kickin' powerful, and as NIMBLE as that bike. When getting on it, all I had to do was just think about lifting it off the side stand and up it came. It feels like that monster only weighs 50 pounds! And this is the first cruiser I ever rode that felt "flickable".....I bet it would be a blast to run through the twisties. Seating position felt great. I gotta stay away from those or the wife will kill me!!! Joe
-
Hey Bill.....just curious. Does the 2008 have cruise control like the 2009? Joe
-
Guess I'm going to have to come up with an excuse for a trip to St. Charles...... Congrats, Bill!!!
-
Well, if you are looking for quality and price isn't an issue, you could always get this one: http://www.cyclemaxohio.com/inc/sdetail/1649 Even though it is designed for the Gold Wing, it will work on the Venture as well. Joe

HEY, just because I check the site before I leave for work, open it and leave it open all day at work (refresh about every 15 minutes when I'm at my desk), and then check 4-5 times after I get home....does that make me an ADDICT??? Who you callin' names??? :whistling:
