A couple days ago I PM'd Freebird and inquired about adding another check box in our profile. the Check box is for Mechanical Assistance. He has gone ahead and added this, so if you are willing and able to offer Mechanical Assistance to members in need please update your profile by placing a check mark in the box beside Mechanical Assistance.

2016 VentureRider International Rally Discussion
saddlebum replied to Freebird's topic in Watering Hole
I have attended the past 4 internationals and thoroughly enjoyed each one. Alabama was a three day ride for me, a scenic ride through the Appalachians accompanied by Jaceesfolly which I will never forget. Galena a two day ride with some fantastic scenic rides and then the long ride home with Marcarl and Marca as well as trader taking the high road home. St Charles a 2 day ride and WNY what can I say 2-1/2 hrs I enjoyed the ride to and from each one and enjoyed meeting members I would not normally have met if I only went to local regionals. I have enjoyed the rides organized by the planners which resulted in seeing places I would normally not have seen or even thought to look for. Granted there have been glitches on some of the rides but somehow the members have managed to get it together and at the end of the day we all ended up have a good time. I personally don't feel that the draws and/or raffles are a necessity as I go for the gathering of members near and far and the scenic points of interest local to the areas were the rally's are held. I think for this reason it would be a sad thing to stop the rally,s. My only negative comment would be that it is a shame that when sites are selected there is not a closer proximity between hotels and camp grounds -
Just read this and glad to hear she is OK. The Helmet loss is meaningless. It did its job and is replaceable. This has been common knowledge for as long as I can remember. The adhesive and or solvent in paints can compromise the integrity of the material used to make the helmet. As a matter of fact I remember warning labels as far back as the sixty,s on the helmets stating explicit not to paint or attach stickers to the helmet. Just not sure if it still applies given the improvement in materials of recent years. Me too. Bad enough on the public roads but you would think they would use proper asphalt or even cold patch to make repairs on a track.

Driver backrest. Who's got one? What do you think of it?

I think it would be a good idea if you tend to get a sore back while riding. I never get a sore back on long multi-day trips as I have a sea-line duffel bag strapped to my seat behind me which doubles as a back rest. But on day trips were I have nothing my back tends to get a bit sore. -
So that explains why you were so happy I could not make it. Given all the hugs and attention Tippy gave me in Alabama You were afraid you would be left out If I was there. However you need not have worried so, as both Tippy and Puc got enough affection to go around ten fold. Hey Puc sorry I was unable to make it would have been great to see both of you again. Just you make sure you keep that Marcarl in line. What am a saying. Tippy make sure Carl and Puc behave themselves

I did not know your wife was so Famous. Even has River named after her. While traveling I-69 to St Charles I crossed a bridge going over a small River. The Name was TIPPY RIVER.

I tied the Avons. great ride and nice on wet roads but above 100KM/H i would get a rear end waggle and apperantly I was not the only one with this issue on a 1st gen (I have not heard of this occurring on any 2nd gens). My avons developed sidewall cracking and the dealer swapped for a set of dunlop E2 which were great. I later replaced with E3 and so far love them. some complain they are noisy but I have not experienced that. What I have experienced is great ride and excellent grip in hard cornering or wet roads. They do take a little longer to scrub in but once they are scrubbed in they have good road bite.

A few here on the site have had some serious mishaps with the Metzlers and yet I also know of some who have done very well with them so I guess you can take that for what it's worth. Personally I have been very happy with my Dunlap E3 and before that Dunlap e2

Choke(or stuck open enrichment valve) could do it. I remember years back when manual chokes on cars were common, we had a lady customer bring us her car for a running issue. It would always run good cold but sputter when it got hot. We could never figure it out until one day my boss suggested she leave the car with us and so I was elected to go home with her and return with the car. As she gets in the car she pulls out the choke and hangs her purse on it. I asked her if she did that all the time. Turns out she did. I left it at that until the car started to sputter and as she said there you see what it does I took her purse off the choke pushed it in and the car to her total amazement ran like a dream - go figure

As mentioned in an earlier post My wife grew up an hour from there and her family still lives there. Well aware of those horrid temps and humidity and remember well sitting in front of the window air conditioner and not moving from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Thankfully after 38 years of Marriage and frequent visits I have gotten somewhat used to it.

It may sound a little like something Captian obvious may say but you would be amazed at the number of people who in their excitment forget one or all three of those.

Huh Don I thinks its still going to be 4 hours butt riding time just that the clock is going to turn back one hour for us. Just say'n

I did book same motel in Gas city. The Marion thing was a typo

The Ontario group pretty much has decided on 69 from Sarnia right to Gas city, its a straight forward and clean run for us. If you are coming across 24 you could probably hook up with us in either Gas City or at Denny's by exit 66 off The I70 Sunday morning.

I would be good with that as well.

I have campsite 4 booked and the plan before Dave's crash was to share it with Dave. However as you know Dave is a maybe at this point but since I initially booked the site with just me in mind I agreed to stick to my agreement with Dave just in case he suddenly was able to make it after all. At least this way if it came down to a last minute decision he would at least have a spot held for him making it one less thing for him to be concerned with since he has a lot on his plate right now.
