Windscreen replacement
saddlebum replied to Pasta Burner's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Try contacting them. They may still have some kicking around. I got mine from them and found them to great people to deal with. Customer Service Clearview Shields 800 798 6089 I info@clearviewshields.com -
Look into the Nikwax site. I have used their products for years on all my camping and outdoor gear and have never been let down. They have a variety of products for water proofing different types of materials and a very informative web site on what and how to use on what. https://www.nikwax.com/en-us/

Went for a great ride last weekend with @Marcarl and Marca. Felt great to be in the saddle again after an almost 2 year case of parked motorcycle syndrome.

Barnett Clutch Plate
saddlebum replied to Miamick's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I replaced my complete clutch with the complete Barnett carbon fiber clutch and disc set about 60,000 km ago and despite a lot of slip clutching in heavy traffic conditions it is as good today as when I put it in. -
SO how do you go about making the change

I like his attitude. Not saying he is 100% right because what works for one does not always work for another. On the other hand from my own experience getting married relatively young and having kids (as long as you are mature enough to have them) allows you to better enjoy physical activities with them such as sports and camping etc.. But each to there own I say.

It is very possible. Also even an unused battery that has sat on the shelf too long prior to being sold can sulfate. Last week my son bought a new battery and swaped it out in the parking lot were he bought it. by the time he drove home the truck started running very badly, the alternator quit charging and then died as he pulled in the driveway. Battery voltage was at 1.6 volts. he tried charging the battery but it would not take and after he boosted the truck the alt would not charge. He removed the alternator and took it to a re-builder who later showed him the old parts he removed. They were fried and he told my son this was the result of a bad battery. He took the battery back to were he got it and after testing it and determining it had an internal short, they replaced it and all is now fine. When I was a youth working for Canadian tire I would test the battery's before selling to a customer and quite often I would come across one that was bad off the shelf.

Red kill switch on right handlebar
saddlebum replied to GaStar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Park the bike on an old carpet before you take it apart. Dropped parts don't bounce well on carpet. -
I have been dealing with the same issue for few years now. Clutch begins to refuse to disengage when the engine is hot and when the engine cools down it comes back. Replacing fluid and bleeding system cures it for awhile, but eventually the issue returns. A couple weeks ago I replaced the slave and the engine seal at the push rod. So far it has been working OK but I yet have to go for a long ride which is when it would most often occur. When this occurs neutral was also difficult to get into.

I had a similar issue 4 years ago. I found the connectors on the TCI coated with greenish powder. Thoroughly cleaned all the terminals and with a tiny brush electronic contact cleaner a second cleaning with ACF50 and finally just a good flush and saturation with ACF 50. The bike has run like dream ever since.

Then again I may decide to retire next year

Take a piece of white paper and place a drop of oil on it. If it spreads evenly there is a good chance there is no gas in the oil. If you end up with a dark center and a lighter ring around it there could be gas in the oil. Another way is to rub some oil between your thump and finger. If it remains slippery it should be OK but if feels like it is just rubbing away and loosing it's slippery feel than there is likely gas in the oil.

Now you went and done it @ragtop69gs

Wet carbs could also indicate stuck floats or needle seats, Is there any gas dripping on the ground from the overflow tubes while idling? If so you will have to remove carbs and check internally that the float and needle seat are functioning and free.

Start with checking for spark. Squirt a bit of oil in each cylinder and stick the old plugs back in and crank her over a few times to swish the oil around, (take care you do not overheat the starter several short cranks is better than one long one ). After the starter has been given a rest pull the plugs and do a compression test. If compression is good and If you have spark put some new plugs in, trickle a very tiny bit of gas in carbs and crank to see if it will fire. If it does but won't run on the carbs (assuming here that you drained all fuel and replaced with fresh fuel), you can try doing the shot gun treatment, see attachment. If that does not work remove and Overhaul the carbs. shooting the shot gun.pdf
