  1. Don, I have to question that statement. Out of the 12-15 RSV's that I have personally heard, I cannot think of more than one that has no whine. I know you qualified your statement by saying "offensive" whine....but most that I have been around are in the offensive category. I wish that people who own an RSV or RSTD that has NO whine at all would post to a thread so we can see just how many of those "hen's teeth" actually exist.
  2. I would try the I basket. My 99 RSV was way worse than that before the I basket. Now it's much better than yours. Worth a shot. Are you still in warranty? If not, I'd suggest getting your basket from Partshark.com, they seem to have the most reasonable price.
  3. Short answer: No
  4. Ken, Don't give up on Pinwall. They add parts constantly....they usually have those cowlings. I'll bet if you call them and ask, they may even be able to come up with one. Joe
  5. On the back side of the gear there will be an engraved code that starts with a capital "I". And, the part number above is specifically for the I basket. The stock basket has a different part number.
  6. Wow, at 16,000 miles I wouldn't even be concerned....that's pretty awesome life for a tire.
  7. I don't keep track of it. That would be a sure-fire way to get myself in trouble. Hey, you ain't gonna take all that money with you when you go.....just enjoy y'self!
  8. Yep, what Squid said! First check rear end lube, make sure it's full. Check tire pressure. Pull rear wheel, grease the splines with Honda Moly 60. Grease the hub pins or "fingers". After you reassemble, if the howl is still there, at least you will know that everything is up to snuff. And like Brad said, it could end up just being the brand of tire.
  9. The engineers must know a good thing when they see (hear) it: http://www.harley-davidsonforums.com/forums/general-motorcycle-related/13713-fifth-gear-whine.html
  10. I'm not 100% sure, but think that the Vmax basket will work. I do know that a basket out of a first gen works with the RSV (got one off ebay just to try). I don't think the Vmax basket is any different.... Hey, the job isn't that big....give it a try and let us all know. You could add to our knowledge base. Joe
  11. Like I said.....Just want to be a blessing to others!!!
  12. Many RSV's that I have seen do this. My first one (a 99) did it. My current one, also a 99, does it. A friend has a 2001, same color as yours, and it does it too. On mine, I have just about driven myself insane trying to find the issue. I replaced the rear wiring harness thinking that all of the cobbled up connections that the PO did to it were the issue. Nope. I went through all of the turn signals and removed any existing corrosion in the bulb sockets. One of those sockets was badly corroded and when I saw it I thought that I had found the problem. Cleaning them helped, lessened the problem somewhat, but it's still there. I've been through every wiring point, ground point, and connector that has anything to do with the turn signal system (at least all that I've been able to identify). As a test, I ran temporary ground wires from the turn signal housings directly back to the battery. Still does it. I've come to the point where I'm wondering if the ignition switch could somehow be involved in this. Many people have had weird electrical issues relating to the switch. Don't know, but sure wish I could find and kill this gremlin. Joe
  13. Don, It is obvious that this is too stressful for you to deal with at this point in your life. Why put yourself through all this hassle? The trips to the paint shops, agonizing over color matching, etc.....life is too short for all that. Just send it to me. It won't be that hard for me to get it matched to the black on my trunk lid. I'll be happy, but what's more, you will have some stress relieved from your life. Just trying to be a blessing!!
  14. Jeff, To me, that doesn't make sense. Why go to all the trouble to make a thrust washer with an internal spline ($$) if it isn't going to use those splines once installed, but just sit in a spot with no splines? I don't think something is right here..... Joe Edit: Of course, after reading Squeeze's reply, maybe I'm all wet!
  15. Now we all know how. How about you guys make sure to remember this, cause I'll forget come next week....
  16. Hey Bronson, Here is a link to a page from the manual. http://picasaweb.google.com/wingriders/SouthernIndianaOct09#5455625060409681058 I'm really glad you asked this question. I've been wondering about this too, and you gave me the prompting I needed to go look it up. Now I'm heading out to try it! Joe
  17. Well, I'll go out on a limb here and make a guess that Ken's insurance will handle this promptly and fairly. It helps to be an insurance man in these situations, huh Ken?
  18. So, you finally figured out where to mount your mirror so you can make sure your makeup is on correctly, huh?? :rotfl::rotfl: :rasberry:
  19. That was my thinking as well. It looks pretty nice, but I don't like looking down. All it takes is a second....some idiot pulls in front of you....and that second or two looking down could cost your life. I have mine mounted above the audio system controller. All it takes is a glance to the left, and even when I do that my peripheral vision still can detect movement ahead. Even so, I try to rely on voice prompts instead of watching the device. It's just too dangerous anymore to divert your attention while riding. Joe
  20. Well thanks a lot!! Now I have to start watching the ebay auctions. She's gonna shoot me....
  21. This is what I have, works great. http://cyclemaxohio.com/inc/sdetail/861
  22. Are these what you want? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Tour-Deluxe-Venture-Saddlebag-Bra_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4a9dc1a1abQQitemZ320474292651QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_820wt_939 Those are from the same guy in Tartan's link. Edit: If the link doesn't work, go to Ebay and search on this: Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe / Venture Saddlebag Bra
  23. It has been attributed to George Carlin also. But people who know him say he didn't write it either. It doesn't match up to his political views at all.
  24. Good gracious. Is it too much to ask that you guys at least try to check the truthfulness of the stuff you post?? If you don't know how to do that, then you shouldn't post this stuff (IMO). This quote is from Dr. Cosby's Facebook site (which, if you do a 2 minute Google search you will get many links to): My comments yesterday were specifically written to address the Write-in for President Platform, which is a hoax. I did not write or have anything to do with the "Bill Cosby’s Platform" circulating on the Internet. This has been falsely attributed to me. September 4 at 1:21pm You think he supports your views??? Read his Facebook postings. How's this one? I agree with President Carter that racism is playing a role in recent outbursts against President Obama. See my entire statement posted on the discussion board. Another of his posts: The people who hold up the signs, "Give me back my country," should put down their signs and learn something about our country. Still want Bill for President???
  25. I just placed an order with JC Whitney for a few things I've been wanting to get. They are offering free shipping today for orders over $75 (shipping for my $77 order would have been $17!!). Just in case anyone has been wanting to order.....
