My headlight has lost it's brightness. At first it was only on the dim side now both high and low beams are not working correctly. THe headlight indicator on the dash is lit also. When this first started happening I could reach in and move the wires behind the headlight and it would work now nothing. I can not see any broken or frayed wires. THere are many things I can do but electrical is not high on that list. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

clutch bleeding
Dr. Psycho replied to Dr. Psycho's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
TIed the lever back last night still no clutch. Of course I did not see the part about loosening the master cylinder lid. So I will let it sit all day today and try again tonight. THis getting frustrating. I have had clutch problems before but it has NEVER taken me this long to get it bled and working. Thanks Dr. Psycho -
clutch bleeding
Dr. Psycho replied to Dr. Psycho's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks Gary, In a couple weeks when I leave on the road again I am taking it to a buddy that has a bike shop. The brakes are in bad shape and it is not running good. SO I am wanting to get the clutch bled so I can go on a big ride this weekend, then I will rebuild the slave cylinder. Scot -
Two months ago my clutch worked fine, bike has set as I was out of town for work. Get back and have no clutch. I believe my slave cylinder needs to be rebuilt as I do lose fluid over time. usually I can fill the reservoir up do a quick bleed and back on the road. This time not so lucky. When I pull the lever there is absolutely nothing there, as if the lever is not attached to anything. I cannot seem to get it to build pressure. This has been going on for several days. ANy ideas or suggestions?

I am pretty sure that Arkansa will be fine and since the '83 in my garage needs a bunch of work all are welcome..... Just sayin'

I have gotten my new plastics, tci (from Dingy), and getting ready to order a fork rebuild kit from buckeye and progressive springs. Now I just need to get home so I can start rebuilding Frankenstein! Also going to get a carb sync tool and check on my carbs, I do not think I am getting all of the power out of her. Scoty

Can these engines be started on the bench. I know that a chevrolet engine can be started outside of the car, can ours? I am thinking of an 83-84 1200. Thanks Scot

Fork Braces
Dr. Psycho replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Mine shakes and shimmies and handles horribly. I am getting some mkII forks and upgrading brakes, I also am going with progressive springs. WHile I have it apart I will check the steering head bearings. If I still have shake and shimmy then I will look into a super brace. Mine specifically will shake on decel from about 45, it wobbles and is hard to hang on to in low speeds while corniering. I have brand new tires on it with no change. I would be excited to say my front brake was anemic, it is almost non existant. New SS lines, dual piston calipers, and better rotors are on the order slip. Scoty -
Thanks for the help guys. I will start looking fo rhte new forks. Now that the wife I have house with a garage I will start tearing into her as soon as I get home(I am currently in ALaska working). After reading several posts I believe that her full power potential has not been realized so I am looking forward to that. Scoty

I have a '83 std with a few problems. I have nicknamed the bike Frankenstein due to a busted windscreen that now has some plexiglass stirps small bolts and fender washers holding it together. Question 1: She slips in 2nd gear at wot, doesn't pop out, just slips. Is this the dreaded 2nd gear problem? I have been planning on tearing her down this winter. Most of the plastics are in bad shape. From ebay I have managed to buy both side upper fairings and a trunk shipped for about 250. THe fairings need some repair but not much and much less than the current ones. Front forks need rebuilt, since they are apart might as well put some progressive springs in them. WHen I let off the throttle at highway speeds she seems to want to nose dive a bit, is this normal? I am also having some front brake issues so I will go through the whole brake system. WHen 2 up riding i seem to bottom out the rear shock when I hit bumps, thinking progressive needs to update that as well. I am also thinking of putting Vmax heads and cams on her. Got it apart might as well. RIght now when I start her up she pours fuel out of the overflow hose coming off the carbs. THinking I might need to do some carb work also. Is there any way to rejet the carb? Just kind of looking for a few little performance nuggets. I also read a post that someone cut and tinted a windscreen so that is on my list of things to do. And have her back on the street by March(my birthday). Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys. His funeral was today and as I understand it was standing room only. I was unable to attend as I am out of town. bluerstd08: the truck driver drove about 100 ft then walked back and one of our brothers knocked him out.

I am a member of BACA. This past week we had a brother in our sister chapter lose his life. He and several other BACA members were at a bar celebrating a birthday. At the end of the night he and several other members were trying to keep a guy from driving off in his semi. Fubar was on the back of the truck trying to disengage the airlines to keep the truck from moving, the guy took off and Fubar fell under the rear wheels and was run over. He was pronounced dead on the scene. THe truck driver has been charged with manslaughter. This has been a really difficult time. Prayers would really be appreciated for his widow Cargo. exhaust leak
Dr. Psycho replied to Dr. Psycho's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks guys, doesn't sound to difficult. Like i said I will have full access to a MC shop. -
Two weeks ago before we got all of our snow I rolled my 83 xvz12 in the house to do a little maintence. I fixed some of the plastics, changed the plugs, fixed the radio and that was it. Rolled it outside and now I have an exhaust leak. I know it is on the back bank, not sure where. Cannot feel any exhaust nor can I see any carbon deposit. How hard is the exhaust to take off for inspection? ANyody ever have anything like this happpen to them? Ideas suggestions. I have a friend who is going to let me roll it in his shop and put it on a lift to work on. Thanks in advance for your help. Dr. Psycho

My rule is 30 degrees, any colder than that and I have to talk myself into climbing on. We are just recovering froma a bit of snow and ice so I haven't been on since Wed. Looking good all week so I will probably ride most of it. I love to ride and really don't care what the temps are. I have plenty of clothing and leather, no problems. Dr. Psycho
