I think I've done my last move job, the back just won't take it anymore...........but then theres the stomach. You were sorry you couldn't make what we thought might be VWlV, so it just turned into a NORCAL ride, but as it is, I guess it was just too close after getting back from Ft. Collins, and we didn't seem to drum up much interest. Just a few of us going, but stopping at the Somoa Cook House in Eureka, and meeting Tom and M in Reno for a buffet brunch, we'll probably put on a couple of pounds we can't afford, but like I just quoted on another e-mail about this, we have to honor our patch we wear, "Ride to Eat & Eat to Ride" , hummmm, I think my diet will be on hole for these three days.

if you like it, their going to get rid of it. They haven't changed anything on this bike except the color. I like everything about my 99RSV, and I was shocked when they made the engine black, it just doesn't shine. A couple of us were even thinking about having the fins chromed. As is, I too would like to know how the person that took off the fins kept the anti-freeze drain plugs in??

With my luck, I'd probably be stopped as soon as I crossed the border of one of these states. But with all the positive thinking from the members, go for it PITBULL, what are they going to do, send you up for life:rotf::rotf:. I don't think my pipes are loud enough to be bothered with, but after reading the new laws some states are coming up with, it's anybodys guess, and I think the only ones that would bother you is some cop having a bad day, so all you have to do is stay away from those ones:whistling:.

All I've ever heard Brent, (and of course, this will get opposition) is that regular Castro GTX is just as good as any motorcycle oil at one third the cost, and with the winningest driver in Drag Racing (John Force), who's to question this oil?? I use 10-40 in the winter and 20-50 in the summer Brent, and when the dealer split the case on my 83 Venture to rebuild the transmission, the inside of the case was spotless. Never had any trouble with this oil, so I'll just continue using it.

where I'll fill up at the gippo station up the street from where everybody filled up at the Shell station. This is the place where I told everybody about my bike running better than ever, no vibration at any speed, and also got 50 to 55 mpg on my 99 RSV. So after we get into Susanville on our short VWlV, Eureka, Susanville, Reno trip, I'll be filling up there to see if I get the same results. I guess Citgo is out for me also Brent as this is the story I picked up on about this guy selling arms to the terroists. I normally always go for the cheap gas anyway, and that's the Arco next to Micky D's, or the Quick Stop across the street. Always burn 89, and get a normal 40 to 42 mpg down here at sea level.

but I don't use Mobil. I think I might have told you when we were having breakfast in Isleton about my experience up at VWlll last year in Susanville. Everybody was buying Shell up there except me. I was buying gas about a mile up the road from a gippo outfit, and whatever gas they were selling, I thought I had just bougth a new bike. Where the bike vibrated before, that was completely gone. Where my mileage was so-so at around 40 mpg, the trip around Lake Almanor was pretty slow, but I averaged 50 mpg that day, as my 99 RSV hadn't even gone on reserve after 205 miles, then 55 mpg on our way home. Seems most gas stations give me the same mileage, but that's at sea-level. Susanville is not that high, but maybe the conditions were just right in order for me to get such great mileage. When we take our trip through there next month, I'm going to stop and ask what gas their using, and I hope I get an answer. But even with the right gas, your bike still needs to have the carbs snyc. and plugs kept changed, anything could start happening to make your bike run rough. It was a great trip around the lake, here's a few pic's, the first at a rest stop before we went through Chester, the second one on Hwy 89 between Chester and Canyon Dam on the way to Quincy, and the third pic where we stopped and had lunch in Quincy. The *OFFICIAL* Gas Mileage Poll
Rich99 replied to Monsta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
40 mpg here.:mustache:but thats not what came up on the poll, it showed 38??? -
Maybe Dunlop got rid of this post in a hurry so nobody would see the truth, cause every time I put this up, it's gone.

Heal toe shifter came off
Rich99 replied to 2Whlsrollin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thats it, it happen to me on my way back from Colorado (4-Corners) about 30 miles before Hoover Dam in Nevada. Went to stop for a cup of coffee, went to down-shift, and the dumb thing was laying on the foot board. Someone already told me about using the fake bolt, and that's just what I did until I got to a dealer to order the stock bolt that holds the linkage. -
Bought the stock Dunlop D404's that came with the bike. Southwest Moto has great deals, but this outfit had tires even cheaper, place is out of Sacramento, Calif. Both white-walls, the back one was 91.95, and the front tire was $96.95. Now heres the weird part. Got great mileage with the 404, 20k on the front, and 24k on the back. Then all of a sudden, they stopped making the hard rubber tire that got this mileage, because after that 24k on the rear tire, the exact same tire I got next time only got 8,500 miles. The one that got 24k on it, was the 150-90"B"-15, this is the tire they stopped making. The one that got 8,500 miles was a 150-90-15, notice the B is missing. So what happened when I just bought these two new tires?, the rear tire was a 150-90B-15, so I'll be keeping an eye on this tire to see if I get the mileage (24k) that I was use to getting before they stopped making this tire. So I guess it was one that was in the back of the warehouse left over from the days that they made this tire........just might get my money's worth this time.

I thought that was for vertical only???

Nope.

Hey Brent, ask "Lone Eagle" for a picture of his bike. It was done over a two year period by (I think this was the person), Signs & Wonders by Sue.........a bit pricy, had my front fender done by her, but she's one of the best. She travels the U.S. every year painting motrocycles and a little bit of everything else. Here's a pic of my front fender. P.S. I guess we won't have twins any more when you get through painting your bike :-(
-
Just bring it over here Brent, I have a Carbtune and I can sync your carbs for ya. Then we could do a shorty to see how it runs afterwards, catch you later.
-
Good luck in whatever you do, what's your mileage Brent, got 83k on mind.

And I was going to do it, because I thought it was paved all the way up now. I guess if I had brought a dirt bike along, I would have done it, but I don't think an RSV was made for this kind of driving.:confused24:Yes it can be done, but you better not be in any hurry.

When we were all talking, one of the driver's said he didn't like to drive fast, so we just slowed it down 5 mph. At least it isn't 55 mph like when I'm driving truck, that drives me nutzo, lol.:bang head:

So scientific, what's wrong with 5 mph fast. There's enough of those radar thing'ies along side the road all over the states that tells you how fast you are going, that I don't need a GPS to tell me how far off my speedometer is. If your going 45 mph when you past one of those things, and it says 40, then you know your speedometer is 5 mph fast. From there on, when you know the speed limit is 65 mph, you can do 70, and know that your only doing 65...............4th grade math. Like you were saying on the way to Ft. Collins Jack, we agreed to do 70 mph (or some of us did), and I set the pace when leading everybody at 75, this put us at 70 mph. Kind of a drag, wish we had done the speed limit of 75, just my :2cents:worth.

Rear Shocks goin bad.
Rich99 replied to BuddyRich's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That's okay Charles, I finally got my s*** together and picked up the shock from Flat Out, installed it and hope that it performs like the old one did, as I got (what I say 75k out of it). So no problem with the late comeback guy, hope your shock is doing well, have a great day. -
Rebuild the whole system.:whistling:Sorry, couldn't resist...........but my 83 started to do the same thing, and it was because I didn't change my Dot 3 as much as I should have. It finally crystalize and gave me trouble. I went to change the brake fluid, and the master cylinder broke when I tried to get the nut off. I put a new one on with new brake fluid, and brakes were back to normal.
