And it takes 15 months for them to decide to do a recall???? Wow, talk about slow decision making. They better hope that no more incidents have occurred that they don't know about in the meantime. Big lawsuit material there.....

Same kit I used, gives good results. And you aren't anywhere near being close to the air filter when installing the risers. The air filter is in the next county over!

Yep, now we all know for certain.....you just confessed!! :whistling: :rotfl::rotfl:

Cell phone GPS systems are NOT a replacement for a true GPS unit, at least for ME. On a true GPS I can plan a route with waypoints and travel the way I want to. On my android phone using the built in navigation, all you can do is take the route that the phone gives you....well, it does give 3 route options to choose from. But if none of those use the curvy, scenic routes I want to take then I'm out of luck. I'll stick with my Garmin until the phone based GPS systems "grow up".

Better Venture / Goldwing Comparision for your Specific year
FreezyRider replied to GolfVenture's topic in Watering Hole
You can believe that all you want, but if that is true then why didn't the Valk outsell the Wing from 1999-2002 when the Valk was being made? It did NOT, otherwise greedy mother Honda would not have dropped production. The designer's death did not kill the bike. I am sure that there are 100 hungry Japanese designers who could have carried the product forward. The Valk was discontinued for only one reason, it did not have the sales numbers to convince Honda to keep building it. Don't get me wrong, Buddy. I happen to think that the Valk Interstate is one of the greatest bikes ever built. But that doesn't always translate to a successful sales model. Just my -
They are thick here. After the encounters I've had with them I honestly wouldn't care if I never saw another one in the wild.

Deer hunting "seasons" make no sense to me with the current deer population. They should remove all restrictions for a year or two and allow the hunters to get the populations under control. Just my opinion.....

Just to clarify things......I didn't go digging. I read the Google News page everyday. This article happened to be linked on their main page. Didn't have to go digging at all. Being a Technology Manager, I share your admiration of the things that Jobs accomplished. One not mentioned often is that he and his "niche" devices (as many would call them) have forced Microsoft into doing some things that they would not have done otherwise (IMO). And this has been very good for the industry as a whole. That said, I have the impression that Mr. Jobs would not have been a pleasant guy to work for or with. But, the "good + the bad + the indifferent" is what makes us all human, isn't it? Let's just not let our emotions change who the man really was. That in itself would be demeaning to him. Joe

Brian, You seem to feel that my post was somehow directed at you. It was not. What gave you that impression?

Steve Jobs was a brilliant man, no doubt. But he is being nearly deified after his passing. He was not perfect....maybe not even a "nice" person. Interesting read: http://gawker.com/5847344

I did try that a couple years ago. I thought it was (at the time anyway) difficult to use, and it would not sync well with my Garmin. Didn't play with it for more than a couple days, then gave up. Maybe it's been improved.

Higher mileage scaring me? Should it?
FreezyRider replied to paai1993's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
How it's been cared for means a lot more than the numbers on the odometer to me. One thing I'd look for - are there any aftermarket lights or other electrical accessories on it? Many times these things are installed by people who don't have a clue as to how to wire them properly. My last RSV, a 99, was a good looking, good running bike. Only after I got it home did I find the wiring nightmare under the seat and under the fairing. The PO's idea of splicing into the wiring consisted of twisting together the ends of the wire and then wrapping a few turns of electrical tape around it. What a mess! Also check the rear shock for any signs of oil leakage. Those seem to be a weak point on the RSV and will set you back $600-$700 if needing replaced. Ride it -without earplugs- and see if there is a level of clutch whine or chirp that bothers you. If so, keep looking until you find one that doesn't whine. Others here will probably chip in as well. Good luck, hope you find the "one"! -
Darrin, That is one PURDY bike you have. Good job on it! It doesn't seem like you are getting the mileage that you should. Does your right wrist have a problem? :whistling:

Another option would be PCLinuxOS. It seems to be a bit more friendly to those who are coming over from Winders. Very easy setup and compatible with most hardware. Good luck!

2nd gen side bag help
FreezyRider replied to Richie R's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think I'd try to modify and mount something like these inside the lids: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/4/76/28955/ITEM/Vega-Bungee-Net.aspx You'd have to play around a bit but sure you could figure out how to mount them. -
Take a look here, you'll find all the info you need: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=106

Dennis, That just means that it isn't rated as an all-season tire as far as tread design. I'm betting that your MC tire isn't either..... Joe

I use DynaBeads in my Kumho Run Flat, they work fine. Smooth as glass.
-
They would have to PROVE that the CT was a contributing factor in the accident. If they want to go down the road of "unauthorized modifications" in order to deny coverage, I guess they could point to aftermarket mufflers, windshields, handgrips, lighting,.....pretty much anything they wanted to. I don't think it would hold up in court.

Test rode an RSV today
FreezyRider replied to jbose's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
WHOA, I musta been in a coma.....totally missed that you got an RSV! When did that happen? Were you drunk, or just in an emotionally weak frame of mind when you got it?? :rotf::rotf: CONGRATULATIONS!!! Joe -
Well said!

I had a set of those headsets. Worst purchase I ever made. They worked pretty well up to about 55mph, above that they were pretty much worthless. Transmissions were garbled. Finally gave up on them and went back to the wired headsets. Now that I use the CB often, I'm waiting for someone to come out with a quality BT headset that will allow full integration with the bike's audio system so that I can use the cb through the BT headset. Got a feeling that I'll be waiting a long while.....

One thing I'm curious about.....you said in your original post that wings only get 8-9K on a rear tire. That's sure not been my experience. I've been running around 12k on the 1800. My previous 1500 Wing was even better. Used to get 15K on a rear on that bike. Wonder why your rear tire life is so much less? Joe
