  1. Glad you decided to renew Barry. and if there are not enough meet and eats in your area you will just have to widen your search, like maybe even Canada Eh!!. You and your brother are good folk and I was glad I got the chance to meet you guys at the Guntersvile International. Neer know our paths may cross again.
  2. I am running the E4,s and so far love them. Ran 2 sets of E3,s prior to the E 4 and loved them. So far I am liking the E4,s as much if not better. Puc pretty much covers it so no point in me repeating what he said. BTW run preasures at the tires recomended psi not the Venturers recomendation. Those old psi,s were for the tires available back in the eightys.
  3. I might be missing something here but correct me if I am wrong .....are those safety shoes are not
  4. I'm only 6'1" and I gotta say I found the gold wing uncomfortable in the fact that between the shifter and cylinder head there was no real room for my toes and shifting was awkward. it improved some when my buddy replaced the floor boards with foot pegs but still not as comfortable as my 1st gen. One thing that I believe makes the second gen more comfortable for tall people is the floor boards are more forward than the 1st Gen. Having said that I often considered adding extensions to my shift and brake controls so I could function them from my highway pegs as well as my regular pegs (which could end up being a winter project this year since I finally managed to uncover the concrete floor hidden in my garage). I see this as a very simple modification and even simpler if you just outright replace them with forward mounted controls.

  6. Prayers for Pete sent. A friend of mine was in a similar situation. Battled A heart attack and survived and battled cancer and came out on top. May the Father above grant Pete the same good fortune.
  7. I did a Few Long distance trips With @Marcarl and though he can say better than I can. On the trip the above photo was taken, I don,t remember Him using much more fuel than I did and he was riding 2 up plus pulling the trailer.
  8. Some years back if memory serves me right (No Guarantee here ) a past member, Muffin Man, towed home a 1st Gen on a trailer Pulled by another 1st gen and I believe he took it for quite a distance on the interstate as well. Not that I would agree with such an endeavor, but it does kind of show what kind of pulling power a 1st gen actually has. Stopping on the other hand, Well lets just say I once hauled home 1-1/4 yards of gravel with my GM Cutlass and got pushed through the intersection when I tried to stop for a yellow traffic light . Though I do have a motorcycle trailer the only time I towed it was when I brought it home after buying the bike unawares that the trailer was part of the package until I went to leave the sellers house. Since then it has served mainly as additional storage for spare MC parts. I tend to be like Puc and prefer to travel Light and campout, backpacker or canoeist style. I actually use much of the same gear as when I am camping the back country this includes meals and cooking gear, even though I often eat in restaurants when with other riders, but the cooking gear still comes along in case. Oh and I do carry a bit of extra clothing since in a social atmosphere it is kind of nice to have clean changes of attire.
  9. Ford actually made a couple starter solenoid styles some are grounded and only have one small terminal along with the large battery studs (3 terminals total) to which the 12v signal wire attaches. Some actually have two small terminals along with the 2 large ones (4 terminals total). In the later case the solenoid/relay is not grounded and require both a ground wire and 12v wire. Either of which can be used to signal the relay while the other is used as a constant and this is the relay you would want to use provided it can be physically mounted. The other option is pull a Cole Hersee catalogue. there are a number of solenoids that can be used and then see which is readily available at your local parts dealer. Just remember to choose one with 4 terminals all will work electrically just pick a mounting configuration that will work. Check these 2 links you can see what I mean by 3 or 4 terminal solenoids. https://www.google.com/search?q=cole+hersee+solenoid&client=firefox-b&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiWwIuKqLbeAhWBmOAKHaxXB5wQsxgIKw&biw=1280&bih=607 http://colehersee.com.au/switches/solenoids/

  14. I have a 2007 tundra and love it. You can't beat the ride comfort on long trips either. About the only down side is the 5.7 sure loves to drink gas but it does have amazing power and get up and go. Oh there is one other down side, so far as I have been able to find out there is no way to disable the ABS without disabling the 4 wheel drive, which sucks because I hate ABS with a passion. I have just had too many close calls because of it. This is the first vehicle I have ever owned were I could not disable the ABS. For the rest though I love the truck and when the time comes to replace it, it will probably be another Tundra.
  15. Yeh flyinfool, cowpuc, videoarizona etc.. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Have I not taught you anything
  16. Prayers said on behalf of your brother and your family as well. May he with the lords help survive this surgery and come through on the positive side of the line.
  17. Hey cowpuc, With regards to your soak test did you soak the various soft parts used in the carbs as well to see if they sustained any damage from the various products tested. I ask this because over the years, mostly back when overhauling vehicle carbs was common many of the carb cleaners we used destroyed gaskets seals and soft nylon type parts if you did not remember to remove them before soaking. Obviously any product that strong or harsh you would not want to run through an assembled carb.
  18. And I haven't even propped open the back door yet.
  19. Wiskey for my Men ...Seafoam for my Horses
  20. I have never saw Seafoam as a miracle worker. To my understanding it was originally developed to be used on marine engines put in storage during off season for which it seems to work very well. Part of its property's are to deal with moisture/condensation in the fuel to prevent moisture caused issues, such as gumming up within the fuel system and reduce carbon build up on the valve train, though it may not be as effective on gum build up already existing in the carb being more of a preventative than an all out cleaner. I have found however that when added occasionally to gas of an engine that runs a bit rough the engine will smooth out. Maybe (just a thought) it may not work as a cold soak but used at engine operating temperature maybe it becomes more effective. As an example soak a carbon coated valve in water and it will do nothing, yet trickle water into the intake of a warm running engine and the carbon is gone. Any tech that has pulled the head of an engine can tell instantly which cylinder had coolant leaking into it be it just water or an antifreeze mix by the absence of carbon on that particular cylinder. A word of warning as some may be aware treating the engine with water to get rid of carbon is chancy as you risk big pieces breaking off and and causing valve damage I do not use Seafoam on a regular bases other than when as a fuel stabilizer or on the odd occasion when the engine seems to not run up to snuff which it does seem to help sometimes, so I have never experienced the plug issues that Puc has. In fact as a Mechanic for over 40 years, I have always felt that additives of any sort, should be used as little as possible if at all, except under certian conditions such as storage or in the hopes of a simple non-intrusive quick fix for minor issues. I therefore do agree with Puc, that the only sure fix for a gummed up and defective carb, is a physical overhaul.
  21. I have been using Sea Foam for years myself. Recently I have heard some good things about Marvel Mystery oil as well, though I have never used it myself, I am curious about one vs the other.

  23. Yes cowpuc I was watch this about willy Nelsons Guitar and it made me think of Tweaks
  24. The 1st thing I noticed going from the 404 to the E3 and now E4 was the disappearance of that horrid road snake tracking. you will like the E3 I got real good millage out of mine I actually never wore them out. The 1st set I changed due to the rubber getting hard from age and loosing grip in the corners, probably cause the bike sat out in the sun a lot. the last set I changed due to side wall cracking probably for the same reason. Two sets of tires over 11 years and 65,000 KM I don't think I can really complain about, since I probably could have done better if my bike was kept parked in the garage. Been thinking about one of those oversize fold back baby carriage tops they make for bikes.
  25. Any further thoughts
