You should lay you down a good plastic vapor barrier on the ground before you put it back together.

Pilot screw settings.... How many turns out?
Lil Venturous replied to muaymendez1's topic in Watering Hole
While I have not tryed it on the venture yet. (first gen) I used to set my needles with a vacuum gauge, you will see vacuum increase as you get closer to being right. But I have not tried on this bike yet so the pulse of the system might be to jumpy to notice any difference. Now I do know they left the factory set at all kinds of turn out. This 86 of mine still had the factory block plugs in the carbs when I got it. One was completely screwed in tight and one was neary three out. -
I forgot to contact that friend and tell him your life insurance just changed and to not kill you now. Love ya dad.

I just never understood the passion for a dog? Why would you want something that you can beat near to death everyday and it still can't wait for you to get home and love on you? Not saying I have ever treated a dog badly, I just don't understand why MOST people need something that needy in their lives. Really not trying to sound like a butthead, its just I see so many people talk about how special their dog is and they do nothing for the dog? Half my problem is really with dog owners maybe?

Taking wife for first ride. (on the bike)
Lil Venturous replied to Lil Venturous's topic in Watering Hole
Rode about fifty miles this earlier with her. She did real good back there. Almost forgot she was back there. Will have to work on smothing my shifts a little more, I am used to things like my FZ1 and CBR which rev quickly and have way better transmissions and shifers. It was enjoyable and when I asked if there was any arm issues since she has no real arm rests she said no. Asked if any issues and she was ok with it but did say she stared at the back of my head on this ride. I told I stared at the back of her head on my earlier ride this morning so we should be equal? No sure if I will get to ride again tonight after my comment though. -
Like it says about to go on our first ride on the 86 VR. Going with medium in the air ride at first I think. Rode it about 300 miles so far and it is doing good. She rode on the back of my 2001 FZ1 once and did not like it. She has rode some through her life just not with me. Should go good, but my legs are still weak from the ride I got earlier for my birthday. Also wondering about fixing the intercom, Tryed dads and with his intercom it was mono from both sides and put here voice in the center of my brain. I do love her alot though.

Getting ready to take my wife on her first ride since she rode on the back of my FZ1 a couple of years ago. She did not like that. All these questons keep going through my mind. I hope it goes good. She rode on the FZ1 once and that is about all the experience she has had in probably ten years. Now, The front backrest usually comes off by just physically pulling the round piece outward. They can become stuck after time and there is sometimes a smaller clevis pin that holds it that can be seen between the bracket and the seat. the two sides just squeeze inward into the three diamond shaped choices. Good luck.

Well, with the frame sagging nearly enough to touch the ground at least you dont have to buy a kickstand. I want to see a wheelie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was thinking about the same thing. I was needing a crap windshield to start with. Going as low as the mirrors and stuff I was wondering if I could just paint it solid.

Is the front end bent in or just the angle of the picture? Have fun with it. -
Project bike
Lil Venturous replied to lwinders's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Like dad said. If you did not remove the little block inside the carbs and remove the jets with a GOOD flat tip screw driver you may wasting time. They are under the small rubber plugs. Dont forgot to put the rubber plugs back in either. the jets are small and it will take a very small wire to clean them out. I wasted days taking carbs off several times before I broke down and did it right. After reassemblying the seperate carbs back into one assembly hold up to the light and attempt to sync them as close as possible. If you open the idle screw some you will see light through there. This little trick has been so close sometimes that I "almost" wasted my time syncing them afterwards. I would not waste time with diaprams at all right now. If they look even close to usable they will get you running. My seem like an odd question right now but does your tach work correctly? -
Throttle issues
Lil Venturous replied to Lil Venturous's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I did not need to open that up daring the rebuild because the long cylinder that attaches to the carb bracket that the throttle cable go into had come loose. So loosing the the adjustment at the lower cable gave plenty of slack. I actually like this being broke because it makes the carbs alot easier to remove and replace and also does not appear to be the problem. It pops back in good and feels totally correct with out binding, but it is the bracket that deflects under wot. -
Throttle issues
Lil Venturous replied to Lil Venturous's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Wow people maybe I should have misspelled a word in the title? Anyone ever noticed deflection in the carb bracket where the throttle cable comes in and has there every been any time people felt the throttle cables were not in the best locaton? Thanks everybody, I hope -
Coming from a more automotive past, I believe everything I have ever looked at or worked on that had a TPS sensor still had either a MAP (or boost called here) or a Mass Airflow Sensor. The system diagnosing everything from only a TPS would not receive all the best information on what the load is. Would like one real bad for the 86, but being layed up this last 5 weeks has layed a hurting on the money.

I have the 86 and it is doing ok. It has sat in the garage for the last 5 weeks while I recover from another hernia surgery. Ok throttle is a little stiff. Also have to really crank hard for wide open throttle. Cables appear to be in stock location. There is a differance if the bars are turned left or right. I have not checked anything much yet really. I did notice when I put the carbs back on the attempting WOT the bracket at the carbs actually deflects and moves some. There is nothing stuck or stiff in the carb assembly. worked great by hand when rebuilding and reinstalling them. Am planning on lubeing the cables up with my cable ease stuff. Wondering what all fairng pieces I have to remove to get to the cruise control cable box and if people have issues with the routing of the cables especially in the triple tree area. Thanks everybody.

Done the Eck thing on my phone...but
Lil Venturous replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
Gave him an old Razor phone last night, guess I sould call and see if it works. He brought part of it down last night and showed us. He did a number on it. -
Things like that make me glad I sold my FZ1 before my son rode it. He still thinks the CBR I gave him is quick. Did finally ride the Venture the other day and was a little suprised by its midrange.

Glad to hear all is alright.

Success..Almost
Lil Venturous replied to tcoop's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sorta Rminds me of the problems I had with all the XR honda dirt bikes I had. Would never start easy, but once finally started and warmed up would run good. Finally realized the problem was lash adjustment on the exhaust valve. -
Ok she read it, you can change it now.

TCI & pickup coil ???????
Lil Venturous replied to StuD's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Never had that happen on a bike. Had that happen on a lawnmower or two. Also had the outer ring on harmonic balancers spin a little bit.
