  1. Congratulations to all. And enjoy lifes little treasure.
  2. Hey Dan Have you figured out if it will hold up a tent as good as Brown sugar or will you have to invest in some tent poles. :rotfl:
  3. Believe it or not I might actually have one like that I will have to dig a little but if I find it its yours. At one time all three speed bikes came with those.
  4. I very seldom use the choke to get my bike fired up but on the occasions that I do, I usually forget to take it back off. On one occasion I rode all the way from Woodstock to Burlington with the choke partially on. Well since I no longer use the sense wire for the battery because I have a Decca battery and the wire is currently connected to my ACC terminal to keep the light off, I came up with the idea of mounting a micro switch close to the choke linkage at the carbs then run the wire to the switch and from the switch to the ACC terminal. This way anytime the battery indicator and light are on I will know The idiot behind the handle bar is running with his choke on.:whistling:
  5. Post a picture of the shifter. If I don't have something kicking around my garage, Cody just might, he is always playing around with that stuff.
  6. I installed a set of PIAA fog lights. They use only 2 LEDs per light are brighter than my headlight and are focused to light the road and shoulders without blinding oncoming traffic. They draw less than 2 amps so I wired them directly to the acc. terminal with only an in line 3 amp fuse. With regards to lighting laws I think you will find that areas that have them, require that road lights (not fog lights) are to be wired so they can only function when the high beams are on. This is so they will go off when you dim your headlights for incoming traffic. Fog lights are to be wired so that they cannot function by themselves without the headlights on. PIAA also makes flood light and spotlight versions of the fog light. I also compared them to the square LED shown and found the PIAA much brighter and better focused. It all has to do with the design of the reflector.
  7. For what are using the blue tooth? If it is for your cell phone then you need a blue tooth headset such as the Scala rider. That is what I use and works perfectly. With the Scala it links headset, GPS and cell phone all together.
  8. Fortunately most of the items listed are relatively minor issues and easily rectified. I also think most of the stator and rectifier issues are the result of overloading the electrical system with extra lighting etc. This is why I installed LED fog lights (only 2 amp draw) and use LED were I can.
  9. My wife Marita goes in on the 28th of March for a full hip replacement. She is only 57 but is in such bad shape from the arthritis that caused her hip situation that she can put it off no longer. Her biggest fear is that it has been said that the replacement is only good for ten years (give or take). Unfortunately she is in such bad shape and pain that she really has no choice. My biggest fear is the infection thing. It seems to come up all too often lately with many surgeries and is how I lost my father 4 months after a supposed successful operation.
  10. Probably got one of her new whips wrapped around a satellite and redirected it.
  11. Don't you ever do that again you scared the pants off me
  12. Better bring out a chair and a beer or two.......sometimes it requires a good long stare. While you are staring recheck your vacuum connections and make sure you have no leaks on the tubes that secure the carbs to the heads.
  13. If you are looking for a good touring bike you cannot go wrong with the venture. From the 1983 up to the currant model. They are all a pleasure to ride and easy to spend long hours in the saddle. The gen ones are a little sporter but all in all you can't go wrong with either. If looking at an 83 0r 84 just check to see if it has had the second gear upgrade done. Oh Bonus point here they are one of the few bikes that still provide a cassette player for those of us that like real music.
  14. A little bit of gasket eliminator/gasket maker (just a very thin amount) on the top surface of the grommets and were the grommet contacts the valve cover helps stop oil sweating around the grommets. Also agree with previous statements, replace the gaskets and grommets its worth it.
  15. I am running PIAA fog lights and love them. They light up the road to the front and sides without blinding oncoming traffic or reflecting back at me in rain or fog.
  16. You speak as though you were talking about an EIGHT TRACK.
  17. With poles??????:rotfl:
  18. Good luck to you Rick. It may suck not to ride but at least its during the winter months rather than the summer ones
  19. I am for leaving it the way it is. I deal with software at work and am getting really tired of constantly having to keep up with changes and their subsequent fixes. Its gotten to the point where you spend more time learning the software than you actually do using it.
  20. I always straddle and support the bike with kick stand up when ever a passenger gets off or on. Reason being that depending on the bike, it is possible that with the kick stand down as the suspension squats from the additional weight the kick stand can force the bike to over balance in the opposite direction.
  21. Had a similar issue with a friends 84. pulled the supply line of the carb that was acting up, plugged it and drove on three cylinders. BTW being a 1st gen there was more than enough power to run on the three cyl.
  22. That one makes the most sense since he already has the .........anchor for it :rotfl:
