Fuel reserve question
Rich99 replied to TheBreeze's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If you leave it on reserve, it shouldn't matter about running out of gas, because if you keep your eye on your gauge, it will start counting down when you get that low (reserve mileage reading), and that should tell you to start looking for a gas station. -
Is that a fair trade off Buddy? I think I'll just worry about doing my white wall and leave it at that. For passing light's, I think polishing your whole bike should be fair, sorry Rick.........I know how you like cleaning a bike, lol. I've struck out the last two times, it rained on me as soon as I washed the bike.
-
I was going to get one of the reservoir type to, but guess what, they found out that you and me wanted one, and stopped making them.......so much for a tach, as that's the only place you can mount one on an RSV.

Heck Jack, you just reminded me to buy my ticket on line, in other words yes to your question. I think I've got some of the guys joining us at this end also. Vic for sure, will let you know how many are going when the date gets closer, unless we get it otherwise on the web site. Take care and catch you in three weeks. And yes Jack, I don't like the monthly price of XM either, that's why I'm sticking to the radio for now.
-
This way, you don't have to worry about the complexity of what everything else is, or does. XM offers any type of music you want, and to be able to pick this music up just about anywhere without commercials would add a plus. ipod or MP3 works, but I would rather have a mixture of anything and everything than to listen to the same songs that you've recorded all the time. But this is just my opinion, and I know that this will always be an on going issue. I'm always afraid to buy anything new Jack as it becomes the same old thing, it's obsolete a year or two later, because they seem to come out with something better. So for now, as long as I've got a signal, I'll just go along with the radio.

It is sad to say the least as many of us in the PGR shed tears every time we go into the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, Ca to lay down one of our fallen hero's. The countless amount of headstones is hard to believe every time we have a mission there. I say thanks to every man and woman in there that has paid the altimate price for our country. Rest in peace brothers and sisters.

Rear Shocks goin bad.
Rich99 replied to BuddyRich's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wouldn't you know it Buddy; as soon as I got through going through all this mess, I went out the front door to go do some shopping, and there it was. I guess I'll look first next time, and then go through all this trouble. -

There goes my luck again Buddy, just got an e-mail from the post-master that said my e-mail didn't go through. I tried info@, there's another one bill@flatoutmotorcycles.com, I guess I'll try one more time. -

Number I found was 317-890-9110 Buddy. Seems like they have several numbers. One of those two you gave me was for Greenwood. As is, I think their closed today, just like all cycle shops, so I'll either call them tomorrow, or see if I get an answer back on my e-mail. Thanks for the extra numbers; I tried the 9110 number, and they were closed. Catch cha later. Rich -

Hey Obber, ordered a shock from the same place you did on Oct. 20th for the same price, and still haven't seen it. How long did you have to wait to get it. I looked up their phone number, and got a recording saying it was no longer connected??? Will see if I can find out anything by going on their web site I guess. See if they show a different phone number. -
No, a little south. I lost my shop when he moved to Auburn, and set up shop in Lincoln. He had the best mechanic (Mario) that's ever worked on my bike, as he took time to explain everything that he fixed, or ever went wrong with my ride. I was hoping to find another private shop, as I've never gotten good results from a dealer in the 25 years I've been riding. Lots of and bad service are the only two things I've ever gotten from a dealer. Heck, it's only 90 miles to Sacto from here, maybe it would be worth the trip to get the work done on my bike, with all the praise Steve's shop seems to be getting. Thanks for the address Mike!

Too bad you don't like loud, not that mine on my 99 RSV are that loud. I have the Baron Nasty Boys, but a buddy of mind has the 4x4's, and his are louder than mine. But I wanted a little bit more push, and I got it. Put the K&N filters on with it, no rejetting was needed, and I picked up 12 more hp, and I'm getting 2 to 3 more mpg. One of my buddy's did the Bub's, and had his rejetted, and he ran into problems, as he only got 27 mpg. In any case, I'm sure there's someone on here that has done it, and can give you the right advice, so , and have a nice day.

Obber, you talked me into it, as I just ordered one. When I called my dealer, they wanted $500, that's as far as that call went. I mean, all I want is a shock, and I went into shock when they told me the price. I can see why they gave us a 5 year warranty on this bike, I have a 99 RSV, with all that's failed on this bike, I would have had to remortgage my house to pay for the repairs. -

I never replaced the shock on my 83 Venture, and it had 106k on it. But here we go again! I'm always a pain in the butt, because I always see the negative, and let everybody know about it. Well its this way, we all know they don't make anything as good as they use to, because they don't make any money that way. But here is another fact, I always ran a high pressure in my rear shock, and never had any problem. On my 99, I ran high pressure also, and I've never had to replace the rear shock of which has 75k on it. So here's the punch line; on my last trip, I decided to take out around 20 lbs. to see if the ride was better, and wala, there was oil under my bike the other day, of which was coming from the rear shock. To me, it seems if you run high pressure, it's less harder on the shock, because you don't bottom out. Yes, the ride is a little stiffer, but it saves the shock. With less pressure, I hit a bad bump the other day, and now I have a leak. This is just like the tire thing that's been brought up several times. I use to get 20k and better on both tires. Now, nobody seems to get any more than 9k, so here again, they make more money now, because we have to buy tires more often. I guess when I replace my shock, I'll go back to running the higher pressure, who knows???? -
There still might be a downsizing problem, as this is what your suppose to do, before you try to attach a picture. Don said it was suppose to happen automatically now, but I have had to do it myself each time; I might be doing something wrong also, I don't know. Anyway, I've had no problems attaching pictures since the big crash.

Turning left on a red when the light won't change.
Rich99 replied to juggler's topic in Safety and Education
Been there, done this a dozen times, and finally got a magnet attached to the bottom of the bike, and it seems to do the job. Every once and a while, I don't see any lines in the street, which makes me think theres no street sensor, but a motion sensor mounted on the light across the street that triggers the light to change. Sometimes, it doesn't work, and I do proceed to go against the light. You can always carry a gun, and just shoot out the light if it doesn't change, and they can't give you a ticket if someone shot the light out, lol...........unless they caught you doing it, lol. :rotf: -
This thing they call a 6 gallon tank is only a 5.3 gallon tank, I know; I ran out of fuel right next to a gas station. I filled it up to the 5.3, and then leveled the bike and got 2/10's more of a gallon in for a total of 5.5 gallons. But Don is right, it's right around 1 to 1.1 gallons left, when you go on reserve, hope this helps you out Coastie.

I guess sometime in our lives, we have all lost a pet along the way. The stress in life even makes it harder. After 16 1/2 yrs. my cat lost his battle with cancer. During his last days, he could hardly walk, and it was too much to bare. The day I had him put down, my back went into spasum as the stress was too much to bare also. So yes, it hurts when it's time to lay them to rest. Sorry for your loss Midrsv. I have another female that is over 16 and being medicated for an overactive thyroid, don't know how long she is going to last. The record for a cat staying with us, I heard is 32 yrs. I've heard of a lot of cats averaging between 18 and 23 years old. This is why I stay with cats, they have twice the life span of a dog.
