Ok so now I am curious. What exactly is TapaTalk? I see it occasionally pop up as a suggestion when I open the site using my android phone. Normally I just open an internet connection (or use a data connection if I don't have an internet connection available to me). It just functions the same as if I were to use my laptop or PC. So What exactly is it and what are the benefits to using it. I also noticed when I go to the app store that there appears to be either different versions or maybe even different sources Based on how it is spelled (eg: Tapatalk, Tap-a-Talk, Tap a Talk,). So if I were to jump on the wagon to use it how would I know I have the best or the safest one? What are the advantages and what are the disadvantages (if Any)?

Sorry to hear about your loss Scott. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. -
Better yet, I just checked their website and when you click on sponsors, Harley is not even on the list as a sponsor so the they are getting free exposure at Yamaha's expense. Such A Deal!!! :rotfl:

Ok so does this mean we can now carry passengers in trailer behind the bike. Just imagine Granny in a trailer sitting in a rocking chair knitting being towed behind a motorcycle. -
Personally I hate change, specially when it comes to anything involving computers. It seems the more things change the more confusing and troublesome they get. Of all the sites I have been on I always found this one to be the most user friendly. Oh and I like the blue. Also I hope we don't loose our tech library etc..

My son went on some sort of diet regimen that had more to do with eating healthy than starving and even allows for red meat and some fat. Just sugar and is the main no no and keeping carbs to a minimum. Believe it or not the bugger dropped 90 lbs in about 6 months, eating more than I eat

Yes in part you are correct. However the needles do open and even more so when the engine is running at higher RPM, allowing fuel flow, so the pump does get a break. But when the pump has to work consistently hard over a period of time, because of a badly plugged filter, it does take its toll on the pump. Obviously this is not something that happens instantly over night because a filter is plugged but allow it to continue over an extended period the pump will suffer. Bottom line a filter is cheaper to replace.

I always carry an extra fleece vest with a high collar and a balaclava for cold nights specially in the fall for cool days and nights. Light compression bags available from camping stores are great for saving space. The frogg Toggs I always carry also help some when it gets cool. Dealing with frost on the windshield is my biggest issue. Unlike glass you can't just scrape it off.

I have seen fuel filters plug up so bad, that you could not blow through them and that an engine won't run or an electric fuel pump is destroyed because of it. Customers vehicles have often been towed into our shop only to find a simple fuel filter change would have saved them a lot of grief. I have seen thousands of dollars spent on fuel systems for diesel engines because a tech did not think to check the fuel filter first. Bottom line, money spent on a fuel filter, is cheap maintenance and a cheap first step to diagnosing fuel system issues.

If you have the stock spark plug boots (not the NGK ones) and you look inside the spark plug boots you will see that the brass contact has a slot across it. Using a screwdriver carefully unscrew this contact and drop it out. Behind it will be a small round bar and a spring which should drop out at the same time, careful you do not drop or loose them. Check them to make sure they are in good clean shape. Also make sure all your connectors and contacts are in good clean shape.

A good number of us have seized pet cocks, so they never get turned off and few of us have problems because of it. Also keep in mind the tanks on these bikes are lower than the carbs and there for draining through the carbs while sitting is not usually an issue. Point in fact I finally pulled my Carbs off of the bike after 137,000 km and only because one of the needles was leaking. I have never done anything special when parking the bike for the winter other than add seafoam to the tank run the bike so it goes through the carbs and park it with a full tank of fuel. And I am one of those with the petcock siezed open in reserve. Oh and when I did pull the carbs apart they were pretty clean inside. The worst thing you can do is park it with a empty or partial tank of fuel. All that air space is a great way to get condensation in the tank, hence carb issues down the road.

Hint of gas during oil change.
saddlebum replied to Broncoboy36081's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would say yes. chances are one of the carbs may be over flowing and leaking gas into the the cylinder. But before you do take the air cleaner off and look for a wet carb. You could also try disconnecting the fuel supply line from the carbs and hang a container of gas higher than the carbs and run a fuel line from this container to the carbs. Watch for fuel leaking from the carbs into the cylinder. It may have to hang over night to see. Pull the spark plugs and see which cylinder starts filling up with gas. You can also perform this test on the bench with the carbs removed. Here is the setup I use on the bench. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=86821 A mighty vac and container such as used for bleeding brakes but set in pressure mode instead of vacuum mode also works. Pressurize to 2.5 - 3.0 lbs PSI. -
Accessories are not a big issue with me and like others I like the Carbs and the fact that I can do my own work. I also do not feel the need to buy something just because it is the popular item. Change or new ideas matter only if that change is a significant improvement over handling, comfort and reliability. If I do break down, I would like to think I have half a chance of getting it going again if only to limp home or some destination were further repairs can be made. For me all the chrome in the world is useless when sitting on the side of the road. I am into the motorcycles for the ride not the oohs and awes of others. So would I buy another Venture if I could afford it? Yes I would.

Being as today is the Canadian Thanks Giving, I would like to say Happy Thanks Giving to all. Of all the things I have to be thankful for I would like to say I am also thankful for having been tipped off to venturerider.org by a couple I chanced to meet on the road back in 2006 which resulted in meeting so many good people from all over, including those from other country's, many of which I have since met in person and have come to look upon as good friends.
