DOT tire codes that I haven't seen before
saddlebum replied to Beau-Kat's topic in General Tech Talk
I have seen that LD code on tires before but there was always still a date code which consists of three digits pre 2000 EG: 408 meaning the 40th week of 1998 and 4 digits post 2000 EG: 3208 meaning the 32nd week of 2008. I have sort of assumed that the LD code with 4 digits was either a manufacturing plant identifier or a batch number identifier. Look for 4 numbers branded into the tire rather than molded on the tire. -

Just found another black arm rest in my junk pile I mean surplus inventory. so now I have two matching black arm rests. Glad I didn't repaint the second one. so now everything except the pouches match. So @Prairiehammer what would you want for the grey pouches.

congratulations venturesome I'm sure you'll make that hat look good. And though this rarely happens , I also agree with what Marcarl said, it's only appropriate that you come around and parade yourself off with the new hat at the rallies

Can anyone send me the link to the VENTURE manual, please?

I see there is a stop at the bottom of the rod. is it a fixed stop or movable so you can slide the rod out of the slide. Also the pivot pin at the top is it removable so that you can again move it from the slide. -
Still kicking around and riding though it's getting cooler up here. Rio my Airedale :178:and I have been on our own for five weeks now and could be looking at seven, since my wife is in St Louis looking after her Dad for a while to give her sister a bit of a break. Been cooking for myself and there are times when I thought about swapping my food for Rio's but I think he would catch on....Sometimes my cooking taint so bad though... Also packing up my camping gear and getting ready for a four day canoeing and portaging trip into the Algonquin park interior, at the end of the month. This will be Rio's 1st Canoe/portage trip, be interesting to see how he takes to it. For myself I may try the hammock thing instead of using a tent. Been testing it out in the back yard. So that's me for the time being. Ah BTW could use a hat for the trip help against mosquitoes. :whistling:The buggers are wearing little toques and scarves so they can stick around longer

Even a screaming deal can get costly.....Just say'n:confused24:

Don't feel bad your not the only one @Marcarl has told needs an attitude adjustment. You need to Take it with a grain of salt. You see you need to understand that Marcarl honestly believes he he is not the crazy one but its the rest of the world that is crazy, so you know....we all just try to show him a little understanding and humour him. :whistling::whistling:

Just MHO But Look at the miles puc and and others put on them Unless your totally all thumbs I would consider with winter coming do a fine tooth overall and complete maintenance on the 83 enlist some experienced help from club members if you can cause two heads as they say can be better than one. for the less than the price of the BMW you can do a pretty good job making that 83 reliable. As often noted the engine is usually the least of your worries since they give very little trouble if well maintained (even if not {don't ask how I know}) since they are extremely hardy. Biggest issues are usually electrical and a good inspection and cleaning of all connections makes a world of difference I use ACF 50 (available from amazon) to clean and protect all my connections (even cured an engine miss that almost had me replacing the ignition module with the stuff. Also amazing for freeing up moving parts both metal and plastic). The next issue is the carb not difficult to O/H (if it it needs it that is) biggest pain is rem & install but not impossible. Clutch if needed another simple and not expensive thing to do. Change your fluids (all of them). For a few bucks more I would recomend replacing the brake fluids with the new Bosch ES16 brake fluid instead of dot 3 or 4. I found my brakes much more responsive since installing it, plus it has a much higher boiling point. Initially developed to give quicker response to the ABS systems on high end cars. I delinked my brakes some years back and was never quite happy with the rear brake performance. With the ES16 fluid my rear brake performs much better. BTW a buddy of mine just had to replace the ABS module on his BMW. It had to be shipped in from Germany and ran him close to $6000.00 by the time he left the shop. On the other hand another buddy of mine has only ever ridden BMW's and his fuel millage blows me out of the water getting almost 600 KM to a 25 litre tank versus my 275 to a 20 litre tank (you will have to do your own conversion to miles and gallons

@JBeierDC I have been running a set of E4's front and back since the beginning of last summer and I love them. As far as road contact goes keep in mind during cornering or even weaving the center of the tire barely touchs the road. on the other hand what the groove does do in wet weather it reduces the chances of aqua-planing when you hit them puddles (depending on the size of the puddle of course). I find these tires handle twisties nicely ride well on wet roads and go over road snakes like they are not even there. they also have good stopping grip which for me is a bonus. (keep in mind the better the stopping grip the harder it is to lock up your wheel but boy do you slow down fast) When time comes to replace them it will definitely be another set of E4's. I had E3's Prior to these and as much as I liked the E3's I like the E4's even better. and the wear well so far I am getting good millage out of them. At this rate I expect to get a couple more good ridding seasons out of them. I run my Tires at 40 PSI as Dunlap recommends. They suggest ignoring the OEM spec since those specs were based on the tires that were available at the time. Plus my bike is often loaded down with camping gear for those long trips.

Rally @ the shores 2020 dialogue-encouragement
saddlebum replied to BIG TOM's topic in VentureRider Regional Rallies
Hey @steamer you know......With the right sort of shall we say encouragement it may be possible to go with '' steamer's international rules of putt putt " . But we can't let @BIG TOM know...... Apparently he finds those rule a tad upsetting -
So @TATERS my coworker came through. I sent you a PM.

I said earlier I have wound her out to 7,000 usually during hard accellaration it doesent take much to get up there but though I probably would not recommmmend it I have actually gone wel within the red line. Still no issue this bike will pull rpms faster than the instant it takes to glance at the tach and like Marcarl said her sweet spot is in 3- 4,000 range.. Thats not to say that she won't run 40 to 50 mph in 5th gear on level road which she will do all day long.
-
I have wound mine out to 7000 with no ill effects. but yes that is about normal. I agree a 6th gear would be nice but you do get used to running at higher RPMs. Matter of fact when I now ride a low revving engine it just does not feel right being so used to the venture.

Do you notice any gas dripping on the ground while idling. Not sure if this is a common symptom on 2nd Gens but on !st gens this is usually indicates a needle and seat stuck open causing the float bowl to overfill and come out the overflow tubes and leak onto the ground. Usually only leaks at idle because at high rpms the engine uses up the surplus gas. The carbs do not actually have a choke they have an enrichment valve one for each carb if one of these sticks open it will enrich or even flood your engine. The plunger is accessible form out side the carb and you can check it for freedom of movement with your finger without removing the carb. A misfiring cylinder is another possibility but usually you will feel it missing. you can also check exhaust pipes for a cold or cooller one (best done when 1st starting the bike and then montering the pipe temps

Not Nice You should not talk about my backup bestie that way Right @BIG TOM

So who was the other bidder

If I am not mistaken all the E-Z steer consists of is a kit to increase fork rake angle. That said it would seem to me that what E-Z steer in affect does is to increase caster angle and there by make it easier to maintain the straight ahead handling of the bike but as is common with increased caster or fork angle the trade off is cornering ability and increased steering effort in the corners, specially at high speed. so yes cornering should be done leisurely not rally style. Now in Bobs case he does have a wide rear axle so this should help stabilize it in the corners

Hey Vicky @TATERS what day does his birthday fall on? I should have one from the Toronto Fire Dept Monday. At least thats what my co-worker said he could get one to me. Then theres the matter of getting it to you.

Gary has a second gen as well and I have seen his in action. It would definitely be my choice. Another nice thing about it is with a little extra hardware you could transfer it back and forth from your pickup to a trailer if you like.

or you could have gone to $11,600
