You are right about the Pyle. I bought an amplifier off Ebay that is small and fits right in the faring. But it's a Pyle of s*** also. In fact I think the volume was lower with the amp installed, more like a big resister. Cheap though, $25. Jerry
  2. Seems like the Dunlop 404's have been soft for some time maybe they do that for traction on the new bikes. They do wear fast but they stick to the road also. I have E3 on the back now and it appears it may go to 15 or 18,000 miles before I have to change it. It is a harder compound though but still sticks pretty good. Amazing what a new set of tires of any brand will do for a bike. Jerry
  3. Brad, I know you had some kind of problem with the stator you bought from them and I don't know all details but I have bought from these folks for years and they have been good to me and make a good heavy duty product. One of the other people, JC Whitney or Dennis Kirk or one of those actually use the stator from these guys. My nephew bought one from someone else and it was made of lighter materials then the Electrosport. It's like everything else, tires, batteries, oil, everyone has an opinion. I would be interested in what happen with the stator you were having built though. Jerry
  4. Better count all your tools, sounds like you may have left something in there. :rotf: Jerry
  5. Now this is something I might be interested in. I have been thinking about this issue for some time and have talked to several mechanics about it. I actually was headed another direction. I wanted to link the front and the back and I think that is still possible. I seem to remember Rick doing this but having some sort of problem with it so I was just laying low to see how it turned out. But one of the big issues with the brakes is you have way to much rear brake as you eluted to. Keep us posted, and I looking forward to the tech write up. Jerry
  6. Don, Very interesting, I'm probably not going to do the conversion but what you have said is about what I expected also. It's interesting that the 1st gen runs so high of an RPM for a given speed but it really doesn't seem like it when you are riding. I have a feeling the sound of the exhaust has a lot to do with that. As you know I run the HD pipes and after you had posted you were going to do this I did some highway riding in 4th gear and I got to tell you I thought the bike was going to blow up. Again a lot of it is the pipes. As far as the gas mileage, I bet you don't lose much riding 1 up and I would think the mileage might even be better 2 up and pulling the trailer. The added torque should help a bunch 2 up and pulling the trailer. I had a pickup several years ago with a manual overdrive and I drove it 400 miles one direction in overdrive and then drove it back in 4th gear, no difference in gas mileage. Keep us posted. Jerry
  7. Yep, they are all off like that. 6 to 7 percent at 70 MPH. Dealers won't do anything, most brands of bikes are also off. Don't know what the problem is. There is a way to correct it but it cost money. Some have it but I don't pay any attention to it, it reads fast anyway. Don the Freebird has the thing to correct the speed on his bike. I think it's called the heeler or something like that. Jerry
  8. I agree completely. I think each bike for whatever reason has some degree of whine/noise in the trany/clutch area. For quite a while I just chalked it up to people being to particular about noise. But a bike pulled up along side me on a ride and man was that thing loud, not sure what the problem was but it was loud. My bike sounds like the old GMC you talked about at certain speeds. It also has a bit of chirp at 65 MPH in 5th but I just ignore it. I like the bike so much I am willing to overlook some short comings. But they should have had it fixed by now. Seems like all bikes have some sort of problems for whatever reason. When you think the noise is so bad you can't stand it find yourself a 49 HD to ride for a few miles. The RSV will seem like a Caddy. Jerry
  9. Glad to hear everything is okay. Sometimes we make to much out of a simple problem but when you ask for help on this forum you are definitely going to get a lot of opinions. Good luck and like you said, keep an eye on it. Maybe see you for the ride in at the Quad Cities...... Jerry
  10. Yeah, I thought about that. I know the tank is pretty low in those bikes but something has gone wrong for the gas to get in the crankcase. I just don't know and I have never heard of this problem with these bikes before. It will be interesting to find out what the problem is when he gets it fixed, that's for sure. Jerry Other than the protrusion up by the filler cap, the tank is below the level of the carbs methinks, so that even if the pump was letting fuel by when not running, it wouldn't run uphill into the carbs. Jeremy
  11. I agree with everything you said BUT his crankcase is full of gas and the only way I can think of for it to get in there is through the Carb. Again, if the float is stuck open it will let the gas pump right through BUT something has to be wrong in the electrical circuit to let the pump run with the key off. OR the valve is not shutting the gas off and it is running through. I'm not a 100 percent sure of what I am saying but that's why I said it takes two problems for this to happen. Wish I was closer so I could help, Jerry
  12. Sometimes you have to wiggle the steering wheel also but you've probably already tried that. Jerry
  13. Sounds like you may have a couple of problems. Keeping in mind I now have an RSV. Keep in mind I am a carpenter. Gas will run out the overflow tube if you have a float sticking. BUT mine only did that with the key on making the pump pump. We use to shut off the petcocks to stop the gas from doing exactly what has happen to your bike BUT that bike has a vacuum shut off petcock. My opinion there is one thing for sure, you have a float stuck. Maybe for some odd reason the fuel pump is not shutting off with the key. Good Luck, Jerry
  14. Fuse it! I don't think the Ipod can handle all the power his battery has in it. A lot of the Ham Radio guys I know fuse both wires, the hot and the ground, one in each of course. Jerry
  15. I'm thinking maybe you raised the "rev limiter" to much and the exhaust just can't get through the system fast enough and blew a hole in the pipe. Jerry
  16. Question number one. Yes it is failing. Number two. It can be ridden but you must be careful, when mine failed I rode it about 10 miles to the dealer and it was a bouncing ball type ride. And it bottomed out several times. I don't think I would ride it 2 up. Number three. Yes, warranty issue. Supposedly you will get an upgraded shock. They have changed the design and the newer one is suppose to be better and last longer. Good Luck, Jerry
  17. I have almost always run the Elite II's on the touring bikes and had very good results. Never had a blow out or anything I could blame on the tires. Now because of a mix up with my dealer I ended up with a set of 404's. Pretty nice tires, like Dragon Rider said they are a soft tire, I only got about 8 or 9000 on the rear tire but the front is still on the bike and has 23,000 miles on it. Still in pretty good shape but I'm going on a 4,000 plus trip in August and I will definitely have a new Elite II on the front. I replaced the rear tire with the Elite III and so far it's been a good tire. It is a harder compound than the II but so far so good. I understand the Elite II's are being fazed out. I ordered a Elite II from SWmoto recently and they sent me a Elite III. Hope my rambling helps. Jerry
  18. Piece of cake man. You can do it. Jerry
  19. The voltage will get low enough to cause the engine to quit but not with the stator working properly. Even at a real low idle I don't think that can happen. Are you able to start the bike after it quits running without jump starting it? If you can then it's probably just an idle issue. These things idle pretty fast and if you have junk in the carbs they may just be shutting down from the dirt etc. Jerry
  20. Yeah, what they said, have mixed tires brands for years without any problem. Jerry
  21. Don't let ECK anywhere near the bags. I had one stuck at Eureka Springs last year and he kept wanting to use a 4 inch grinder on it. Man thinks he can do anything with that grinder. Make sure all the screws, nuts etc are tight around the lock and like Don said use some nice White Grease on it. Jerry
  22. When you decide what you are going to do we need to see the pictures. You could email Marshal direct, he's on our list here. Think his user name is hugbare or something like that. Jerry
  23. I on the other hand don't care for the fiberglass look, guess that's why they make so many different ones. I actually wish the CB antenna on the second gens was base loaded so that I only had two wires sticking up. Evidently there are some base loaded CB antenna for bikes around because I notice the Harley bikes have some antenna that are just wires sticking up and painted black. Jerry
  24. Think we just went through this recently although I didn't keep up with the thread. If you are asking if you can use a 2' CB antenna for CB and am/fm, the answer is yes. But you need a duplexer (not a splitter) If you want to use two different antennas you can do that also and in both cases you need the duplexer. Without the duplexer when you transmit on the CB you will over load the front end of the am/fm radio and maybe case damage. Also the smaller CB antenna is not as efficient as a taller antenna. Jerry
  25. Eck, I've seen a lot of talk about the charging systems on the RSV but some people push it to the so called max and get away with it. I think a lot of the reason is the guys use the heated vests gloves etc in the winter so the oil don't get as hot during the cold weather. What do I know? I,m just a nail bender. Jerry
