  1. I still have the original pads in the front, and a set of EBC FA123 to replace them when they are done. Couldn't find HH at a price that even came close to the great deal I got on the spares I have. Fortunately, my days of hammer hard out out corners and stand it on it's nose into them, are past me However, I love the hard bite and serious stopping power that good brakes gives you, and I'll probably improve mine over the winter.
  2. Have you de-linked the brakes? With the linked setup, if you are only, or mainly using the front brake, then you are actually only using half the front. I will probably de-link mine at some point, but I have to say that the linked system does work quite well, which is not to say "very well", because the brakes are marginal at best. When I finally upgrade I'll put the R1 calipers and braided lines on the front, and leave the rear alone.
  3. How do you mean, "flickable high beam"? The projectors can't really be compared with the HID kits (I have one of those too. It was on the VR and now is on another bike). You can now get 2" HID Projectors, and might be able to get two of them inside the VR shell on a plate like we are talking about. Mine is 2 1/2" and there is only room for one.
  4. I did the mod to mine for about $150, by carefully choosing parts and using eBay. Fuel capacity is now around 9.5 gallons. I can guarantee 250 miles without worry, in just about any normal conditions, and can probably run well over 300 miles.
  5. Heh .... All things come to he who waits It was a trader. Last year when I saw someone (an individual) advertise something for $25 that I knew should fetch $150, I suggested he take it down and change the price. I hate ordinary folk like me not getting a fair price. Traders really should know what they are selling. just my 2c ... others may differ.
  6. I have 15wt and was thinking of trying 10 Might soften it a little over the harder bumps in our horrible roads.
  7. Wrong tire pressure, poor tire construction or type, knackered rear suspension, swing-arm pivots with too much play. Probably a bunch more. Rule out the obvious and whatever is left is the cause. Not all apparently suitable tires wear the same way.
  8. You answered your own question .... This is why HD do not take the perfectly reasonable steps needed to cure the low rev shakes. They are part of the package.
  9. The Superbrace I stole on eBay arrived yesterday. I fitted it while youngest daughter was waiting for the school bus, and went for a short ride a few minutes ago. It is transformed! The low speed "wobble" around slow turns ... gone. The handlebar shaking, hands off at around 25mph ... gone. Faster turns feel much more planted. Not an R1, but not the bike I had yesterday. Best ten bucks I ever spent
  10. Well it is a larger engine, and burns more gas per firing stroke ... That energy has to go somewhere.
  11. I didn't forget, it won't be a problem. It will brake a little more on the front is all ... not an issue as most folk use the front supplementary anyway. Just use it less. Is "Rosie" a he?
  12. I have a pair of those .... at $18, why wouldn't I? As stated up thread, they must be wired through a relay ... That's 110W you have going on there, and few bikes have wiring that will cope. They are described as "Driving Lights", a function for which they are entirely useless. As passing lights, always on, they are excellent but way over-powered. I got 35W bulbs from Amazon for $3.50 each. Or you could fit a single HID driving light and get real light out of it, but it would cost more.
  13. Thanks for all the nice replies. Yes, some of the Rallies allow sidecar rigs. They even allow them to carry more fuel that solo motorcycles ... 15 gallons as opposed to 11.5 gallons. The main reason is that they are more thirsty, and they can't cover the ground as fast as a solo bike. None of the rallies allow trikes, but I imagine trike owners have plenty of other options. Glad you enjoyed the report.
  14. Nice review. Glad you got to do it so I don't have to ... sounded fun though You know what kind of riding I do, so I guess I am another rider who won't choose HD. Looks decent enough for those who do though.
  15. About as reliable as police statements, I would think. I'm not sure why folk are taking sides here ... None of us were present, we have no idea who did what to whom, or why.
  16. Did mine a few days ago ... Went like a dream and was back on the bike in under 30 minutes. No need to desolder ... Just feed in a little fresh solder as you touch the contact point with the iron ... It needs the flux in the fresh solder to flow. Did the connector and a few other "suspects". Working normally now.
  17. Let's not break ranks here ... They are both faster than a Second Gen!
  18. When they produce those figures they have the engine on a test bed, and they measure the power and torques curves at the crank. The quoted Hp would be right around the red line, or just before. Figure 25% loss at the rear wheel, even for a chain driven bike ... It will be more for a shaft. They both will cruise at 80 mph, fully loaded. Good enough for me
  19. I think she is right. It's not ideal, but neither is it dangerous. The maximum rear braking force is compromised. In 35 years riding I can't remember the last time I used "maximum rear braking force". I imagine that there is quite enough there to lock up the rear wheel in the dry, so there would be more than enough. It needs fixing, but it is probably rideable. You don't stand a better chance of locking up the front if you use your brakes correctly. I might not be saying the same thing if it were the front brake
  20. It must be nice to be so certain! Personally, I wouldn't jump to those conclusions, and the cops have never shot anyone in error. I'm done with this now.
  21. AFAIK, the '83 has 90 Hp and the '86 on has 97 Hp PS is not quite the same ... nearly, but it is lower than HP
  22. There certainly is. Just be aware that those pumps "push" better than they "pull" The general guideline is to fit them close to the tank, and as low as reasonable. They are designed for cars so the modest distances and heights on a motorcycle should not prove too troublesome.
  23. It's just typical weird phrasing that LEOs use all the time. A vehicle can be a weapon, if it is used as one. Anything can be a weapon if it is used offensively. A 12" cooks knife is just a cook's knife, until becomes a murder weapon.
  24. That is a very odd story. It appears the the woman wasn't actually "suspect" of anything at all. It also appears that no one's life was in immediate danger, but it's hard to tell and I wasn't there. It is probably true that if anyone was in danger with a live driver reversing slowly, then the danger can't have been reduced much by a dead driver. There will be an investigation, the department will clear the Officer. The family will sue and the department will settle. And five kids will grow up with no Mom. Sad.
  25. You could probably mount it to the frame holding the left sidecase. You would need slightly longer fuel lines but it shouldn't be an issue.
