DO NOT RUN CHKDSK ON THAT DRIVE.... I have had people send me drives after doing that and recovery went right out the window. Let the Pro's handle it and pack it real well and if you have a static free bag (the new drive came in one) use it.

Having done this myself more than once the real trick is don't fold your legs under you and try to straighten them out. Bend them a little yes but the real trick is to walk the bike up with small steps not push the bike up with your legs.

See... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59936&highlight=clutch+basket I went through it and swapped to what is refered to as the "I" clutch basket Mine only whines now when down shifiting or slowing which is easy to live with. -
Here is what you need to protect the shiny stuff after a good cleaning they use it on pontoon boats to keep the tubes nice and shiny and should work real well on the bikes aluminum Shark hide http://www.sharkhide.com/index.html

Top speed in each gear
PGunn replied to wflthree's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
With the Dyna unit can you also re-set the MPH limit or is that limit really because of the RPM limit? -
Bob the whole trip as changed and re-changed, I planned on 2 weeks in Buffalo (I grew up in Tonawanda / Amherst). The first week was to be me and some of the guys I went to school with were to go riding around then a mini-reunion of sorts. The second week was to be, yup the Venture rally and I was going to stay at either my brothers house which is right around the block from the dealer on rt. 16 or my Daughters house. Well best laid plans go array my Daughter wanted to come to Boston that week of the rally so I figured ok I could make it Monday to the meeting then back to Boston on Tuesday. Well then leaving Sunday turned into Saturday then Friday for my Daughter and the time spent was also moved back which meant they were going to be leaving Boston on Wednesday as you can see things changed. I ended up leaving on Sunday heading back to Boston and I saw a few Ventures heading to the meet it looked like on the NYS thruway as I was leaving town, those who may have seen me I was the guy going the wrong way with the 06 and the modulating headlight. Bob I have family all over the area Bennington, Chafee, Ridgeway / Medina, Lockport, Amherst, Clarence and the next time I promise to let you know when I’ll be heading that way we could take a ride out to Letchworth or Zoar Valley.

LOL let the guessing begin..... I'm thinking they will cut the rim back to almost flat above the spokes leaving the part between the spokes and the "rim". Then heat shrink a blank to replace what was removed and heliarc it in place. Next re-machine the rim to the required diameter and tire bead seat. But I still want to see what it looks like and how it handles. For the price it's not a bad way to increase on handling if it works.

I have sense moved on to the E3 and loving it. Handling is great, millage is great and the tire so far with 45lbs has not separated and I have over 5,000 miles on it to date, ran from Boston to Buffalo and back and both ways on a 95 degree day. I had to put a new one on this spring because of a nail in the first one. I am on the fence about plugging it as it also only has around 3,000 miles on it.

Miles I feel your pain..... If I were you I would give it a shot what do you really have to lose? If the money is as you feel well spent and worth the effort then I say go for it. I put hypercharges on my bike and I will never go back to stock restricted intakes the difference is unreal and you should go read that thread and yes there was a lot of help in it but the negative side was there also. Now I'm not saying all the negative isn't good because sometimes it gets you to thinking but sometimes it doesn't help either..... "Sometimes a man has to do what a man has to do" John Wayne

2006 venture dies while running 70-75

I would also put a fuel pump pressure gauge in between the pump and the carbs.... -
LOL I know just what you mean I hate cables running and hanging all over the place that or you end up wraping them around stuff just so you can unwrap them when you get where your going...

The thing I do like about this adapter is the battery is good for 7 hours playing and a week just sitting and it only takes around 45 minutes to fully charge. The phone will run all day playing MP3 files if you leave the screen off and it will do the GPS voice from my phone through the unit also and when I get close to where I need be I then turn the screen on this keeps cabling to the absolute minimum and gives maximum battery playing time. The lead from the unit to the plug is only around 2" or so and it is small about 1.25 x 1.5 x .125 and I have added a USB port for charging it and my phone. Here is the setup on my dash the black rectangle thing is the waterproof (resistant) USB port. the white patch is the velcro for the Bluetooth device and the connection port it right above it. As you can see there was a few design changes during the gauge add project....

Here is the bluetooth adapter I am currently using: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251118017354?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p398 4.m1423.l2649 All you need do is plug the adapter into the AUX input sync it to your device and it will play through. On my Android (Commando) I went into the bluetooth sync for that device and turned off the use this connectiuon with the phone as it does not allow you to answer or use the phone anyways. Also you can't use the head unit on the bike to control the phone or what ever device you are using other than the volume.

Here is the one I use and love it. I started out using the "free" version but quickly bought it. http://www.zortam.com/index.php With this one you can fix the file names rename the files to match the embeded MP3 name rename the embeded MP3 name to match the file name remove all the "stuff" like comments, history or anything like that remove the pictures add information like year, type of (rock, country....) it is all layed out like a spread sheet where you can select all or single songs the Pro verson is well worth the money, and no I don't own or make money from them I just really do like the application. Plus a ton of other stuff and it is real easy to use. DO NOT DO ANY EDITING ON THE SD CARD YOU WILL DESTROY IT. Copy all the files to your hard drive / desktop in a folder then do the editing / normalizing the SD card has a limited number of writes and believe me you will trash the sd card. I lost / trashed a 2 gig card in about 2 minutes while editing around 50 mp3 files.

Buddy is correct I left that out by mistake get the bar or a clutch / brake mount you won't regret it....

I have one and for the time I was using it I have no real complaints. I used a Ram Mount System using both the universal spring loaded mount and the Garmin mount for the unit from Ram. I also used a stick on 2 sided tape mount and the factory holder. The Garmin mount I had the same problem as you with it constantly moving on every bump and was a pain. This stopped with the Ram Mount system as you can apply as much pressure to the clamp as needed to hold it in place. I really liked the universal mount for holding the device and it made removal easy when stopping for lunch but when it came to charging it was a true pain. With the Ram Garmin mount it made charging a snap as the Ram mount uses the Garmin mount as part of the mounting device but removal is kind of a pain as it takes a little playing with to remove it. The power plug is not the easiest thing to unplug from the device in this mount. I even went as far as buying a 12 volt adapter to hard wire in with the Garmin 750 plug on the end but never got around to installing it. If your looking grab this one the price is real good for the Universal one it looks like it is no longer in production either and I don't know about the new model but this one does grip very well http://www.ebay.com/itm/RAP-B-166-2-PD3U-RAM-Universal-Windshield-Phone-Mount-/261069919825?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3cc8fad651 and this is the Ram Garmin http://www.ebay.com/itm/Garmin-Nuvi-710-750-755T-760-765T-770-775T-780-785T-Ram-Mount-Cradle-G26-/370630201580?pt=GPS_Holders_Mounts&hash=item564b4810ec With the sound I ran a patch cord to the aux input and played the MP3's in that manner. One thing I would recommend is get an application for you home computer and "Normalize" all the songs to 98%. This keeps the music on pretty much the same level and they are a lot louder playing through the sound system. I have since switched to a Bluetooth headset adapter which I plug into the aux port and play the MP3's from my phone through it. I am using the mounts now to hold my cell while playing tunes or using the GPS. No you can't switch songs using the bikes head unit but you can keep the phone on you or in a bag. Another nice feature is IF you and your passenger like the same music the passenger can select the tunes as you go alone. Here is the bluetooth adapter I am currently using: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251118017354?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Any questions feel free to ask.

Oil pressure question....
PGunn replied to PGunn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Oh yea and the reason for rasing the oil pressure in a Buick V6 is because of all the 90 deg bends in the oil gallery (bad design) and when your losing 10 lbs per 90 degree bend the loss adds up fast. Warm up time is longer yes but when your pushing 300hp through an 1/8 mile it's worth the wait. -
Oil pressure question....
PGunn replied to PGunn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ok I found the answer and V7Goose is correct. "The real number of concern in engine oil systems is mass flow, not volume. The primary function of engine oil is really cooling, so having the proper mass flow rates to bearings and pistons at all operating conditions is critical. Most engine oil pumps are positive displacement devices, so they tend to have fairly linear flow rates with regards to speed. With these positive displacement pumps, the problem arises due to the fact that they must be over-sized to assure adequate flow rates at low engine speeds and high loads. Thus, the PRV (Pressure Relief Valve) must naturally bypass a large flow volume at high speeds, which is inefficient and hurts fuel economy. As a result, many new engine designs use variable displacement oil pump designs." In other words with the pumps currently in use on the bike the volume of flow is high enough at low rpm's to cover the pressure. High pressure is a no-no on these engines at idle or running in gear. Still it scares me to see 8 psi but knowing the volume is more than enough helps... Thanks V7Goose...... Oil pressure question....
PGunn replied to PGunn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I was leaning that way (increase) but I am still sitting on the fence and I also have the gauge installed. I really am not happy with the idle pressure being that low even though it has not been an issue on any bike to date. 8 lbs is really low..... -
Has anyone looked into replacing the oil pressure relief spring with one that would hold the oil pressure at a bit higher level than what is currently used or is this a bad idea all the way around for these bikes (RSV). I know when I was building Buick V6 engines a long time back I would increase the pressure by swapping out the relief spring for one slightly stronger which would run the idle pressure up a few pounds. This running at 8 - 10 psi is crazy only because by the time you see it's off the gauge it's way too late. I was thinking of somewhere around 20 - 25 psi would be nice and a top cruse pressure of around 40 psi hot.
