Does anyone know anything about Diesel tractors
saddlebum replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
If the tractor sat for a while or ran out of fuel, it may have lost its prime. Some have a primer pump for this purpose which includes a bleeder screw. you open the screw and work the pump until the fuel runs clear out of the bleeder then close it and go to step 2 if it still does not fire. If it does not have a primer pump go directly to step 2 Most tractors have individual high pressure fuel lines that run from the high pressure pump to the cylinder head, usually one for each cylinder. loosen all the lines off (preferably at the head) but do not totally disconnect them. Make sure the fuel filter is full of fuel. Have a helper crank the engine while you watch the fuel lines. Eventually one by one fuel should start spitting out of the fittings. As each one starts spitting fuel out tighten the line while your helper continues to crank the engine. Quite often it will start to fire on the cyl that you just tightened the line on. Continue watching the lines and tighten each one as it starts spitting fuel out. Even if the engine starts running on one or two cylinders continue following the procedure. You want to tighten up the lines as the fuel is spurting out, and yes it can get messy. If it still does not fire or fuel does not appear at the lines and you are in a cold climate it may be because of water in the fuel which has frozen. Pour some methyl hydrate in the fuel tank (a cup or two should do) and remove the fuel filter. drain the filter or replace it. Fill the filter about 1/4 with methyl hydrate and top up with fuel. Then follow the steps above. You can also use an anti-gel additive if the fuel has gelled following the same steps. Gelling occurs when fuel meant to be used in warm weather is used or left in during cold weather. If you try to use ether (which is fine I use it all the time) to fire it up do not use too much (you can tell by the sound, best is to spray while someone else is cranking over the engine so it gets sucked in with the airstream) make sure whether or not it has glow plugs or an intake heater. If it does disconnect the wire from the glow plugs or heater, I have seen people blow the intake manifold off by not disabling the heater. Some have an electric shut off solinoid that you may need to check out and in some engines simply removing this solenoid will allow the engine to run. If it still will not run you may need to look further such as a pickup line sucking air or faulty pump. Some engines use two pumps. One is a pickup pump which draws fuel from the tank and delivers it to the injection pump and can be mounted independently. Some are mechanical and look like the old lever type pumps off a gas engine, some are gear pumps and some are built into or onto the injection pump. -
Whoa missed this one sorry Ray. Hope you had a very Happy Birthday.

Looks to me like you are going to have to put a trailer hitch on that old scoot of yours.......Since there probably is no more room for stickers on the old girl, your going to have to tow one of them rolling bill board's behind you to put all the Canadian stickers on.

I always soak puncture wounds in warm salt water, works wonders. I have lost track of all the slivers I had in a my life time. the worst came from swinging a sledge hammer. A piece about 1/4 inch thick and 1 1/2 inches long split away from the handle and drove clean into the palm of my hand as I slide my hand up the handle on the up swing. The Doctor that removed it followed up by using a syringe to force hydrogen Peroxide into the wound. My hand puffed up like a balloon after which he squeezed it all out. 24 hrs later my hand was badly infected and so I had to see my family Dr who asked my why I went to a butcher instead of the hospital. WOW hard to believe a simple sliver could generate so much to discuss. This thread alone may just get us through the winter.

Like Marcarl and Rieny been there a few times. But if you've never been, you got to go at least once for sure. Sadly even though there are 3 this year none are during the warmer months.

Not to mention If a crook goes for the purse and gets away with it he has one purse. If he goes for the gun and gets away with it he can have many purses - plus the gun, which is probably worth more than what most have in their purse.

Sure go ahead and blame us poor Canucks just because we leave the doors open. But let me tell you yanks something and then we will see who is smarter. For generations parents in Canada have yelled at us for leaving the door open. The most common comment would go something like this "where were you born, in a barn are trying to heat the whole darn neighborhood ?" Well let me tell you guys our generation finally got smart and said "why not?" We decided whats wrong with heating the whole darn neighborhood? We in our superior wisdom came to the conclusion if we all left our doors open and heated the whole darn neighborhood none of us would ever have to shovel snow.

Agreed though for simplicity I just go 70 inch/lbs. Also snug them up a little at a time lightly by hand in a staggered criss-cross pattern to pull everything down evenly until the bolts bottom out 1st. then go to 20 in/lbs, 50 in/lbs and finally 70 in/lbs following the staggered criss cross pattern. Finally as a safety check just go over them again at 70 in/lbs in a circular pattern to ensure you got them all.

I finally got an email from Abdul last night and though He appreciates our concerns, prayer and moral support, Him and Shah prefer to keep things low key and not to make too much fuss over them, preferring at this time to somewhat keep this more or less a private and personal matter while they try to get through this. Once again he sends his regards to all and does very much appreciate our concerns.

From what I have been told Jonas does all the hugs on Greta's behalf.....But apparently I will be getting a special hug directly from Greta herself.

Since today here in Ontario as well as a few other provinces was family day, I emailed Abdul early this morning to see how all was going but as of yet have not received a reply. The last update I received from Abdul was Feb 3rd and at that time Shah was still under medical care. The last time I spoke with Abdul he and Shah were deeply moved with the number of people that responded to my request on their behalf and wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and moral support,(something I should have posted awhile back and for that I apologize).
