  1. Hey Bob before you pull everything apart put an inline spark tester between the plug and boot. Make sure it is the adjustable type were you can widen the gap. You should be able to open the gap to almost 5/8 of an inch and see a spark jump. Easy way to test your ignition system. Also If you use a setup like I posted earlier for wet checking the float levels you will be able to see if the float and needle/seat is functioning properly. With this bench set up you will able to see if a carb is flooding. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=86821 You can leave the carbs assembled initially and fore go the clear tube for now. Just supply the pressurized gas to each carb one at a time to see if it overflows and starts coming out of the vent tube.
  2. Hi Rick Glad your recovering and the outlook ahead is a positive one. Stay strong my friend.
  3. Get well soon Rick. The symptoms described also sound a lot like a vertigo attack (inner ear infection or disorder). I had that happen to me several years ago. It comes on sudddenly and can linger for a few days. You have no sense of balance, you feel like your sea sick and no matter how still you sit the room seems to move around in circles. Lets hope and pray it was nothing more serious than that. Whatever it is Prayers sent that you have a quick and complete recovery.
  4. Cracks in any coil can cause the spark meant to jump at the plugs to detour along an easier path. A good way to test if your having high voltage leakage is run the bike in the dark and with a spray bottle mist over the entire ignition system. If you start to see what us mechanics like to refer to as Christmas lights you have found your problem.
  5. I scanned my computer and found no malware then proceded to change my PW. So far I seem to be OK now. My daughter opened the link she got from me and now her e-mail is passing out the spam. Hopefully I have it nipped.
  6. My personal e-mail has been hacked and a lot of junk mail has been sent out through my account. If you recieved email from Ben Bennink or saddlebum@hotmail.com DO NOT OPEN IT. I am not sure when this actually occurred but the most recent download I made was the TYRE mapping program which I downloaded yesterday. Whether or not this is the source I am not sure.
  7. Not sure why but the picture of that bus reminds me of the old car movie Vanishing Point.
  8. I am sure it went through ------you will have to check under the laptop to see whether or or not it got beyond that.
  9. I am no Doctor but I had similar symptoms about 6 or 8 months ago. specially the difficult breathing when laying down as well as my heart rate would sky rocket and I would have to get up. I thought I was having a some sort of heart issue. After a battery of tests the doctors came to the conclusion that I was in good health but having an anxiety attack due to work related stress and treated me for that. It would appear that they were right as I am doing fine now. One other thing my doctor told me was to make sure I took at least 2000 mg of vitamin D a day. He said there is quite the increase in anxiety attacks because due to UV we tend to avoid the sun and as a result do not get enough vitamin D. I have been doing as he instructed and have been fine ever since and without any additional medication. Just to be clear my Dr is not a naturalist but a regular Dr. and I know first from watching a friend go through it and then going through it myself that anxiety can make the body do a sorts of scary stuff. So like I said I am no Dr but it can't hurt to have your Dad checked for anxiety disorder. Finally what ever it is that ails your Dad Lets pray that it gets sorted out soon.
  10. Gee Don first work is overwhelming me with tests. then Volvo corporate with more tests Then the government with workers compensation tests and now you. At least your test doesn't have any questions for me to get wrong.
  11. Now by Marking ....are you actually lifting your leg by a tree or fire hydrant
  12. I used the same setup as in post #2 except that I used a 4 foot wilson with tunable tip. It is thinner, taller and lighter than the firestick and has an added wire at the base you can ground to help eliminate ignition static interference noise. Also on the package it states that you can ground it to assit in better swr if you cannot get it low enough. I did not have to ground it on mine and I got 1.3:1 match. Here is the link. http://wilsonantenna.com/products/cb-antennas-kitswhips-tips/sp/wilson-4-silver-load-fgt-series-fiberglass-whip-black/
  13. Has anyone tried filling in the holes and , cutting off the studs and replacing the whole affair with metal snaps like on a tunneau cover or to snap a visor on a helmet. I was thinking about trying this and wondered if anyone already has. Maybe instead of filling the hole insert a rubber plug were the grommet goes then mount one half of the snap to the rubber plug to allow for some flexibility and movement. Just an Idea I was thinking about
  14. Is there any indication of success with the ones being treated.
  15. Here are the pics I promised to post of my rotating hitch.
  16. Start em young I always say ----- Of course that now means I am no longer the cutest rider in the club.
  17. Really - - -I was in the middle of reading threads when all of a sudden while about to post another thread I got a notice saying I did not have authorization paid my $12.00 and 2 minutes later I was somebody again (or at least as close to a somebody as you possibly could get on this site). Best of both worlds A 1st gen to get to places while they still exist. a 2nd gen to actually be able to watch the leaves go from bud to green leaves and then to colored leaves all in a single trip. But Dan If I recall this was your second mistake the first was leaving your tent poles at home when you went to MD
  18. That is because most of us can't read -:rotfl:also sliders in carbs may stick if it has sat around. Removing the air filter and Soaking them a bit with sea foam or sea foam spray should free them up nicely. Sometimes after they have soaked you may need to gently reach down with a screwdriver and carefully push them back to aid in freeing them up.

OOPS I'm still in Nova Scotia
  20. I cannot really say as I have a criteria. I never follow weather reports because they cannot be trusted. I have had occasions were I did something else instead of going for a ride, because of predicted rain and lost out on a beautiful day and I have left on predicted sunny days and got caught in the rain. So now i go by own gut feel but mostly I just ride when I want to ride. Rain gear is always with me just in case. The only time I won't go on an all day ride, is if it is already raining and my gut tells me its going to stay that way all day. going to work I pretty much ride no matter what. But I do not have far to go so the odds of getting really soaked are pretty slim.
  21. Exactly - I am away from home in Nova Scotia right now but when I get home I will post a pic.

The food we had, specially my steak was done quickly and to perfection. The service was fast, friendly and curtious but not over bearing. From 1 to 10, I would give this place a solid 10.
  23. That is more or less along the lines that I was thinking. I know in the old days when I used to tune twin sticks, I would put a 50 ohm dummy load in place of one antenna while tuning the other and then do the same for the other.
  24. Hey Congratulations you two. Its easy to see how you made it. Everytime I have met the pair of you, you just seem to fit together.
  25. Actually I ran into similar issue with my 89. I could transmit a short distance only about 100 feet but receive not to bad. I did however have to turn squelch right off to get any reception at all. I came across a 52 inch Wilson which had been removed from a truck traded in at the dealer were I work and thought I would try it to see if the taller antenna would make any improvement. Before mounting it I checked continuity from tip to base to make sure it was ok, because sometimes the wire antenna breaks away at the base. When I swapped it for the short Wilson on my bike I decided to check its continuity just to compare. You can imagine my surprise when I discovered it had an open connection between the tip and the base. And here in lies the mystery. How is it I could transmit at all, poor as it was and how is it I did not blow the finals in my CB. Only thing I can think of is because my antenna system is not a direct hook up to the radio but goes through a multiplexor, as the 1st gens do, it somehow compensated in some small way, Maybe some how using the coax lead to the am/fm radio as a substitute antenna . Oh yeah, after I installed the new antenna I had to adjust the squelch because I was picking up everything now and it transmits like a dream.
