UK to ban internal combustion engine motorcycles
saddlebum replied to Freebird's topic in Watering Hole
That's right. They know exactly who they are feeding the wealth to and who is going to add to those existing below the poverty line and they just do not care. On top of that though the vehicles themselves are so called pollution free. How pollution free are the scenes behind the electric car that we are unaware. Example mining of the metals and materials need to produce the cars such as the highly environmental destructive mining of lithium, increased mining of copper for wire and cabling etc. most of which I am sure will be destructive open pit mining and the production of electricity which would have to be ramped up and would all the means for doing this be environmentally friendly? I do not profess to know all the answers if any but I sure am full of scary questions. -
Based on the schematic below that brown wire is ignition power to the R/R. This would definitely need to be connected. The other one may have been an aftermarket and not have needed the brown because it was what we refer to as self exiting it would sense a voltage output from the stator to turn itself on were the one with the brown wire would require input from the ignition switch to turn itself on. https://www.venturerider.org/wiring/90-93 Yamaha Venture DA Simplified Circuit Diagram Rev C.pdf As far as the cracked magnets in the flywheel are concerned I would replace it the chipped ones may not present much of a problem but the cracked one most likely will in time if it hasn't already. So while you have it apart replace it. Replace the stainless cover and If you can find an oil/stator cooling kit for it get one. It may save your stator from early failure specially if you have added extra lights etc. to the bike. The part number for the kit if you can still find it is 90891-30014 stator coil oil cooling kit . the kit includes items 8,9and 15 from the drawing below and the flange bolt part number 90105-12374-00 not shown. this bolt has a hole in it were item 15 resides.

I have seen a battery sit at 11 volts and still crank an engine over. It has more to do with the overall state of the battery. , By this I mean the ability of the battery to maintain and hold its voltage when you apply a load to it. For example a battery is at 11 volts you turn on the high beams and it barely drops in voltage is probably still a good battery and likely just needs to be charged up. On the other hand, a battery could be sitting at 12.5 volts and when you turn the high beam on the voltage drastically drops. This is a sign the battery is probably bad. In these two scenarios the 1st battery is still good and may even still crank an engine over, the voltage barely dropping a volt or two. Were the second battery is defective and may drop as low as half its resting voltage in trying to crank over the engine. So Don,t just assume that because the battery's resting voltage is low that it is bad. Recharge the battery and load test it before condemning it.

I have never been too concerned with tiny oil leaks as long as they are not wet dripping leaks. What we refer to as oil sweating or class 1 leak isn,t worth chasing, neither is a class 2 or wet but not dripping. I might think about fixing it, depending on were it is and how much work it will take to fix. A class 3 or dripping oil leak well that's a winter project. Unless it's so severe it is affecting my oil level which In most case's is unlikely.

If the exhaust is getting that hot 🔥 you may have a lean burn condition and/or a leaky exhaust valve. Leaky valve is easy to check by doing a cylinder leak down test. Valve adjustment, deteriorating valve or valve seat condition, or sticky valve can all be causes of a valve leakage. Also check your plugs colour and compare to a plug colour chart.

How come you guys get all the fun.

I agree, being educated is not always the same as being intelligent or having common sense. Our governments alone are one example that educated dummies do exist.

Sure regret being unable to be there. Really miss seeing all my VR friends. Hopefully next summer will be a better situatuation and I can be actively back on the road again. Wish you all of you the best. Nice pics BTW.

I once had a back fire so bad I felt the back of my car lift slightly and afterwards my exhaust sounded like wide open pipes. The backfire was so severe that it split my muffler wide open as well as lifting the back end. What happened was while driving on the highway a transport hit a massive puddle and my car caught the splash which killed the engine for a split second causing my exhaust to accumulate a fair amount of raw fuel. When the engine fired up the raw fuel mix in my exhaust ignited and went off like a stick of TNT.

@Freebird as someone who who who has had to deal with a major back injury for many years May I suggest before you embark on a ride that Eileen fit herself with a ridged back support belt of either leather or nylon such as used when weight lifting (not the flexible stretch support types ) she may find it helps a lot.

I did the same with all my kids including the girls and I taught them all how to drive stick.

I can pretty much do anything and properly done as well. Having said that though I can paint a vehicle, house painting is my downfall, specially when it comes to rolling. Guaranteed you hand my a roller and tray at some point I will most definitely step in the tray or hit the ceiling several times with the roller.

I found the best cure for bad sounding speakers is to simply leave the sound system turned off.

Nice use of space 👌 -
Sounds pretty typical of today's entitled generation, where many feel that everything should be just handed to them and have never been taught that if you want something you have to earn it. Far too many drivers licenses today are handed out far too easily these days to people who do not belong on the road. This John guy's job is to make sure a new drivers is not a hazard to oneself as well as others on the road. He also did not need to show the new driver anything, His job is to pass or fail not to teach so this student actually got a bonus but does not realize it.

Then there is the environmental impact as well as human rights failures behind the electric car that seems to be little mentioned. Here is an interesting article on that note. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/02/climate/electric-vehicles-environment.html I am not saying I am against electric vehicles. I am just saying we need to see all the facts, not just the ones that are appealing. Its like free range chicken, you need to see what criteria defines the difference between free range and non-free range you might be disappointingly surprised or not. -
Trust me you ever try these you will never go back to rope type or any other again the supply that supplied my shop had 250 in the side wall of his front tire by the time he wore out the tire. Not something I would recommend but he did prove a point, https://products.techtirerepairs.com/product/permacure-repair-bx-50/

I carry a .50-cal poly ammo box fairly well equipped with a good complimentary set of tools including test light and compact voltmeter, a spool of wire, electrical tape, magic tape (as it is re-marketed today. Old time electricians would remember it as splicing compound). Home made light weight booster cables with small clamps to make them more bike friendly. Recently included a small booster pack. Some low stretch multi-braid rope. some paracord. Nylon tarp an assotment of zip ties. A permacure tire plug kit (permacure plugs are the only plugs I trust when unable to properly patch a tire. I have used hundreds of them over the last 30 years on every type of tire from motorcycle to transport and if I have to trust a plug for a road side repair they be the ones). A small 12v air compressor. First aid kit in a waterproof package such as can be purchased from wilderness outfitters supply stores. Rain gear. a small dry sack containing a change of clothes and a campers towel.
