  1. Two years ago when Carl and went to reseal the forks on my bike we found that they had progressive springs installed. In the process the clown put those hat looking seats in upside down. It would appear they could not get the lower damper bolt in so instead of thinking they put something in wrong they ground down the ends of the dampers so the would go down through the hole on one and the pounded the other one on to the damper shaft distorting it on the other. Plus in the process they destroyed the seal lip. I had the 2nd 89 sitting there so we stole the forks off it to get my bike back on the road. Well now that I am off work I decided to rebuild the forks and put them on the 2nd 89 so I can get it road worthy again but finding those two parts has been impossible and since I am currantly not working do not have spare cash to go looking for a good used set of forks at this time.
  2. As long as we respect each others opinion and maybe even broaden our outlook by actually listening to each other with open minds we all stand to learn a little something because non of us are 100% informed about anything. that why we have a tech section on our site to learn what we do not know.
  3. Yeh me no like either.
  4. I am rebuilding a set of 89 front forks and I need two of the part shown below. It is no longer available through Yamaha so if anybody can help that would be great.
  5. No doubt there will always be some form of manipulation from some person or special interest group trying to take advantage of any situation. But you can't just close the door on it either. And that is always the worst thing about any tragedy or disaster. And yes there will always be mistakes made, the more that are involved the more the mistakes. And things do change as new facts are learned. I just heard yesterday that blood cleaning where they draw out your blood clean it and add oxygen as they return it to your body is proving more effective than respirators. How valid this tid bit of info is I have no idea.
  6. Tom, at least I know your more than capable of pitch hitting for Marcarl and myself in the stories and lies dept. So I feel confident the members who make it will have more than enough verbal diatribe to satisfy there appetites. Go Get Em Buddy :canada:
  7. Well put and I am not trying to stir the pot here, I am just genuinely concerned for all those at risk of catching this thing. No one has ever said that any of the solutions were perfect because we all know they are not but from what I ca gather, they do help to some degree in our attempts to slow this thing down to a manageable level and every little step does help. I also agree that at times its seems futile to try to develop a vaccine for something that may die off or mutate into something else by the time a vaccine is developed, but we cannot just sit on our hands either. Sure there are examples of viruses that just ran their course and died out but there are just as many examples of disease that have been stopped due to vaccines. Looking at world wide situation, countries who have taken steps to reduce the spread regardless of the level of effectiveness, have been managing to bring their numbers down and flattening the curve were areas that just throw caution to the wind are actually rising and increasing the curve. I also agree what we hear in the media is never the clearest of truths and that is pretty much all media regardless of which way they lean left or right, both tend to push their own agenda. This why my initail post says Food For Thought. But we cannot just stick our heads in the sand and ignore all media info either, we need to read both side and rationalize what we read if we can. It is a bit of a catch 22. Right now according to what I have read, the USA makes up approx 4% of the world population yet holds 26% of the worlds infection numbers and the innocent number of lives lost are more than 3 times the number of Brave American lives lost in the Vietnam war, with the covid curve rising at a scary rate. If I was an American living in the US I would be really afraid and taking what ever little steps possible even if they only help a little. I have a lot of Family besides the VR family living in the states and I seriously worry every day about all of them. I know I sound less than optimistic and would love more than anything to be wrong in my thoughts or fears and see this thing just suddenly run its course and die off but for now, waste of time or not I am willing to do whatever it takes no matter how insignificant in hopes of reducing the spread and rate of infection of this invisible monster. Regardless of how you feel, or what you believe, at the end of the day, I hope you all stay healthy and I look forward to the day we can put this all behind us and once again enjoy the camaraderie and togetherness we have shared in the past. Plus it is so much more fun to harass VR members in person than on line. Love you all stay safe stay healthy
  8. there is an old Dutch saying translted in english it says. " Even a jackass dosen't kick the same stone twice".
  9. I think a large part of the so called hypocrisy has more to do with how little was understood about the virus and the initial thought was to wear a mask to protect oneself. In which case wearing a mask unless it is custom fitted would be useless. The reason being air will always take the path of least resistance so any air you inhale will go in through gaps between the face and the mask rather than through the restrictive material of the mask and this why many and not just in the USA have initially said wearing a mask is pointless. The reason for the change on the the use of masks has to do more with the fact that we now know that the virus can spread as much as 10 days before symptoms appear so the case for wearing the mask has more to do with protecting those around you in case you had it but where unaware of it. We now know which we did not in the beginning that if you did have it a simple conversation while being to close can spread it and a sneeze or cough can send the virus as much as 12 feet though the air. It is also begining to look like it could be air born as well. This is why the about face on the idea of wearing the mask. Not to protect the wearer of the mask but to slow down the spread by preventing individuals who may be unaware they have it from infecting others. I for one would hate to suddenly find out I accidently infected my 92 year old mother because I refused to wear a mask.
  10. Don Knowing me I drove the stake flush into the ground with a flexible ring made from aircraft cable and why I swapped out the piece of rope I first used for the bright blue camlock binder Maybe I should make it bright orange Actually Jeff I had thought about doing this for years just for the reason you thought, but never got around to it. Seeing the little guy From next door just gave another more important reason to get-her-done. Also most of my yard is not child proof either but it is fenced in and I never had to worry about my own kids or now grandkids. But this little guy next door is a special case because of his state of mind due to the aspergers syndrome. Yesterday my son was checking his oil when the little guy shows up out of no where and throws a hand full of sand into the engine compartment. I feel sorry for his parents because he really is a hand full and having a nephew with the same affliction I can totally understand the struggles they are going through.
  11. Actually My reasoning for doing this is quite sane !!! the little guy next door has a form of autism referred to as Aspergers Syndrome. The other day I say him charger across our driveways and launch himself onto my motorbike. I literaly saw the kickstand loose contact with the ground. I feared the bike would topple over and severely injure the little guy. If you understand anything about Aspergers one of the characteristics is to literally shut out the rest of the world and function at times on impulse behavior. So driving a long stake into the ground and tethering the bike was my solution to avoid injury both to my bike and the little guy.
  12. A couple things to check Check the connections to the ignition unit and clean them. Five years ago I almost replaced one due to a misfiring #3 cylinder. While removing it I noticed the terminals where dirty so I cleaned all the terminals in the unit and connectors. The bike has run like a dream ever since. I have since found this to be an issue on a few other bikes since. Also check the plug connectors. There is a spring and carbon piece inside the connector, it can all be removed and inspected to be sure you have constant contact. some times the spring gets weak and you end up with intermittent spark. Another common issue. Is the Choke. In truth there is no choke. What there is, is an enrichment valve in the Carb which is opened and closed by the choke lever. Unlike a choke which cuts back on air the enrichment valve opens to allow for more fuel. These guys can often stick open. The mount to the outside of the carb and though you can access them without a complete tear down you do have to split the carbs to remove 2 of them the other 2 you can remove without splitting the carbs. They are a plunger controlled from outside the crab by tiny swivel forks that moves the plunger in and out. See pic below. These too can seize up. Wet plugs, black smoke, stumble when the engine gets warm though it may fire up ok when cold are common symptoms of this issue. Also improperly or stuck floats allowing too much gas into the carb. Similar symptoms as a stuck enrichment valve but may also be accompanied by fuel coming out of the overflow tubes at idle and pouring out on the ground
  13. The 1st gen is such a high spirited animal you got to tie it down so it don't take off on you!!!
  14. Thanks Tom. FYI I emailed them to cancel June 30th
  15. The home My mother is in had 3 cases and the military had to come in to clean up as it was brought in by outside workers and could have been a lot worse had the administrative staff not been on the ball and jumped on it from the begining. In Hamilton an entire home was infected, 3 people died and all residents had to be evacuated to any available hospital space in the city, because the administrators did not take this threat seriously. Hoax?? This has gone to far for anyone to even consider the word hoax at this point.
  16. I haven't heard a word from them about a refund yet. I emailed them to cancel awhile back but did not even get a reply. I understand that funds may be a bit tight but a reply to my email at least would have been nice.
  17. In any case it sounds like you folks may just be able to survive with out the old saddlebum there to get that 1st morning pot of coffee going like previous years. Sorry for letting you all down.
  18. I could be wrong here but for myself I prefer to run the non-synthetic oil. It my do a better job of lubricating but I find my engine/lifters sound a lot noisier with synthethec. I suspect it has to do with the difference in cushioning effect between Dino oil and synthetic. Just IMHO the engine seems to run quieter with dino oil and like I said I could be way out to lunch on this
  19. I would say be thankful you don't, I know I am, because sadly the world is full of people who I am sure wish they could say the same thing.
  20. Now what good would that do me if my only audience is Marcarl cuz you know he ain't gonna let me get a word in no how. Besides my specialty is hugs not speeches.
  21. This is why I don't wash my vehicles. Sorry about your misfortune Carl. But glad it was just the windshield. Hope the car wash comes good for the damage.
  22. I stumbled on this article and found it really does make you think. https://www.wired.com/story/larry-brilliant-on-how-well-are-we-fighting-covid-19/?utm_source=pocket-newtab

  24. Don't do it ----You definitely don't want to sign on cause once you do you can never leave and now its too late to realize you just signed on with a bunch of Loony tunes. First thing you discover is you got to set your alarm clock to tell you when to go to bed instead of when to get up cuz you is reading one of cowpucs lengthy articles :icon_lurker:or your get manipulated into one of the many meet and eats were your lucky if the food don't get cold cuz Marcarl is unrolling one of his speeches . If that ain't all bad enough @Yama Mama :2133:will guilt trip you into spending perfectly good TV/Beer time on Chat. Oh and there's BIG TOM who loves to sit around and rant about those lousy Canadians. Of course he will shed crocodile tears if he don't get his annual Kanuckian hug :bighug:Cuz he is sensitive you know. Oh yeh you could become infected with an Icecream eating disorder . However on a good note and if your lucky you might run in to good old Saddlebum who will do his best to not let anybody else talk your ear off.:canada::canada: Now that you have been warned let the good times roll Oh I almost forgot the tech stuf,f there are way to many people here that know their stuff. If you read their advice on anything your gonna miss out on a lot of trial and error fun and could get stuck having to ride your bike instead tinkering with it and enjoying all that time figuring out were all those extra parts come from
  25. Any time there is one or more W's around you can bet your sweet grits there's a Flyinfool involved
